Starbucks is a good thing back there? We won't even allow one to be built in our town!

Really? Wow! They say Saturbucks increases the value of homes in the vicinity. But on the flipside, I can see what you mean. When they opened one in my neighborhood, it did cause some traffic with the way the drivethru was set up. But it definitely stays busy and they recently opened up a much bigger one less than 4 miles down the road.

@@sweetkay5 The least expensive home sold in the city where I live over the last two years went for $1.5 million. We have excellent (real) coffee here. Starbucks? beige water. I'm not a rich guy, but I've learned to appreciate good coffee.

Starbucks are actually terrible for local economies. They are a franchise so obviously the money they make is not funneled back through the community, not to mention they receive significant tax breaks. They also tend to take up a lot of valuable real estate with parking lots and drive thru's, and purposely try to steer competition away from local business. There is a good reason why they are not allowed in some towns and many other franchises/corporations for that matter.

I can definitely 'feel' what you are saying. There are many things that become famous and lovable because of society and media. Starbucks is one of them. Even the teenagers know the menu. My next thing is to do some research on the towns that don't allow the franchise to be built! Thanks for the info!
