Great video! Very helpful for a noob like me.
BTW the increase in effective thickness happens because, when the armour is sloped, a projectile travelling on a flat trajectory has to pass through a greater cross sectional distance to penetrate. For example, a tank with 100mm of armour sloped at a 45 degree angle effectively has to travel through 141mm of armour to penetrate. But yes, deflections are also more likely to happen increasing the armours effectiveness even more.

One note: the blocks around the gun barrel on T-34's and KV-1's are actually thinly armored and easy to penetrate. The problem is that guns are so insanely inaccurate ingame that you rarely can hit it outside of very close quarters. I've found it better just using large HE to kill KV-1's and larger soviet heavies until unlocking the tiger/panther, which is annoying because the Pak/Kwk40 historically had no problem dealing with KV-1's but struggle ingame.

I really needed this. In all my German conquest enhanced playthroughs the bane of my existence are the T34s and KV1s. I had to retreat in my last game because two T-34s obliterated 4/6 of my panzer III and IVs. And I was only at the first sector with 2 more to go.

The German "square" tanks with flat armour have a hidden feature - you turn them 45 degrees to the side and lo and behold - sloped armour on the hull :D it actually does seem to increase the chance of a shell bounce, so that's pretty cool

    • @SirJellyBean

I believe the Panther had a frontal plate of 60mm sloped not 100mm other variants had less and others a bit more. Later variants having a similar front plate were actually weaker due to lesser quality alloys due to resource shortage. In some cases the armor would shatter from a hit rather than being penetrated

    • @SirJellyBean

Not being a hater , I actually love these ww2 direct control RTS games , but the tank combat is so off to me , not because of the armor models but because of the distance you're fighting at . That goes for everything that can shoot in the game pretty much . Being able to only shoot at ~200 meters and slighly further with arty is so wierd and it feels like the penetration drop off at 200 meters is more like the penetration value you'll get at like 2 km away . Bouncing a t34 with a long 75mm panzer 4 gun at 200 meters is a crazy concept to me it looks so stupid , and only being able to shoot the early 75mm howitzers at like 160 meters even tho they had a range of like 8 kilometers DRIVES ME INSANE , I hate the fact that I need to constantly move them , don't need them to shoot across the map but god dayum , I know that I'm asking for to much , and this is probably a me problem but hey , I needed to tell this to somebody :)
