I'm old,74. I played the trumpet when I was young. This young lady has complete control of a very fickle instrument. She has that magic touch that makes a trumpet come alive and stir the emotions with clear, beautifully crafted notes. Incidentally, I played slightly to one side on my mouth too.
I started in 1955. Still have my 1957 (if it were a Chevy, it would be a classic!) trumpet that my father paid $133.00 for! I remember it well, because it was so much money to him :) I'll be 76 this August. I agree with you completely about Melissa!

The Last Post ! Never, ever, heard it so refined ! Utter skill. Wish I could have that played at each of my parents funerals. BUT not just funerals it was beautiful in its own right. TALENT !

I served 22 years in the British Army and have heard the last post played many times. I am retired now but was out running a few months ago using an old ipod that had about 4000 songs on it. This tune came up and I found myself running with tears in my eyes!
Being ex RAF (1961-1975) I have heard 'The Last Post' played before, and every time no matter if a band, solo player etc., like this young girl, always makes my eyes water. It is just a tune that always reminds me of those lost in wars, and this young girls play it beautifully.

I have played the trumpet myself since 1981 and also Il Silenzio. It's one of the most delicate pieces there are on trumpet and besides that I used to play this solo myself in my former band, I've heard it being played literally hundreds of times by hundreds of players. But never, never like Melissa. There's only one possible definition for this, and that is: perfection. Absolute sheer perfection. Technically and emotionally. There is just one person that can bring tears to my eyes with this piece...and that's Melissa Venema. BRAVA!!!
I have listened to this so many times. I have also compared to many others. A long time ago I could play this myself... but never to this degree of perfection. If you have never played a trumpet you will not understand just how good Melissa is! Brilliant is the minimal word. If only time could stand still so that we never had to lose the genius people in this world.
