Can a Lead Knife Split a Bullet? -Material Science Knives

- It occurred to me that I didn't fully understand why some metals are stronger than others. So in this video I wanted to find out, and then test it in a more fun way than anything strictly scientific. I cast knives out of two metals; Aluminum, and Lead, forged one out of steel, and printed one out of plastic. My goal was to learn why their strengths varied so much, and see if they can split a bullet.
This takes "bringing a knife to a gun fight" to a new level

Hey integza plz make petrol engine with fridge compressor
:D
Old mythbusters :D
Integza!!!! Notice me :D
Shoutout to the Demolitia, and awesome you have a nesting pair of red shoulder hawks nearby.
I smell a Chronos purchase in your future. Another great video!
(about lead split) Are you sure that was a bullet split? Maybe the bullet was deflected to one side, but parts of the knife itself got thrown to the other side.
I thought the same. Being lead i presume it would also leave a dark mark in the target?
I must admit, the pentagon joke caught me off guard
Not only did I not see it coming, I’ve never seen a similar joke before haha
Generic engagement comment. Yet another great video with amazing production quality! It's so rare for me to genuinely get a chuckle while being presented something like this...let alone multiple chuckles!
Keep up the awesome work!
Regular Hawk’s nest updates please
Ah yes, the classic "San Basilio" trick: ruclips.net/video/mraK-zRfWL0/видео.html
bro your channel is fantastic! hope you succeeded
you could of safly sharpened the lead by hammering the edge thin
i wish more people are like you
Surprised how well the aluminum held up, tbh. Thought it'd be more brittle!
Sciencish needs one of those "Kentucky Ballistics" shirts!
If the parents are famous domestic terrorists-lovers Bonnie and Clyde, you gotta name the chicks after famous domestic terrorists-siblings: Like and Leia!
LUKE!!!! LOLOLOL
How about:
Baby Face (Nelson) and Pretty Boy (Floyd)
Dillinger and Capone
Or good 'ol Smith and Wesson
Might be my favorite video yet! Gotta take me shooting with you next time
This was surprisingly good revision for my upcoming materials science exam! Great video as usual
10:03 hey handsome ! you can mispronounce Aluminium but you can't misspell it , it oughta be illegal on youtube science channels
Integza and
Integzo for the names 😂 Great video, thanks to Integza, I almost missed it !
Doing the obligatory "thousand things". Engagement.
one of the two chic should be called Bianca. BTW do you have a patreon? let me offer you a coffe xD
I assume you didn't do anything with tempering the edges of the knives?
I would call these birds 30-30lead and steeluminium
why arent you using light seconds per hour to measure bullet speed?
You are not an American science channel unless you do at least one video with guns.
Dude your videos are awesome!! Keep up the awesome work!!!
you can definitely buy ready made steel knives ;-)
Awesome video.
you need high speed camera and show slow motion
Chick Names... "George & Gracie"
From the comedic duo of George Burns & Gracie Allen, 2 of Vaudeville's best :-)
What about an aluminum bullet vs a aluminum knife?
all Imma say is...I'm here at 20K subs :)
man should make a whole video about the hawks 😂
I Gotta suggest Tobias (Animorphs) and Isabeau (Ladyhawke) for chick names.
you need more subscribers your content is awesome
Typically people split .45 because it's slow, wide, and blunt. It gives a lot better "shot." I love the quips and puns too! Lastly, you can quench harden lead. It's not a major change but it's there.
name suggestons: joe and candice
You really need a high speed camera! 😄
Could you please add metric measurements next time.
Foot pounds is confusing even to most Americans.

Small pro tip for the future: instead of melting soda cans to get the aluminium, I recommend going to a scrap yard and see if you can get some cast aluminum junk, broken engine parts are often available.
I don't remember the chemistry but, in short, the alloy used for the cans loses a lot of its strength when remelted while the casting alloys don't.
There also exists an alloy of lead which I only know as "black lead", It's pretty much only used for slugs and it's hard enough to not deform on impact (usually)
How about Jeffrey and Jill for the chicks? (After Jeffrey and Jill Erickson)
I hate the units you use.
You asked me for it at the end.
Lead knife:
Damage 3
Poison 1
Shss, shush! The gov. Will take away all our toxic imports from ccp, and we would have no excuse for all our illnesses! Make all our own nontoxic tools and grow all our own healthy food? We would have to be responsible for our own density, err destiny!!! Hoho!
If you didn’t heat treat the steel, then that wasn’t a knife 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
coment
love the video
hate the unit
love the channel
hate the low fps
Seriously love the awesome work that you do, those videos are probably a lot of work on top of the naration, I would have loved to see those shots in high fps footage, but I also want to be a millionair that can afford it so yeah not going to blame you for not spending several G's on a highspeed footage... just yet ;)
keep it up!
Tony and Ethan, the hawk brothers. Also, hardened steel would be more brittle and less malleable, hitting it with high velocities could break it instead of bend it. I saw that knife fly in your direction, now I know why I've only ever seen it done with an axe.
Nice content!!! Continue like this and you will have million subscribers with year or so.... you got my 👍
How does this guy not have way more subscribers! I love your content and video style! Keep up the amazing work!
Right on for angling your metal targets and shooting from a distance. Some poor guy a while back decided to shoot a 50 BMG into a steel target at 4 feet and he got a good chunk of the grain embedded in his forehead. Thank you for practicing safety so we can keep watching you 👍
Commenting to boost engagement.
Love your stuff!
"Roughly hammer it into shape, and then file the rest away"... call it "grind" instead and you may be Alex Steele after all!
If the hawks are bonnie and Clyde then the chicks should be Tommy and gunner. Also hardened steel would have made a huge difference.
Plastic is the weakest metal. Got it!
Great video and channel. Unfortunately it seems like this video pissed off the algorithm.
Dude your vids are the best
This is a great video, thank you for all the hard work you put in to making it. Keep making these videos man you are doing a great job.
-how old are you ? -Sciencish guy: somewhere between 14-40
Demolitia represent!
EOOOOOOO
Novel idea! My boy split an old rod bayonet with a shotgun slug. Shocked he was!
i love your videos since today, cant stop watching them , i wish i could be thAT mart one day, also i love the short distraction clip it really brought interest lol
come on, guy
*Dyna and Tylo*
Bobby and Klein
I watched it again about four times you definitely split it with a plastic knife
You need to get a Chronos camera! ^^
finally, youtube recommends a good channel that i like
5th
Nicely done! Interesting video and educational in a few areas too.
The quality and production value is amazing! You are going places!!
You should rent a super slow mo camera so you can see if you split it better
What a HUNK
🥵🔥🔥🔥
Next video: Can you break a rock with a rock?
You got yourself a new subscriber. Great content
This is a great video, and I think it’ll be so cool if it’s in slow motion
I like the name Bonnie and Clyde for the Hawks
very interesting but you do need a slowmo camera
What kind of pot did you melt the aluminum in?
Just a steel pot!
Nice! The b-roll in this video was top notch. And the idea was pretty cool too!
Did you know you can buy steel knives?
Woman:why man die faster than us
Man:
Great stuff! But I do hope you return to rocketry soon!
amazing video, very professionally filmed and presented
I like this guy! Great work!
Tuco and Tico (the little chicks)
Car batteries are the easiest source for lead
Wow! Your castings turned out great! :)
Have you seen any of the research into those crazy 3D printed lattice structures that are bulletproof? Just printed with regular FDM printing. Pretty neat stuff.
My suggestion for names are Romulus and Remus.
yo this channel is epic 100
great content, will be binging
“Medium sized ant”
Smart, good-looking, and you're good with guns! You, and this channel have a lot of potential going forward. Good luck!
Underrated channel
Great content! Keep it up
Hardened steel knife would absolutely do a much better job with the .30-30...
This is so coooool
your stuff is so cool >_
you are so cute
Brah
This video should be made in collaboration with Slow-Mo guys :)
you have to make your videos more recognizable so I don't miss your videos in my feed ;)
You should’ve just taped a led weight to the back of the plastic knife…🤦♂️
