love the way you sort out whatever problems come your way steve! great old machines you keep going.
Hi Gerald thank you mate. It’s what you have to do when playing with old worn out stuff
Gday Steve, good to see the lathe make an appearance but I can’t workout why the shaft broke there, top job mate
Hi Matty. I wanted it to be an-interference fit but it was slightly loose. Still it works great. Yes mate the lathe made an appearance. I’m not an expert on it but certainly get myself out of trouble with it. Best money I’ve ever spent. Sometimes it’s a bit small though so I use the one at work. It’s beyond me how a straight shaft like that would break mate
Wonder if the column could have been loose at some point, nice way to make it work again
Hey Steve I've a skidder so same steering but rotary valve is behind dash, so a very short shaft, only one ram on the steering and that pivot for the articulation is well worn, when driving at anything over working speed there is quite knock to the steering wheel as you're catching play to drive straight
First time i've heard you a bit despondent when you saw that broken shaft, but you pulled it around great and got a good mix of content. Thanks for it.
Hi Paul yeah because in my mind it was going to be a different problem, but anyway we got around it mate
Brilliant repair mate . Good job as always re-engineering old equipment . You made your little guy happy letting him come along . Scott 🌵
Thank you for the Super Thanks Scott. It was very much appreciated mate. Yes he likes coming and playing with the machines but my older son isn’t as interested.
@@stevesplacedownunder The older son may come round in time, no rush . I hope the super helps with the welders helmet . 🌵
@zonie70 it most certainly will help mate thanks again
Great to see it going again. Have a good week. Marc
Hi Marc thank you mate. All the best
Amazing self control when you discovered the broken shaft ... "oh dear" was the last thing I expected 🤣 another good video 👍
It may have been slightly edited 😂😂. Thanks Jimmy as always mate
Another great repair video. That is a strange location to break and a clever repair solution. Maybe it was abused by its previous owners. Have a good day!
Hi Mike. Yes I guess over the years fatigue eventually got it mate. There would be some minimal amount of movement that added up over the years
I drove an Albion Tipper once and that was one time to many.
Live in the uk . Love your videos . Thankyou both for the effort.
Hi Rich. Thanks for watching from over there mate and for your appreciation
Hi Steve, I'm not sure what I was more impressed by, you not swearing when you saw the damage or the mint repair you've done.😆
Keep yer chin up🍻👍🏻
Editing is a good thing mate🤣🤣. Yeah I was happy enough with the repair to thanks, it should be fine now, for a while anyway. Has done a few loads since and still spot on
Thanks!
OH Golly Gosh, what a ripper vid Steve. Thank you cobber. Loving watching all your work mate.🤠
Thank you Daryl. I’m glad you enjoyed it mate. It keeps me going the positive comments from blokes like you. All the best mate.
@@stevesplacedownunder No probs cobber.🤠
Nice field fix Steve. Any misalignment at the top of the column will fatigue the shaft. If the cab moves or flexes that will also do it. As others have said some sort of uj or flex joint would probably help a lot. The tube sleeve might allow more flex anyway. Ok take care, Mart in England.
Hi Mart. Yes mate that’s right but the box is mounted to the bottom of the cab so it all moves together, unless the bad rust that is in the cab is letting the dash section move separately to the floor. It’s all it can be really. I thought of welding one end then drilling and pinning the other so it moves a bit but then figured that it took that long to break, so it will do a lot more work before it breaks again, hopefully. All the best mate
Just when you hope it’s an easy fix it turns into a little more. Fingers crossed she’s back to full operating mode.
Yes mate that’s right. I was thinking different until I actually pulled it apart to see how it was
Good repair with the sleeve. After I get my skid loader running I’ll have to do a steering column repair video on my Hough loader.
Got a 68 payloger
Thank you Geoffrey. I will be waiting for those episodes mate. I’m enjoying the skid steer series
Good loader John
@@stevesplacedownunder hey Steve payloger is a skider but international made a loader they called it a payloader, nice video mate
Sorry mate I read it wrong. Yes that’s right. Also did a dump truck called a PayHauler. I worked on a sight that ran them. They had v16 Detroit’s in them. I think from memory they had dual wheels on the steer as well as the rear drive axle. I remember something unique like that about them
Hi Steve recon with the work it's done and future work that was a nice cheap fix mate well done 👍
Hi Nick, yes mate it’s done a lot of work over the years I’m sure. She’s worn out but still good to keep it going. Good machine to have. Thanks Nick
collar and 2 bolts on the steering shaft
Hey Steve nice bush repair on the steering shaft ,the Clark is that Michigan when i was an Apprentice back in 74 the Government department i worked for had a number of Michigan 45B articulated loaders they had 6354 perks in them and full air brakes like a Truck looked identical to your Clark Loader have you come across them although i guess your a bit young im showing my age Lol,they were a good machine though,i remember the operators prefered them to the Case loaders ,just a bit of trivia for you .
Cheers kym
Adelaide
Hi Kym. Thanks mate I was happy enough with it too. I know the ones you mean mate through researching stuff for the 35b that this one is, but never seen one for real. I can imagine they were a great machine back then, even as a worn out one like this is, it’s still good to use. Case were a good loader too. The property next door had a w14 and was a great old loader, until the bushfires in 2001 got it. We couldn’t get it out in time. The only thing we saved is the 6911 Zetor that I do the slashing with at my place. I appreciate the trivia comments, it’s how is younger blokes learn about the old stuff. All the best Kym.
Great one Steve! nice sleeve and weld fix for the steering shaft in the Clark. Sometimes gettin the shaft can be a good thing...8^) It could be that the shaft has had a small micro crack from day one and has just developed a fatigue failure from hundreds of thousands of left / right turning load cycles. Looked like Zack was having fun hanging out with Dad. Looked like nice weather there, in the video. Today it was 12 deg C here and sunny, heck of a lot better than 2-4 deg C and rain/snow we had the last two weeks. Snowed like crazy on Thursday. Won't be long til we get warmer days. Cheers Steve.
Hi Jeff. Yeah it could be a number of things I guess. It’s original by the looks and as you say would have done a lot of left and right turns. I figured it took this many years to break so I will just repair it back to solid and see what happens. We just had 220 mm (near 9 inches) of rain over the weekend. All good though with no damage.
@@stevesplacedownunder 👍
Howdy n awesome
Thank you mate
Had one that broke cause of the cab vibration
I’d say that is what happened here mate. Cab has a lot of rust too do probably the top half moves more than the floor where it’s mounted
mate a flex coupling may be a good idea
Yes mate it would be but it took this many years to break and not something I use all the time. I just wanted an easy fix to finish the job. If it breaks again soon I will look into a coupling of some sort
Hope get it sorted try get another spur my red cat nitro fix battery on and pull starter on koyosho or swap over engine one on
Well done mate great stuff Alex
Got BOC inverter welder be buggerd with out it got Transarc tradesman In shed ain't used it since run good hot 10g on it not a problem loves 12 g BLOODY OATH
They a great thing Ron. Brilliant to use compared to those old ones
Be great to see @MartyT with you
It would be yes. He has a great channel. He’s a lot bigger than me though
@@stevesplacedownunder both humble gents shame he’s so far
@benwinstanley101 it is mate yes. A few people have mentioned the same thing. I wish I could get subs and views like him
@@stevesplacedownunder took him a while chief I was with him from the start just keep on Steve the views will come 🤞👍👊✌️
@benwinstanley101 I hope your right mate. It would be great
🙂
Steve can you not make the injector line from brake line ??
I had another set of lines off a Perkins which I just bent one to suit mate. I fixed it directly after loading that truck
🇨🇦🤓🤟
Hi Gary
Forgive me for reaching into Paranoia Steve, but without help both of these issues occurring simultaneously, both of which are oddities, doesn't make sense. Maybe you've got some weird bastard hanging around your place who thinks you shouldn't like this stuff. Technical Sabotage or simultaneous and otherwise random minority failures?
Hi John it’s okay mate. The steering was wear and tear I’d imagine mate but the injector line baffles me a bit. Especially when it was running fine when turned off. Maybe when it cooled down it cracked but can’t be sure
COOL , Content . this reminds me when i was fixing things is OZ ,
just get it working NOW !! thank You
Hi Chris thank you mate, I’m glad you enjoyed it
