great video Oli
I wish a firmware update would bring the 14bit drop to the X1D II
Can’t agree on the microcontrast. The lack of it is what makes this lens particularly ideal for portraits.
Focus was off at 1.4 and it has focus shift. Until digital came along I could not figure what was wrong. I replaced it 75 2.0 APO and am happy.
All equipment has limitations and it's like the old saying the right horse for the right course. I found shooting pentax 67 lenses on a 5D mark ii really rewarding but when I tried the Mamyia, I found it a waste of time.
I own the X2D and it is a slow me down camera which I have completely feel in love with. Just holding it sends shivers down my spine. Great review and some awesome photographs Oliver.
I have owned Nikon cameras for many decades. I currently have a D800, D810, three D850s, and a lot of Zeiss and Nikon 'gold ring' lenses. I use these Nikons for more fast pace photography. However, when I really want to elevate my enjoyment and feel more connected with the photography experience, I grab my Hasselblad camera and lenses, my RRS tripod, slow down, use manual mode, become more methodical and intention, and carefully composed each shot. For me, this results in a greater connection to, and pride in, the gorgeous final Hasselblad images.
Starting with the short answer in the first 5 seconds? Good lord, that's something
Well... no point trying to artificially drag you till the end. I'd rather tell you "why"... and possibly "why not". Do you adapt a lot of lenses to the X2D?
Rarely i comment on a video but man i love your portraits and i will like to see more of them, do you post on instagram?
Очень достойное видео!
Большое спасибо, мой друг. Хорошо, что вы оставили комментарий. PS: Надеюсь, это правильно переведено 🙂
@@oliscurra Всё правильно, мне очень понравилось ваше видео!
One more point: No flash if the electronic Shutter is used with adapted glass.
That’s a very good point mate. Thanks from mentioning it. 👍🏽
13k? wow!
Yep. You know… just some pocket change 😳
EVFs for large sensors aren’t fit for purpose. An optical viewfinder would eliminate that EVF lag nonsense that some confuse with a ‘purposeful shooting approach,’ which could be avoided by keeping the optical one.
I think onset, photographers and videographers are super unsung heroes because I can’t tell you how inspired I’ve been to make movies while watching the behind-the-scenes in the bloopers and the stuff going on behind-the-scenes in the movie process. I honestly obviously I like the movies themselves, but watching people make movies behind-the-scenes is very inspiring and I think whoever captures that is to be praised and blessed.
Oli, thoroughly enjoyed your video and your style of presenting it. well done!
Cheers Randy. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
I’d love to get this one but 95% of my shots are sports and music concerts. So I need fast shutter and lowlight. Canon r6mk2 ftw.
How about the HC & HCD lenses? The older loose AF function, while the more recent Orange dot/square should be fully compatible. HC also cover a larger sensor. Obviously AF will become even slower, but the retain central shutter function
Nice catch. I forgot to mention them. It would be awesome to adapt them once and give them a try though.
@@oliscurra also it gives access to the HTS, opening the world of architectural photography
I am always excited to watch your videos! Thank you for a great one again!
Super glad you enjoyed it. 👍🏽
when I had an x1dii i used an adapted hcd 100mm f2.2 using the xh adapter from Hasselblad. That lens truly produced amazing results. Incredible bokeh. I still miss using that setup. But as far as adapting other lenses it is a big no for me using Hasselblad. I am on the fence about getting another, the x2d, or getting a gfx and being able to adapt all types of lenses. I prefer the color science on the Hasselblad though.
That’s a bit an issue for me too. The color science of the Hasselblad X2D is without a doubt my favourite colour science I’ve shot.
Exactly how I experience and thanks for the friendly reminder workaround, accompanied by great photos, always excited whenever u have new video!
I’m glad you like it, mate. Which lenses do you adapt to the X2D?
@@oliscurra i adapted the M lenses, having said that i m sticking with the natives lol.. i wont mind though but not worth the hassle to be honest, while i plugged the cfv100c to 500 series bodies flawlessly and love it
Huzzleblad should adopt your pronunciation!

Hello is the focus slow like it hunts at time
I don’t feel it hunts very much. Of course you cannot compare it to Sony camera. If that’s your frame of reference, you will be disappointed.
It’s not bad. It depends on what you are used to. But it Also never seems to miss focus. I have x1d too
@@ChrisM-yq2pq Does the X1D miss or hunt for focus more?
Same experience here Oli. When shooting third pary glass is your thing the GFX system works better. The hassie I shoot mostly with xcd glass 👍🏼
Which XCD glass do you shoot mate?
Adapting the lens is truly one of the biggest downfalls of this camera. I also try to adapt the V lens to the X2D, and the hassle and frustration are just not worth the final image.
Honestly I think it’s the wrong system to choose if your primary interest is adapted lenses. A Fuji GFX makes way more sense.
@@davidmantripp5312 I totally agree. I bought it for its modern lens but I think its a shame that old V lens don't work better.
I guess the sensor absolutely outperforms the V lenses, but I still enjoy shooting them. My biggest wish was that the adapter would’ve triggered the shutter mechanism in the lens itself.
Love how you put this together, Oli! Your shots look great. Insightful points 👏
Thank you very much mate. I am glad you liked it. Got another video scheduled for today about adapting lenses to the X2D. 😉
What a video! Structure, flow, visuals, sound. Beauty!

Leica M11 has better colour than X2D?
Im definitely sharing this with my high school commercial photography class!!!❤
Cool take. Wish you made similar video about Leica SL3
I will soon enough. Approx 2 months or so.
haha, now i have a name ''Im a Sharpness colour Peeper'' ,x2d100 . love my 21 65, 80 and 90 , get exiting of it .its magic every time ......especially that 80.regards.
Well..there is a lot of people this camera is not suited for. Me, on the other hand, it is. Looking for the best quality images out there, and just looking at the cameras esthetiques..oh man..Just bought into Sony again but this Hasselblad is probably the kind of camera I want to retire myself with. Just for the joy, the passion of photography, how it makes you feel and the way of life.
Definitely for me. If you can fall in love with a camera and marry it, that would be my soul mate. Beautifully executed video. And your voice is amazing.
Absolutely! Content, style, presentation - almost poetic.
As someone who is seriously considering the X2D, your take is pretty good indeed. Well worth a watch, folks.
I used to own the 35mm Summilux FLE that I later sold for the pre-FLE; other than a crappy lens hood, I it's great; I love the way it draws.
The reason I bought a v3 of the 75mm Summilux is that it came factory 6-bit coded and apparently was tuned for digital vs film. The focus of my copy has always been spot on for portraits closer to minimum focus distance. Like you, this is also my favorite lens.
What’s the other lens you wouldn’t sell?
Don't you find the sensor format limiting?
Do you mean the 4:3 aspect ratio?
@@oliscurra yes. Even if I use 1:1 often for Instagram, I always find other formats than 2:3 a bit awkward, especially for landscapes
@webersteve1547 3:2 is definitely my favourite but I owned the GFX - 50 R for a long time so I’m relatively used to 4:3. For me the most limiting thing about the Camera is the inability to have the image preview in black-and-white.
@oliscurra I sent you a message on IG and followed you.
I'll stick with my original X1d I picked up for £1,700. I'll bet my camera that 90% of X2D owners only put their photos on line and never print.
Mate, you're probably not wrong. In fact, I would say you could replace "X2D owners" with "Camera owners", increase the % from 90% to 97% and safely put your camera, car & chequing account up grabs with almost zero risk. What lenses are you sporting on the X1D and is it your main camera?
@@oliscurra I have the 45p and 28p currently, and I'm going to pick up the 90 f3.2 which will do me for both portrait and landscape soon. This is my main camera for personal work, travel and printmaking. I do have a full frame and telephoto lens for paid work shooting portraits, headshots and events, but those images end up on websites.
Where did u buy so cheap from

Thank you very much. I will put some effort into a few editing videos.
Best review of SL2s cameras, very accurate, very honest, very practical good job
Cheers mate, I appreciate it. 👍🏽
A good introduction to the Hasselblad X2D Oli. Thank you! I am not its target audience. I shoot on a Nikon Nikomat film camera and the Hasselblad 503cx (again, film). All I want next is a fast action type camera, with a long lens to shoot Eider Ducks and Puffins. Perhaps, that Nikon Z9, with the Nikkor 400mm f/2.8 TC lens. Of course, I have to be cautious, as I don't want the G.A.S to get me. Muahahahahaha! Commenting to boost the Al(Gore)Rhythm.
GAS.... I tell you, the number of decisions I've made because of it. If you could bottle an antidote... I'd have a stock of it in the fridge. I've shot Nikon before and have Nikon glass but all of it film... never digital. What makes you go for the Nikon instead say Sony or Canon?
@@oliscurra I had a bad experience with Sony Japan. I won't be buying any of their products. That said, they make soooo many components, it'll be hard to completely cross them off my list (sensors for example). I've looked into the canon lenses and don't like them, and they are more expensive, compared to the Nikon equivalent, on average.
I own the Hx2d since it get on the market and was using the x1d2 also. Since i got my Leica M11P with 3 of the best Leica lenses. I dont use my Hasselblad anymore. I can print very large size with 60 MP files as good as the 100mp including 16 bits colours.
That's fantastic mate. Truth be told I was very happy printing up to A3 with a 12MP crop sensor camera back in 2006. Most of my printed work comes from my M10-P, SL2-S and my former GFX-50r. The one thing I've always noticed about the larger sensor, through the board is the bigger the sensor the clearer the details in prints A3 and above. And it must be said... you're not printing photos shot on a potato. Leica glass on a Leica sensor... that's the king class. 👑 I think it's awesome you do prints. 👍🏽 It's done too little nowadays. What size do you tend to print at generally? Cheers!
