    Just built this stand today, the holes are very tricky lining up and a drill press would have made things easier. Also with the 3 10 foot PVC tubes I would highly recommend anyone doing this to only buy 4 I had to take back two 10 foot sections because it was more then enough. Other then that the stand is great it folds and is very sturdy. The cost is about 110.00 minus the glue and if you need the cutter for the pvc. I cut mine with a miter saw and got very precise cuts.

    Great video....I actually built a set myself.....my opinion and only my opinion.....is that I spent around $60 bucks on them , due to the fact that I had absolutely nothing laying around the house, so I had to buy everything except the webbing....after looking on Amazon I found some kayak stands with carrying bag for about $50 bucks, buuuuuuut they definitely don't seem to be as tall.....Nevertheless great video....and I was able to build 2 stands with 3 sticks of 10 FT.....just made the 16in sections shorter @12 in

    With a bit of tweaking of the lengths of the "T" and the spacing on the "Y", you could build these so they fold completely flat for storage.

    Nice design. I’d offer one alteration: the free looped side scares me. I’d likely instal something (set screw on each side of the loop or a modest u-shaped kitchen drawer pull) to prevent the loop from slipping down the side if the rack is inadvertently knocked.

    Use clear primer, when gluing pvc, apply glue to both the pipe and the fitting. The pipe comes in two different types, there is regular pvc and then there is foam core pvc. Foam core is lighter in weight. Just as strong as regular pvc. You can use 1 1/2 " pvc.

    I think I would heat a nail (held in a vise grip pliers) red hot, and melt the holes for the screws. That would be a tiny bit more secure, as it would make a sort of "grommet" in the webbing. But drilling seems to work well, and the stands look to work well.

    Nice video. Anyone considered or tried a simple straight piece instead of T? Probably same strength and stability but saves fittings and maybe a full section of pipe as well. Also easier to get the flat fold several watchers mentioned. Cheers

    • @woody350ep1
      @woody350ep1 2 года назад

      I was thinking that exact thing as I watched this. It is also 3 points of contact then which will never wobble and saves fittings and materials. Did you build one to try it, by chance?

    FRIGGING AWESOME BUILD. Just what I need, I am new to kayaking, bought a Feel Free 11.5 and need a way to store it. My only question is, do you know how much it cost total?
    Because I will be keeping it outside half the time (upside down), I am going to add screw rings to the top outside of each leg, so I can rubber bungee strap it down, the weather gets a little CRAZY in Arkansas.
    Thanks for your great builds and info.

  • @traviserickson1038
    @traviserickson1038 5 лет назад +1

    Hey TJ, I don't know what I did wrong, or if I did anything wrong at all... But I built these today and made sure to primer and glue. I waited until it was dry. Set my new Old Town Predator XL Minn Kota on it, and about 10 seconds or so after, while waking to the garage to grab a drill to start rigging it... CRASH!! 1 of the "Y" legs on each stand ripped right out of the 45° elbows and it crashed to the ground. Luckily I did not have the trolling motor consol in it or my electronics on it... Are these not supposed to support that kind of weight? Thanks for any ideas you may have.

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  5 лет назад +1

      Sounds like something wasn’t right, I’ve sat in mine on the stands... I don’t really know how much weight they will hold but pvc is pretty strong especially schedule 40 PVC, that is what you used right?

    • @traviserickson1038
      @traviserickson1038 5 лет назад

    Hello TJ - I'll soon buy a Hobie PA 14 kayak which empty weighs 120 pounds. Hobie estimates that the kayak would weigh about 140 pounds with gear inside. Do you think your PVC kayak stand will support that much weight? Thanks.

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  5 лет назад

      Kathy Dunn , Hey Kathy, thanks for watching my video. Yes it will definitely hold the weight, just to be sure to glue all of the parts together as you build them and be sure each part it straight when you glue them. Once they are glued, you’ll be surprised just how strong these are. Thanks again for the support and good luck with your project 👍🏼🎣🇺🇸

    • @kathydunn128
      @kathydunn128 5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the reply TJ - actually its Jim Dunn, Kathy's husband who asked this last question about weight limits on your PVC kayak stand. You were probably wondering why a female would want to fish out of a 140 pound kayak.
      Actually, if you knew my wife you wouldn't be surprised at all!!! I appreciate your advice. It should save me some $$$. I'm a subscriber to your videos. Keep um coming.

    Hey brother great video, I wanted to ask for your opinion regarding kayaks. You have the ascend from bass pro and now the sea ghost
    I’m torn between both. I can’t decide which one I want. I want the sea ghost 130 because it’s smooth for the water, but I like the space you with the ascend kayak. I love the new prewire ascend. Awwww I can’t decide
    Help

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  6 лет назад

      ocrushjam , the ascends are nice but the Vibe is by far the better boat in my book, I've used both for a long time. You'll quickly find out that the large deck space in the Ascend isn't usable, the Vibe 130 however has a ton of actual usable space plus, built in rudder, built in transducer spot, it tracks better, way faster comes with a paddle.... Lol I can keep going....🤙🏼

    Unless im seriously off with my numbers..I believe it only takes 2 8ft sticks to do this.. not 3 10ft pieces... 4x24 equals 8ft and 1 4ft piece and 32 inches is less than 7ft with over a foot to do the 2 3/4 piece.... unless you're taking 3x10 to do both sets?

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  4 года назад +1

    If we order off your gear page does that help you

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  6 лет назад +1

      C Herzog , Yes ( very little LOL ) My gear page, Kit.com/kayakusa is mainly just links to everything I use in my videos or my personal gear. If you use my links from my page, I do get a very small percentage of the order from Amazon ( you pay the exact same of course ) my links are just shortcuts to the items on Amazon and Amazon has trackers in my links letting them know that the items purchased was from my page. So, if you use my page to get your gear I do appreciate it ! 👍🏼

    This looks like a great project. Does the strap ever slide off the top of the “Y” side of the stand where it is just looped around? Would it be useful to put a single screw through the strap on that side to make sure the strap stays in place there?

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  6 лет назад +1

      Brandywine Angler , it does slide down but it's not an issue really, the reason for not screwing it down is , if you use it for different kayaks the webbing needs to be free to move for different shapes and widths. Hope this helps and thanks for watching🤙🏼

    • @KayakUSA1
      @KayakUSA1  5 лет назад +1

      No... I'm sorry but that's incorrect. The kayak rests on both straps with hardly any weight. I could keep this kayak on theses stands for 30 years and it would not hurt the kayak at all..
