I’ve been binge watching deadliest catch. Wow! I had no idea how knowledgeable Captain Keith Colburn is or that he started out as a chef! So cool! I’m definitely going to use his tips on breaking apart my king crab next time I eat it.
POLARTTYRTM Exactly some people doesn't done deal well under stress, after all its the most dangerous job in the world! I'd love to see those disrespectful pricks do his job!
Ok this vid is six years old. Not sure why it came up on my main page. I'm a diehard DC fan and Capt Keith answered questions i've had all the way back from Season 1.
This was really cool, and informative to watch, wish I would have watched it sooner instead of passing by multiple times… I love watching Deadliest Catch, been watching from the very first season… I never knew Keith sold crab to directly to Kroger grocery store like this, thats freakin Awesome!! 🦀🦀
He actually seemed interested in knowing the information, its great. You see the show and you don't even realize what kind of knowledge and thinking goes on behind the scenes that never even get approached.
I would love to come over from Scotland and meet anyone of these Deadliest Catch fishermen. My dad was a fisherman in Scotland whose ship broke the record catch on its maiden haul. For more than 30 years it was the top hauler in Scotland. My dad and the crew got their pic taken with the Queen in Aberdeen as they were so successful
WOW! I had no idea Keith was so knowledgeable. I mean in a way it makes sense, but you never see this side of them on the show. Keith's attitude is completely different here than it is on the show. It was cool to learn a little about crab ecology that they don't really get into on the show. He forgot Bairdi though.
I've worked as an ironworker for a number of years and trust me; that intensity on the job is very common in the hard core trades. Come break time, and lunch break, the screaming foremen are as gentle as kitties. Its just a human tool to sometimes get the tough stuff done right. Nothing ever personal. I presume it's the same way on a crab boat
Pretty cool. I like hearing all the sustainability efforts. Sounds like they have a lot of rules and regs not only to help the critters survive but to preserve jobs and cultures. Its better for the environment to have crabs plentiful and its damn sure better for the fishers and crabbers to have them around year after year.
I wonder what happened with the friend. Did the friend get a job on the same boat with Keith? Where is the friend now? Are they still friends? Etc. That's what I would like to know. Keith could have opened a chain of restaurants of his own. Now I know how to get the meat out of the shell nice and clean. I always wanted to do that, cause I always hated having to crunch and dig through the shell, only to get bits and pieces of meat at a time, and then lose some of the meat still stuck in the shell, where I would be unable to get it. Thanks, Keith, for showing us how to do that.
He wielded that big knife with such finesse, can tell he's been a real good chef, top tip to get most meat out in 6 simple knife runs then crack it open... Voilla!
Since Kroger took over the pick n save chain in Wisconsin I wish they would get some king crabs in all they have is snow crab clusters I have to go to Wally world to get king crab legs and they aren’t that big for some reason I was going too ask why they fished snow crab in the winter but Keith answered that thanks capt
It really does have to feel weird when an Alaskan crab fisherman goes into a supermart and sees crab legs. Like one of those "That very possibly came from my boat." deals that you can never know for sure.
I will always remember how this Captain treated greenhorn "Dane" on The Deadlist Catch. Dane was the greenhorn that did not want a mohawk haircut and Keith let his "bromance" Freddy bully Dane. I ask if others eat the crab meat that is found in the joint or knuckle section, I do but it is not as good as leg meat.
I remember Dane, I don't get why he wouldn't suck it up and go with the mohawk, after all he was at the bottom of the totem pole, why piss off your new boss and crew, like cmon it's only hair, it wudda grew back, then didn't he try to suckerpunch freddy? Perhaps he had a death wish lol freddy is one mercenary you don't want to tangle with, ever......
I had no idea that the King Crab I buy at Kroger is the same crab I watch the crew of Wizard catch on Deadliest Catch. Keith, I'm glad to give you my money, but try to cut down on the amount of times you let yourself get angry. You're too good for the fishery to lose.
Alex ..... No , I just can’t do it ..l wanted to , but seeing them alive and just wanting to get away makes me feel sorry for them ..same goes for Lobster
Like Keith, only time I didn't like him is when Freddy was being a super asshole to a greenhorn, and nothing was done.Thats the only time all others I loved seeing this man.
From the Yukon in the east, to the far tip of the Aleutian Islands is how Alaska is measured when talking size. He was in the middle of the ocean discussing distances. No mention of square miles. He was referencing what 500 miles looked like.
LINKS-R-US lol google it. You would need more than two Alaska’s full sq mileage to even come close to half of the size of the contiguous lower 48 states. Its 1/5 the size actually.

fyi, doubtful you will get any good crabs at a store. you are better off with imitation. thats the whole point of going out for a nice dinner.. knowing its really worth the price
Love that man, he saved my life. Thank you Captain Keith.
I was at the particular kroger that day. I had the pleasure of meeting Capt Keith. A very nice man.
Eric Seay did he yell at his brother Monte, because he fired Monte
Because you don’t work for him.
He’s an asshole. True colours come with stress. Asshole
Did you know Keith is a trained chef?
@@TheAslakVind no he isn't
Love his little crab 🦀 drawing ✍️
One of my favorite foods, hands down. And so easy to cook. No seasoning, no spice...just ocean. Love it.
Yup. Make sure you season the water and you're good. Best bugs on the planet.
Try throwing so lemon and old bay seasoning in the water. You'll thank me later.

His technique works well for Dungeoness crab too
That map info was top notch informative 👍🏽👏🏽
Keith has always been one of the best advocates of the fishery
I just learned as much about crabs in 14 minutes as I have my entire life and I work in a professional kitchen. Keith definitely knows his crabs.
You know a man knows his work when he can draw a single fathom line in that kind of detail!
WHOA !! This was awesome 👌... Keith is a top notch guy!!!
Captain Keith has always been my favourite. Great vid. Watched the show a lot and didn’t know most of this info.
Wow ! I learned alot from Capt Keith , TY , great , informative video .
I LOVE cutting out the middle man. Kroger and Capt. Kieth, doin' it right.
Very informative, Cap’n Colburn. Thanks for posting!
He seems to be a very nice person when he is not under stress. He always was and always gonna be my favorite capt.
POLAR REally? I think he's one of the biggest assholes on the show as well as being a phony ass liar.
You find it odd that people have different opinions than you? :o
POLAR So he's nice except when "stress" makes him an asshole. Brilliant.

Great video Captain Keith!!! LOVE the show!!!
wow,,, very interesting. on the show you can't really see the knowledge these captains have
Very clear & interesting. Thank you.
It's so cool, guys like this are great!
I don't need this info since I am no crab fisherman; but since I'm fan of the show. I love to share this to friends over beer. Respect to this guy.
Surprised he didn't scream at the guy and tell him to get him a coffee
Shoves him down the bread aisle when he refuses
