- Ford Ranger Raptor Production Silverton South Africa
Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Pty.) Ltd. is an automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturer with corporate headquarters in Pretoria.
It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company
The company was founded in 1923. A year later, the first Model Ts were assembled in Port Elizabeth. This made Ford the first automobile manufacturer in South Africa.
The assembly plant in Silverton near Pretoria was opened in 1967 (according to other sources 1968).
Together with Sigma Motor Corporation, which at that time belonged to Anglo American plc and produced Mazda models for the local market, Ford founded the South African Motor Corporation (Samcor) in 1985. In 1988, Ford withdrew from South Africa for economic and political reasons.
Samcor produced car and commercial vehicle models of the Ford and Mazda brands as well as the South African version of the Mazda 323 as Sao Penza.
A source confirms the sale of the Mazda 323 under the Sao Penza brand name in the UK between 1991 and 1992.
With the renewed takeover of Samcor shares (45%) in 1994 Ford returned to South Africa.
In 2000 Ford took over the majority of the Samcor shares, which became the Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa. Since 2014, the Mazda brand has again been distributed via its own dealer network.
The Ford Ranger is currently produced in Silverton. In addition, the FMCSA has an engine factory opened in Struandale near Port Elizabeth in 1964. The units manufactured there are exported to 148 countries. The Ford Everest SUV is also currently produced in Silverton.

Excellent
had a brand new 1987 ranger XLT 4x4 V6 for 13 years...loved it
Reliable but love gaz……
I still have my 87 Ford ranger with a 2.3L with 5 speed overdrive 2 Wheel drive base model no AC no power steering no power brakes everything simple easy to work on still running strong love it won’t get rid of it 👍 Great little trucks 🛻
Got an 01 ranger XLT 4x4 4.0L… gets 21 mpg highway and has never left me stranded. Will never sell it as long as I have it
Have a 19 Ranger, very happy with it, also had a 1993!
Sure wish my '23 Maverick would get built.. Awesome video. I really like how clean that factory is.
My question is, Anybody waiting for is ranger? Just really don’t know, what I know, I’m waiting for a maverick since April….
This isn’t the us factory.
Ordered my 22 Ranger Valentine's Day. Received that it was built on April 25th. Delivered on August 4th. I told the dealer in late July I had enough and told them I found a Ranger close to the one I ordered and told them to do a dealer trade. 2 days on August 4th it showed up. Mine was a $5.00 gallon diesel and the carriers park there trucks in protest.
It was nice to see smiling faces on the workers. To me it shows that they are happy in their job.
How do robot's smile? That's all that I basically saw in this video. People used to install the vehicle hood. No more, it's robot's doing 99% of the labor. Within 2 year's, robot's will be driving the finished vehicle out to the loading dock, to be shipped out to the dealer. And the few human employees are smiling because of the HUGE profit sharing check they are gonna get every year. Can't wait to see the video of Ford Electric Vehicles being produced. There will be less people working the assembly line, because the electric vehicles require less part's to assemble. Robot's will all that you see on the electric vehicle line. The only human on the assembly line is the one driving the finished vehicle off at the end of the line.
Not sure about the jobs market in South Africa but yeah it’s nice seeing smiling workers
Or have been threatened that they will be fired if they don't smile ☺
All the robots are really cool! Wonder how many of them enjoy driving their Rangers???
I have a Silverton built 2014 Ranger Limited 2.2 auto and am about to add a new 2023 Wildtrak 2.0 Biturbo to it. The 2014 has worked hard for 85,000 miles of general farm work and towing 3.5 tons on challenging roads. The only repeat problem has been rear springs breaking leaves, almost always when very lightly loaded for some reason. I did change the engine oil pump a few months ago just in case, because that is a known failure issue with the engines of that vintage. Changed the transmission and rear axle oil [again] at about 70,000 miles.
Love my Ranger
Wish we had the ranger raptor in the US
Ford announced the Raptor will be in US next year
It’s coming. We’ve been build preproduction units in body shop for about 2 weeks.
@@carlirving2138 Only real Raptor is the original f150 platform version.
Amazing 👍👍
I’ve just taken delivery of my V6 Ranger Sport
It was made in Thailand
I think this plant is somewhere in South Africa??
Oh didn't realize that tho not surprised. Many tasks are taken over by robots, sorta frightening good paying jobs with benefits r eliminated. Tho must say they really paint cars very well. ,,,😀
At 4:38 it was a Everest body. I have a Everest Titanium and Ranger FX4. Good video.
Love my 2019 Ranger 4×4
Nice, I used to work here.
Why don't you work there anymore? A robot take over your job? That's all I see in that plant in this video. Scab labor.
?
The workers are very very good. 🇮🇹👍
This is the South Africa factory.
Beautiful vehicle.❤️
Thanks
I love my ranger ❤

Ranger!!!!
This factory is going to set the highest quality standards in SA. There is currently no other new car manufacturer in SA who uses the latest technology in car assembly plants. Once the new Ranger and then Amarok is going to hit the showroom floors the buyers is going to line up.
Have they fixed the following issues happening in Australia on the next gen , breaks coming on automatically at speed, tail shaft vibration, electrics shutting down, etc
How’s the paint look so well done all from spraying it on so quickly
robots can paint quickly... it takes around 150s to layer each layer... I know this because I was one of the paint engineers to commission the paint robots in this video for about 2,5 years at ford
Great job ford
👍 good extern design
Keep the American pride of perfection up if not we will have to buy what’s better made
I think this is not a plant in the United States. The Everest is also being built, and that's not an American market SUV. It would be too expensive to export from the United States.
@@cargueone1971 This factory is south africa; the new version of Ranger being built there won't be available in the US until mid-year 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle.
The US factory is still building the older version Ranger in the meantime.
We mis you for Indian. ..🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
How do get a job there...awesome video..
Where were these being built at?
This used to be the job for Aussies building our FORDS
Thanks to our idiotic politicians, tariffs were reduced which then flooded our market with cheap imported cars. Every market in the world that manufactures vehicles protects their industry by imposing tariffs on imports. You can thank senator John Button who was the crusader for reducing import tariffs with the belief that this would make our manufacturing more productive & therefore more competitive. Wasn’t he wrong!. I am an electrician who completed my electrical apprenticeship with General Motors & then went on to work at both Ford & Toyota. It was very sad for me personally when our automotive manufacturing industries closed down in Australia. I will cherish all of the fond memories of those golden days.
All very nice!Let's Hope they can keep the Power on?
Could you show us the containers of parts coming from China?or india?
I wish there was some narration instead of just music.
Is it fitted with ford's infamous powershit gearbox or a ecoboom engine that over heats and kills the engine or burns the driver to death. Don't waste your money.
Fantastic ! 👍
Is this the plant in South Africa, looks very high tech
And people’s works look great.👍🏼
Yep! This in South Africa... Ford also just built their first in decades chassis plant here in South Africa. Very high tech and world class. I enjoyed being part of that work
And yet ford couldn’t build the ranger I ordered then reordered last year. So out of frustration I went and bought an inbound Toyota Tacoma. Ford has angered a lot of us ranger customers by choosing to prioritize bronco production and ignore people waiting for over a year
I ordered my Ranger XLT FX4 in July 2021. The dealership told me it would be a 3 month wait. About 5 months later Ford emailed me and said my Ranger was being upgraded to 2022. I noticed some changes like the blackout package I didn't order. They did that because the spay in bed liner i wanted was no longer a stand alone order, you had to order the blackout package to get it. Also, the heated seats I ordered were now only available on the Lariat. So the truck I ordered months ago didn't even exist for the 2022 models, and Ford still didn't have a build date or a VIN for this truck. I called the dealership screaming. They started looking for a truck that was similar to what I ordered, but I wanted the extended cab and those are rare. I told the sales manager forget it......I bought a used 2017 Tacoma off road extended cab with 19,500 miles and saved thousands of dollars. About two months after I bought the Tacoma the dealership called and said my truck came in. I told them I had a toyota parked in the garage. They actually had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to trade the tacoma in for the Ford. I love my Tacoma.
I got my 22 ranger xl in 5 months and 15 days
Ordered my 2022 Ranger Super Cab (6 ft bed) in mid Feb. 2022 and got it May 19, 2022. I had the dealer do the mud flaps and spray bed liner. I also ordered it with the Auto Stop delete. Was told doing this would speed up the process and it did.
@Peter shaw
How heavy is it?
This must be out of the American factory? The new models have only recently reached the UK and all ours have been sourced from Silverton, South Africa, since the T6 launch back in 2012 or so.
What's with the head gasket on the 2.0s heard they suck
One day or another, head gasket sucks….all models, and brand’s….
@@sylvainlaurence1554 289,000 miles on a 2004 2 valve 5.4. No gasket issues
Goood
So where the hell are the trucks
Be good if they galvanised the chassis.
The truck would last too long then, and loss of sales.,😀

there few mistakes ford make with this was pushing engine too far back under cab body cause headaches because of sensor on head at rear of engine which cant get to it and ended up having disconnected transmission and lift it up give enough room get socket on sensor (was painful and sharp metal)
2nd WHERE IS MANUEL TRANSMISSION CMOM FORD i dont like auto transmission because bored and more problems down the road (auto transmission have soo many moving parts to keep transmission working if one failures it caused it all to failures which why manuel transmission outlasted auto transmission because dont need a lot of moving parts just clutch and gear ring that about it) if i were find other truck i be willing find one with manuel transmission ONLY periods because it so easy take aparts and fix it and put it back together
Impressive but a shame. In the interest of money, hardly any MANpower performing this work and yet their prices still go up
These plants employ a lot of people even with the increase in automation
How come the employees working on the assembly lines have no safety glass on at all?
Safety glasses are bad for your eyesight 😬
They are only assembling , and are not using machinery
no ear plugs also.
OSHA standards do not apply outside the U.S.
People wake up, its South Africa, the unions are only interested in money, not workers safety!
Toyota has used this type robotic technology in the Georgetown, Ky plant for over 30 years. Nothing new here.
The plant looks new 🤣
Fabrica 4 carro diferentes pra minha netas e a rainha jessica
Whas so keen on nee ford, till I got the worst service from 2 different dealers, so bad that I am trading in my 2021 wildtak and going back to Toyota. My Wildtrak still mot fixed 3rd Dealer. Suspension done at 45000 km and then must be redone at 93000 km, and like I say 3 dealer and still standing. No more Confidence in the product and in the Dealerships for support.
Same kind of things with all those automatic cars, focus, fiesta etc..
Had a Ranger as a rental truck when I was in NC filming for my channel. I hope my ex[eriance with it was a one off or Ford is in a lot of trouble down the road. I think every front sensor had an issue of some sort. Most of the time when trying to use adaptive cruise control it wouldn't work saying the sensors were blocked. If it it engage it would nearly rearend the vehicle in front of me before it slammed on the brakes. Once the distance specified was acheived again it would accelerate hard and not brake the second time. I coould be stopped and a vehicle could pull up next to me either side and the collision warning would go off, thinking I was about to get into an accident. At one time coming onto the hwy from an on-ramp, it downshifted and had such a lound bang and jolt I though the tranny just blew up on me. The lane keep was so bad I had to dissable it. It would bounce the truck back and forth between the lines so bad I kept expecting to be pulled over and have to do a sobriety test.
Mate what you rented was a Ute a truck generally has 10 wheels then add on a trailer
Rental vehicles are the worst possible comparison to what you will get from the factory there is. People abuse vehicles you know, and some even sabotage vehicles for the fun of it. Then people like you go online and trash something you have no idea the history behind what you drove. I think it's safe to ignore your "evaluation".
BTW, the Ranger being built in this video is a successor version of the Ranger you have in the US. It won't be available in the US until mid-year 2023, as a 2024 model year vehicle.
I was in a manufactured home once, and the roof leaked. Obviously, ALL manufactured homes are built with leaky roofs. So ........ how did you like my evaluation of YOUR product, Nate?
@@rayrussell6258 I was just stating my experience with one. Yes I know rentals get abused. This one had less than 10k on the odometer.
@@NatesHomeTours Clearly the intent of your post was to discredit the brand, otherwise you wouldn't have gone into such detail for a single rental that likely only lasted a day or two. You were LOOKING for negatives.
Number of miles on the vehicle does not matter. For all of that to happen on ONE vehicle, there had to be tampering or the vehicle was in an accident and not properly repaired, also something that frequently happens on rental vehicles.
Sometimes it's best to just keep "experiences" to yourself, Nate. People's lives depend on the work they do in companies producing these products, and one isolated instance needs not be broadcast to the world over a social media site. I happen to know that Ford quality is in a statistical dead heat with Toyota and Honda, because I spent a career in automotive and studied that data constantly. Hard statistical objective data, not that soft "opinion"/ subjective data reported by the press that they get from Consumer Reports customers surveys or JDPower, also a collection of subjective opinions.
As I said, MY experience with manufactured houses is they all leak, based on the one that I entered that had a roof leak! Painting the entire manufactured home industry with my single experience isn't fair, is it, Nate? So except in response to people who unfairly and openly attack products, I resist temptation and keep that experience quiet usually.

Since when do robot's smile? All that I see in this video is robot's. Used to be two people installed the front hood on Ford vehicles. No more!! What few people are left on the assembly line are smiling because of the HUGE profit sharing check they are gonna get in the Spring of that year. Wait until you see the Ford electric vehicles pump out. There's way less part's to install on EV's. Ford does not have the brightest engineers.
Troll
Ford don't have the brightest executive's either. The Ford Glass House is full of them at the 12th floor. Billy junior spends millions of Ford dollars restoring a crappy looking train station in Corktown, that should have been torn down decade's ago, but doesn't use one of the many empty Ford office buildings all around the Detroit Lions Practice Field Complex to build a computer chip facility. Ford Motor Co. owns more
empty buildings and empty acres across Dearborn and surrounding suburbs, than GM could shake a stick at. BUT, Ford's gotta have that piece of shit train station, and a pretty park in front of it in Detroit.
