I've always hated it that when you kill the guy who started the duel, and loot him, they start shooting like there were no tomorrow. Like I mean, I won, why can't I get my reward in peace? Lmao
That town is crazy. First time I entered Van Horn, I accidentally ran over someone with my horse and then they all started shooting at me like in the video.
When I accepted the duel the guy just fell over and died, didn't even have to shoot. It's amazing how this game continues to surprise you after all these years!
I did a duel in Van Horn the other day and my bullet went through the guy I was dueling and hit a bystander. I thought everything was fine until I started seeing all the red dots on the minimap.
That's because you miss your first shot . If you dont miss they will not shot. That case same with valentine duel, if you miss the shot, nearby npc will report it as "disturbing the peace"
I've not had this happen here but it happened to me in Valentine for the first time ever. I must have been in the valentine saloon dozens of times during my various play throughs and never once got bumped then challenged to a duel. I accepted and much to my surprised dropped him like a stone (I'm really bad at duels). Thankfully the town just ignored the situation and I was able to go about my day unshot.

I think Van Horn would've felt like a seedier place if you could attack or kill someone and nobody would care rather than instantly all turn against you like they're one big family. It makes sense here why they did but generally it should've felt more Thieves Landing from RDR1 imo.
@@TippedScale I agree with the OP. The game should have allowed an area like this for us to be full on bad without getting dishonor points, because doing the honorable thing all the time is boring! I want more action but still get a cool ending, and this game’s honor system limits that.

It's because you missed your first shot. In a duel you are not supposed to take more than 1 shot so the AI registered that as you shooting at the crowd. Normally people just ignore it when you win.
What's wrong with this town? I accidentally bumped into someone and they started a large fist fight, I ran away then everyone started shooting. Didn't make it out of there and lost $150, the most terrible experience ever. And I've already encountered two duelers when I was entering a saloon.
@@silasmerzenich I just read multiple comments that said no one attacked them in their playthrough when Arthur won the duel against this guy in Van Horn though. I think it may be a bug too.
I went in van horn to play blackjack for gambler 9 challenge and people fighting outside got drug in it KOed him in the bar and sat down played blackjack lol just learned about them going crazy there I just got lucky lol unless being John with maximum bad honor stops them from attacking u
I interfered on a random encounter of a guy trying to drown a lady’s face in tub of water. I stopped him (and I did so in a successful way where I didn’t shoot him or hurt him at all), and _THAT_ started a civil war too! They even protect wife beaters there! 😡
Speaking of duels, in recent playthroughs the duel across from the butchers in valentine the guy that gets shot suddenly rises back up from the dead and then both npcs start shooting at me -_- no idea why
i just did another duel after the main story finished, shot the guy in the head once and had to kill the rest of the town before i was able to get away.. such a shame
i accepted this duel and hit the guy in the arm and nothing happened. maybe you got attacked because you hit him with another shot in the chest after the duel had already finished.

This is what I find interesting about Van Horn they don't have a sherrif because they don't need one you cause trouble the whole town will target you

Dueling used to be a socially acceptable thing, but looting never was.

if you use one bullet to shoot the gun out of his hand you don't get attacked. more than one bullet and you're fighting your way out

When you planned for one kid but got 2
I did that duel and I ended up killing the full town since they all started to shoot at me after the duel.
That's my solution--just kill the whole town.

In normal cities Duelle are accepted
For me in Valentine the duellist is too drunk to fight and just collapses
