I shoot canon for work, all RAW, but use fuji with leica glass for fun and street.. RAW + jpg
I would add for street photography, i use the dr400 extended dynamic range mode on the fuji. The dr400 mode, in short, distributes the exposure more evenly thru the exposure of the images, removing the necessity of underexposing for highlights. It does this by requiring you to shoot at iso 640 or higher. This allows the camera to underexpose the hi lights of an image while boosting the mod tones and shadows…. basically what you eventually do in post if you underexposed your images. It does all of these calculations prior to the analog to digital conversion, so it works in RAW!
To find out about this technique, check out Pal2tech video on this mode in detail:
      ruclips.net/video/RjjCa73XxsY/видео.html
Whats great about this mode is that you no longer are required to underexpose your images to retain hi lights… something that generates, often, underexposed jpgs. It uses the computer in your camera as it should be used. As a photographer, you’re not supposed to alter your photography because digital sensor tech is shit at retaining highlights. You ALTER the tech to conform how you shoot for the scenes. Fuji dr400 mode does this.
For additional street photography tips, I make sure to get it right in camera. This allows for immediate use as jpgs (I shoot raw + jpg). I uses a -4 on sharpness and and -2 on the highlight and shadow tone curves. This LOWERS the contrast on the jpg, allowing me to add contrast in an iOS photo app. I use MaxCurves to do that as it allows for sophisticated curves to be used discreetly as highlight, midrange and shadow tone curves to tweak the image.

I shoot JPEG + RAW for the reasons you outlined. Sometimes the JPEG files for some images are just magic and convey the emotional state of the moment. Fuji has nailed this concept with JPEG presets. JPEG files are efficient for when you just don't want to fuss in post. I have on occasions thought a particular JPEG image was good and then tweaked that same image in raw into a great picture. At the end of the day it's about creating images. That's why I love photography so much as a form of self expression because no one else will see that image in the same way you did. Keep creating beautiful images that inspire.

I shoot with M10P (my only digital) & MP with 35 cron and 75 summarit. I do music events and portraits, often on both film and digital. I previously had an SL and only adapted M glass to it as well, but sold it because I wanted the M body experience. But now I’m back again wanting an sl2s and pick up a 24-70 for faster shooting when I need it.

@@oliscurra When I had the SL, I wasn’t doing much client work and my personal work was all on film, daily camera being an M6 at the time. I sold it to fund other things. When I bought my m10p 6 months later, it made me excited to shoot digital again. I felt right at home using an M and it didn’t feel like a hassle to bring out with me (unlike the SL.. it always felt and looked “too serious” for casual walks).
Recently I’ve had more client work come through. When under time pressure or when there’s a critical moment that needs to be captured, the burst mode becomes very important to me. I was shooting Q along side my M10P (usually with my 75mm on it) which was a great combo EXCEPT when burst was required - the Q’s processor just couldn’t keep up at times. When you’re trying to capture a dance performance that’s on stage for only 5 mins, you can imagine the stress when seeing the camera buffering. I shoot in low light a lot at music events (crowds with drinks and all kinds of weather conditions) so the sl2s solves a lot of the shortfalls I had with the Q.
I’m really looking forward to the sl2s with 24-70! I got the Leica m-l adapter as well to have more options with M lenses. My kit is making a lot more sense now and I feel I have better versatility with the kinds of things I want to shoot 🙌🏼😎

Sony's for some reason I never gelled with well as a photo camera (A7ii), but the A7Siii has some of the most beautiful skin tones for video with the Cinetone profile. Really good. All my videos since the Leica M10-P review were shot on the A7siii.

As much as it pains me to trade the Q2M in, my budget can’t handle two leica bodies and the Sony gears. So, I decided to part ways with them. Hey A i, I think the SL2-S is one of the best cameras I’ve ever shot hands down at least digital. I find that the GFX 50R had the best sensor… But overall SL2-S is the top of the Pops. There are rumours that an SL3 is coming out so the question is how much of a hurry are you in? because if the SL3 comes out well then secondhand prices for the SL2S drop and becomes a whole lot more available or you have the option of getting the SL3 instead. I don’t know much about the 75 mm lens you’re talking about, but I shoot the 75 mm 1.4 for the M mount and it’s by far my favourite portrait lens ever. But that’s because of its character. The 75mm focal length is one I much prefer to 85 as well. Let me know which way you decide to go…

The M10-P wins in terms of size and charm, which are both very important characteristics. For portraiture an unassuming camera really helps. But I’d go with the SL2-S. The image quality is better (especially in lowlight), so is the EVF, which I prefer to use with my weird lenses. Is that the decision you’re up against at the moment?

Yikes... frikkin' Leica man. On the other hand I've noticed other brands are hiking their prices considerably too. I hope Leica doesn't think they need to raise their prices as a result. 😬

@@jailbreakoverlander how is the SL2-S AF with the 24-70mm lens you bought? Is the contrast AF any good? I’m very tempted by the same combo as you have!

Leica Monochrome cameras are very nice, but I perfer to use black and white films for shooting!!!

    Can't mess with Acros+G

    • @oliscurra
      @oliscurra  2 года назад +1

I hear ya. Out of all the Acros simulations, Acros+G, was also my favourite. Once I saw what the Leica produces though, the first thing I though of, was to compare this to the Acros G on my X-Pro II. I could do it on the X100F, but on the X-Pro I could mount some similar Leica glass as well. What do you think? Is that an interesting comparison and which one would make more sense? The X100F or the X-Pro II vs the Leica. I don't have any other Fuji's at this point.

@@oliscurra you should try actoss especially with medium format. I have GFX100 and I put Schneider Kreuznach Blach Hollywood cinematic filter to the lens. Acros comes up like film

I used to own the GFX 50R and it is one of the most amazing sensors ever. I poured over my photos with the GFX after getting the sl2-s and here’s the truth, there’s nothing negative I can say about the GFX acros+g image. I can also say the SL2-S kicks ass. I have to shoot both acros and monochrome hq side by side to say more. 🙂
