All I want is Jack Black as Blackjack, I don't care about anything else
Finally, someone here who speaks English. :P
I second this
@@august1837 Like, it's funny from a meta perspective, but would also work really well.
i thought black jack was a girl it’d still be funny tho
@@jairia3350 Funny backstory behind that... basically, Rick forgot he made Blackjack a girl in SoM and changed it for the books after that.
Imagine making the first harry potter without Voldemort, that's basically how I explain the PJ films to friends who haven't read the books.
It’s also more like reaching the stone and finding Snape
@@august1837 Not even Snape. It's like finding Draco Malfoy orchestrated the whole shebang.
@@sahaskuk And when Voldemort returns, Harry just fucking beats and kills him already
That's how I should tell everyone!

There are no Percy Jackson films. Just the Peter Johnson rip offs.
Especially in Ba Sing Sei.
Peter johnson and the thunder stealer
Peter Johnson and the ocean of bad people
@@ciandaly4065 I’m just glad they never ended up making Peter johnson and the big mans bad spell
Peter Johnson and The Giants Hex.
I love Mitchell Hope as Luke! Even in Descendants, he has moments where he is angry and dark, despite his normal demeanor
He’s definitely a great choice!!!
I know right! When I saw the video, I took one look at him and was like, “He’d better be cast as Luke or I’ma cry. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I IMAGINED HIM LIKE!”
I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t like him as Luke. Luke is honestly one of my favorite characters, and I feel like I wouldn’t want to link him to Descendants every time I looked at him. Similar to the most of the other younger characters, I feel like a more unknown actor for Luke would be best so that Rick can build his character incredibly as an individual like he deserves.
I don't know, Mitchel Hope just doesn't seem like a fit for the roll. But that's just me.
I'm still for Jace Norman as Luke, but mostly because he grew up on the books and would really love to star in the show
I've already felt that Percy could be as big as Harry Potter. Hopefully they do it justice.
If not Bigger
Personally, i've always liked the concept of percy jackson a little better. There's so much within greek mythology and the idea of modernizing it and adding original characters was always so interesting to me. It feels like a good balance between grounded and fantastical. Ive always loved that it's a camp.
@@agent1-085 I agree with everything you guys have said. It's not a knock on Potter. I just like Percy better.
@@agent1-085 I also honestly prefer Percy as a character. He's humble, kind, caring. Loyal to a fault. He doesn't act like he's more important than the other characters in the show. IN comparison Harry tends to act like a real prick throughout the books. He's arrogant in some parts, self centered in others, but overall lacks the same heroic traits Percy has. Never really liked his character.
Definitely
One slight issue with the Medusa cast: In the books, she is explicitly described as being a middle-aged Middle Eastern lady.
She had a middle Eastern accent, and she was covered up. I don’t remember her being described as middle aged. Maybe I’m just not remembering
@@august1837 Apparently it was actually a bit older even. I looked it up, it says that she was supposed to be an older Middle Eastern lady. That was supposed to be the excuse behind the cloth that hid the snake hair, not the fashion statement that Peter Johnson film went with.
this is a good point. also, i feel like Eva Green would be wasted in the role (not that she wouldn't be amazing) simply because Circe is an option for the next instalment.
Even more, it would open things up for a reprisal in a future Heroes of Olympus series (Medusa is specifically said to still be reforming during that series)
@@BobTheTesaurus she*
I'd go for Ayelet Zurer as Medusa.
'Who is best known for being Hawkeye's wife in Age of Ultron.' - Poor, poor Linda Cardellini
Velma!
Lindsay Wier!
Viggo Mortensens wife in Green Book is what first came to my mind.
way to downplay her career lol
Velma Dinkley.
I think it would be really cool if Rick Riordan made a cameo somehow, maybe as Annabeth's dad (I think he would nail that sort of nerdy dad type) or the security guard for Mount Olympus
Edit: Rick said he wasn't going to cameo, but it was still a cool idea :)
I would love that but he confirmed that he won't make a cameo in the show
I don’t think he’d be a good fit for her dad. He’s a bit too old now.
@@fashionablechangeling1988 Which sucks, cus he was actually my choice for Paul. As for Annabeth's dad, I invite you to consider Brendan Fraser.
@@michaeloconnor5904 I casted Luke Wilson as Paul, (If you haven't seen it, watch DC's Stargirl to see why he would be perfect) I haven't casted Frederick Chase yet but that's a good choice
@@fashionablechangeling1988 Luke Wilson... I can see that working. I've always thought of Paul as the level-headed character in the Jackson families.
Luke is one of those characters that they just can’t get wrong. He’s like Snape or Alfred (Michael Caine) not the main character, but the corner stone of what turns the show from good to great.
If this turns out *anything* like Artemis Fowl then I will cry
Ricks involved, I don’t think he’d stay if it started turning out like that. He didn’t stick around for the films cuz they were shit from the beginning.
Rick is involved. And if he despises the movies which is an okay movie taken on it's own and has a more resemblance than the Artemis Fowl movie, I think we're good.
Same
@Suravi Balaji it's on Disney+. It would probably be a good idea to watch it yourself and make up your own mind. Though based on what I've heard about it (haven't seen it yet), movie Artemis isn't the same as book Artemis.
What I love about Mark Sheppard is that these days when Dionysus is portrayed in pop culture he tends to be stock-typed as just a party boy, but if look into his mythology and origins he's got a lot of dark/crazy to him (see The Bacchae) which Sheppard can just bring without even trying. I know Seeker said he's prioritizing book portrayals over historical myths, which is wise, but if we can get a little bit of the greater mythos laced in then it's extra fun!
Book Dionysus definitely has that lurking under the surface. I wouldn't say any part of his personality resembles a fun-loving party boy in PJO, other than his taste for wine. He's apathetic and abrasive, and when the facade drops he's terrifying. Though I suppose he must have a softer side, given some of the actions he takes in the series.
@@bookswithike3256
Yeah, we especially got a glimpse of that in book 1 when Percy took a real deep look into his eyes.
Speaking of eyes, that's a big thing I hope they don't screw up in the TV series, since the eyes are one of the key points in a lot of characters, especially gods, descriptions.
My guy, mark sheppard is GENIUS.
I SCREAMED when I saw him pop up. He would play Mr. D so well.
100% AGREE
I also believe that Jensen Ackles is one of the prime candidates for Ares. I know everyone wants Tom Hardy and I can see why, but I feel like Jensen also has the acting capabilities to pull off the complexities of a character like Ares. I've seen him play characters like Dean Winchester, the Archangel Michael, and Jason Todd and master the complexities of each character.
He's in his element when he plays a character who is enraged and bloodthirsty but also has a sense of arrogance with the terrifying strength to back it up. He knows how to portray rash, unthinking rage, but he also knows how to depict that sort of calm, simmering rage that makes Ares really calculating and dangerous.
However, the thing that makes Jensen really stand out as the best actor to play the role is how he acts as a paternal figure. Even though Ares is a jackass for most of the time, he exudes an almost benevolent type of tough love or cares when it comes to his kids, which is more than what some of the other gods do for their kids.
He's a douchebag to everyone else, but he actually does give a crap about his kids. I'd honestly say that he is the third-best godly parent after Poseidon and Hades.
Also, Jensen has a really dry sense of humor in real life that he could adapt into his portrayal that would work well with the character.
Plus, Mark Sheppard and Jensen spent 7.5 years acting together on Supernatural. I don't remember if Ares and Dionysus ever had screen time together, but if so, it would be easy for them to develop that chemistry since they had years of experience working together.
@@struggleskywalker1025 we were discussing Mr. D but go off. I agree

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Medusa in the books, but suppose to be older, like 50-60s. I don’t think Eva Green is a good choice. Especially when she would be a perfect Circe in Sea of Monsters.

I think Helena Bonham Carter would be a good fit for medusa
P.S:It is my opinion
Mark Sheppard as Mr. D is a stroke of genius!!
Hello boys.
Jesus imagine being casted for a character who's only characteristic is UGLY.
Are you referring to Gabe or Medusa?
And smelly
I think it's more meant to be an ugly personality, and obv an overweight bald white guy works in these roles
well whoever took it would be self aware and secure enough to play it most likely.
Just randomly, I was in a Greek mythology comedy play once, and I played Hera. It was hilarious, and I actually loved playing a character so different from me.

Mark Shepard as Mr. D is so perfect 🤩
better castings than what they're going with imo
I liked the Chiron actor in SoM, he played it well. More closer to what book Chiron is than the first film
I like Mitchell Hope for Luke. Good choice.
My only complaint that he doesn't look like someone who is the most powerful guy in Camp Half-Blood for 300 years. Seems a bit too soft. But I like the concealed darkness and complex Luke that he would bring.
@@amu7379 wait but isnt that the point? That Luke seems like he's kind of not Powerful? I like him as Mitchell Hope cuz at the very begining you will literely think "what this guy can do?" And at first i agree he's not that good for the role becuz i dont think he can pull of Lukes dark side but he's a good actor and im sure he'll be good with it! 😊
@@wongdc3993 He is kind at first but my impression of him when reading is that he's the capable, tough type of kind since right from the get go he's "the best swordsman in 300 years" or something like that, while Mitchell Hope gives a bit of "shy" vibes in my opinion.
@@amu7379 yeah u got a point but you might never know he could pull it off 😊
I think so too. And even though, we haven't seen Bryan's fancast of Hermes yet, I feel like Jensen Ackles would be perfect for the role as Luke's father. I just feel like him being Hermes would get him a more prominent role throughout the show, which is something I would like to see. I love the idea of Jensen being this chill, down-to-earth, fun-loving god of mischief who just wants everyone to get along. And again, the fatherly aspect of both the actor and the character just fit really well. I think if I saw him as Hermes, I would honestly cry from the emotional depth of him trying to be a decent father to Luke, but also being more aloof and guilt-ridden. (Truth be told, that would legitimately give me Dean Winchester vibes.)
And even though, we rarely see Hermes get angry in the books besides The Last Olympian, I think that Jensen would be able to pull of the righteous fury of an Olympian god. Plus, whenever I pictured Hermes, I always thought of someone who had to be extremely attractive in order to have as many kids as he did in the books, and Jensen pretty much fits the bill.
However, I also I know that at some point, possibly in 4-6 years, Jensen is going to reunite with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins to do a spin-off of Supernatural, and if the PJO series isn't set to come out until maybe next year or the year after next, that may interfere with the spin-off he's trying to do. But hey, who knows what'll happen. Maybe he can balance both or maybe he'll postpone SPN a few more years.
But aside from that, I also, I think he resembles Mitchell Hope who Bryan cast as Luke (same color hair, similar noses, even similar down to the green eyes), so that's another plus for him being Hermes too, if you think about it. But hey, I'm rambling so don't mind me. I'm just a Supernatural girl who loves Percy Jackson.
I would like to point out that Dionysus isn't actually apathetic, he puts on a front of forced apathy. He was originally a demigod himself so having to work at camp where he sees demigods die all the time while he continues to live would be the worst of punishments. It's not that he doesn't care, it's just that he forces himself to act like he doesn't care.
I want the actress that played Ms. Dodds to come back
are you going to do the heroes of olympus as well?
Gods, I hope so
These were fantastic choices but I think someone who would be even better in the role of Chiron might be Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth from Game of Thrones). He has the strong and almost humble grand voice and vibe while still being able to come off as fatherly and kind with boundless wisdom, I think he could really nail the role
I love the choice of Tom Hardy as Aries it’s great
11:15 i completely agree with the luke choice, since if the percy jackson movies succeded, luke (stop reading if you havent read the entire series)
would suck, because he needs to have that change at the end, and when he looks evil, he... looks evil. he doesnt look like hes able to pull that change off.
also, who would play younger luke? in percy's dream about annabeth' flashbacks, and when she says the exposition, because exposition suck in movies. either show, dont tell, or show AND tell. just tell kinda sucks in movies. in books it makes sense, after all, that is the entire thing about books.
I always love that you find actors that fit the role and I would never think of
Great reasoning behind the choices too, particularly about Luke having to seem like a part of camp, which is something I hadn’t considered
I hope do the ring of cabins justice, they were beautiful in the books description. Also I wanna see some Stoll brothers pranks, ngl
I'd love to see you cast characters from the Cherub books if they were to do a tv show. One of the biggest book franchises to never receive any films or shows
Okay, that was really good. The only one that lined up with my own casting was Vincent D'onofrio, and most of your choices I hadn't even considered for those roles, but the moment you showed a clip it was like, yeah, okay, I see where you're going there.
Tom Hardy would be great for Ares. He could also nail the more benevolent side of him that we see with Frank in Heroes of Olympus
He's a good choice, but if they can't afford him or if he doesn't want it, then Jensen Ackles is another great underrated actor who could definitely pull playing Ares imo.
@@struggleskywalker1025 hear me out Jensen as Hermes
@@gabis314 Oh, I could see that too. I actually have three choices: Jensen Ackles (if he can't be cast as Ares), Ian Somerhalder, or Ewan McGregor (although, that might be difficult since he's also gonna be doing the Kenobi TV show.)

there are no Percy Jackson films here in Ba Sing Se
I like the popular casting of Melissa Ponzio as Sally, her on teen wolf shows just how warm as a mother she is but still super strong
I love the recasting you're doing so far! To be honest, the lightning thief movie has a little soft spot in my heart because this movie introduced me to the books and Rick Riordan, so therefore I am grateful it exists :)
Friendly reminder: Chiron is a white stallion. It was another thing the Peter Johnson movies got wrong, just reminding
I think Vincent D'Onofrio is a great choice for Gabe, but I think he would be better as The General/Atlas
Also thought Natalia Tena for Sally? Oh and as soon as the description for Mr D, I immediately thought Bret Garret (think that's his name, Murray from Stranger Things; sounds like they're basically the same person). Should say I've not read the books but I want to
I never realized how incredible Mark Sheppard would be!!! That is prob my ultimate fan cast you've done!
i still love the idea of jon bernthal as ares- as the punisher i think he’s perfect
Bill Burr as Gabe.
Karl Urban as Mr. D
Jacob Bertrand as Luke
If we're doing the 'fantasy young adult novel' thing, as that seems to be a theme here (love it!), would you consider doing a Michael Vey casting? I think there's a lot of depth and really interesting characters in that series, and it has never been adapted into a film or series! I know it's a little too close to Percy Jackson (lightning powered kids) to do right away, but PLEASE consider it for the future! Much love
Ok Crowley as Dionysus was an excellent suggestion. I’ve been enjoying these videos regardless but that specific reveal made me go “F**K YES!” aloud 😂
Great castings. Personally I think Viggo Mortinsen would be great for Chiron
Yessss!!! Probably won't happen but would be so amazing if it did!
OMG WHEN YOU CASTED MR. D I WAS JUMPING UP AND DOWN, YES! I wholeheartedly agree with that
Mark Shepard as Mr. D is so perfect!
Can you do a recast of Narnia
Hephaestus, Kevin Durand. He's made a career of being muscle-head or military type roles in the past, but like in "The Strain" playing Fet or "Swamp Thing" playing Dr. Woodrue, he's moved on from such roles to play precisely what you need from the god of smiths; someone who gives off a sense of complete professional pride and work ethic in what expert work they do. He also has a hint of being creepy, maybe misanthropic, or maybe misunderstood and emotionally-guarded, all traits that better serve a portrayal of Hephaestus. And lastly, he's a big dude. He's big, intimidating, and he's no stranger to wearing prosthetics and heavy makeup for a role (like "X-Men Origins" or "Dark Angel"), so if they decide they want to make him more deformed/mangled, by all means they can go all out on it.
Woahhh who you casted as Luke kinda blew my mind and I do not think I’d be mad at it if it happened, I just never thought of it like wow that’d be really cool to see
I agree with all your casting choices! They are all really amazing!!!!
For Ares, I went with Vinnie Jones. In the Lightning Thief, he plays a menacing brute who could intimidate anyone, whereas he becomes more comedic as the series goes on. If anyone has seen Galavant (or his football career), they'll know he can make this work.
I had Hugh Laurie as Mr. D. He has the perfect amount of sarcasm as well as being able to transition to threatening when required, as he showed for many years on House.
With Chiron, I chose Kyle Chandler. He seems the perfect amount of compassion mixed with worry and the odd annoyance at Percy's antics.
For Medusa, I chose Lucy Liu. She feels like she has the perfect voice for the role where she could lull you into a false sense of security as well as the ability to film a kick-ass fight scene.
For Sally, I chose Mandy Moore. She just has the perfect amount of warmth and caring that would be required for the role.
For Gabe, I chose Cary Elwes. He's definitely capable of going full sleazeball as we've seen in things like Stranger Things or Twister. I just get that vibe from his performances that he could nail this.
And I didn't cast Luke because I don't want to cast any campers as I want entirely unknown faces.
Great choices
Also, good on you for remembering that Medusa isn't white
@@fashionablechangeling1988 It's the only thing I dislike about the casting tbh since she is Middle Eastern, but I just couldn't think of another actress who fit the bill I pictured or a big enough reason to keep her as a Middle Eastern woman in the context of the story.
@@michaeloconnor5904 TBH, Medusa is supposed to be just the voice and presence since we're not supposed to see her face. Medusa was one of the characters I didn't cast because I couldn't think of anyone to play her
@@fashionablechangeling1988 Eva Green would be a good shout, but while I feel somewhat okay changing the race from Persian to Asian, I don't think white-washing would be the way to go. this is such a fun mini series
i would have chosen Melissa Ponzio for Sally Jackson. But Linda Cardellini is also a really good choice.
I really like your Luke and that clip you showed with him and Kieran gave me Luke and Annabeth vibes. Juliana Harkevy from Arrow would be my choice for Sally
that medusa casting was spot on
Two actors who played James Bond also play Chiron? That's excellent.
i actually pictured timothy olyphant for ares when reading the book
Timothy Dalton is perfect casting, exactly the vibe I pictured in the book
I love the music in the background! It makes it feel so epic and thrilling! I am so hyped about some of my favourite books getting a series!!
I don't know if you've read them, but you should consider doing a live action Dragonlance Chronicles cast! They made an animated movie based on the first book a long time ago but it hasn't quite gotten to the stage of serious conversations for a movie or series. Apparently Joe Manganiello (who is too old to play any of the main characters anyway) has been advocating for one because he loves D&D and Dragonlance is based on D&D.
For some reason when I read the description of Ares i instantly imagined Danny Trejo
Mark Sheppard as Mr. D and Mitchell Hope as Luke it was a surprise, but how aptly cast.
Here's who I casted:
Jason Momoa as Ares
Nicholas Hamilton as Luke Castellan
Jack Black as Dionysus/Mr. D
Timothy Dalton as Chiron
Helena Bonham Carter as Medusa
Winona Ryder as Sally Jackson
Ben Affleck as Gabe Ugliano
Once again, 10/10 would recommend!! This was fantastic!
This was literally perfect

*do you want a build a snowman music plays* "i just wanna be an extra, someone to walk in the city, i wanna see the filming and, the directors, even if just for one day, i wanna see the competition, that might happen, between harry and percy! we all know its gonna happen (percy is obviously disney's chance at a merchendising and box office competitor of harry)"
yes i agree with like everyone !! mark shepherd especially. he’s so good!!
Am I the only one who thinks Robert Downey Jr would be good as Chiron.
I see where you're going with that, but Chiron is notably dry and I feel like RDJ is too comedic and eccentric for it. I could see him doing a decent job with Mr. D though.
yes
Yes, dude
I don't know Mr D maybe
No for Chiron, but he could do an interesting Mr. D. He might be a bit too close to Stanley Tucci's version though
My Choices
Aries: Christian Bale
Chiron: Peter Capaldi or Kenneth Branagh
Sally Jackson: Elizabeth Olson
Mr D: Toby Jones
Medusa: Eva Green
Luke: Tom Holland
Oooooh, Toby Jones would be good at that. I had Hugh Laurie as Mr. D, but he'd be excellent. I'd say that I prefer Kenneth Branagh over Peter Capaldi since Capaldi seems slightly to manic, for want of a better word.
