I mean at the same time Poppit kind of had a point in that there's kind of a lot of bias going based on mains of the best players. In this instance it's pretty largely because Sonix is one of the best players in the world that Sonic's placed as high as he is.

It's crazy how much a tier list can change without even any updates.
They were making too many tier list without fight data and they were lumping a bunch of characters that didn’t see that much play together. I would argue that with still don’t have enough data, but this seems better.
It’s whatever the meta is. If some guy got top 5 with Pac-Man, he’d probably be top 10. Once the meta calms down and we see new people, it’s gonna dramatically change again
Puff was a low tier in melees younger years until mang0 and hbox showcased her potential
@@RainSpitter yeah probably the biggest example of this is Shulk. All these players were ranking him as a top tier based on the idea of this hidden potential he might have and now we've seen that nobody can actually pull it off he's dropped.
A game not updating makes making tier lists much easier because the game is at a static state that is why Melee changed so much over the 20 years

I think Shulk's matchup spread is overrated as well. A majority of the cast can just wait out the effects of Monado Arts by camping him out.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been banging on about this. Shulk is a bang average swordie, made decent by Monado arts. He's been talked about as a strong character made broken by them for years
Ganon now in his own tier, and K.Rool being brought down so much! Props to Poppt for showing love to the heavies with the invitational, cause the tier list sure as hell isn't.
It's almost like super heavies all suck except zard (by suck I mean they're mid tier or lower). Most normal heavies are pretty good though
Krool is not bottom 4 idc. He's BAD, but he's way better than bottom 4.
@purplecoffinman8510 I think it's a pretty fair placement. All the characters above him have had more competitive success, except maybe like Isabelle? But the players who would use her, usually just use villager so we can explain that pretty easily.

An important thing about the tier list is the fact that S tier now only consists of the top 10 instead of the top 19 like the previous list, the F tier is generally larger, and there is now the existence of the E tier. This can make direct 1-to-1 placement comparisons a little awkward cause the effect is that characters can be similar in placement, but still in a different tier. For example, Hero is one of the 6 characters completely unchanged in placement in comparison to previous list, but he is now in B- instead of B+ like the previous list. Nothing too significant; just something important to note.
I do like the S tier being smaller and more concentrated; felt like the comically large S tier from the previous list was a little bloated. I also felt the low tiers was a little too small in the previous list as well.
One last thing is that Bayonetta had by far the largest jump in the tier list from the previous list: +19 spots. Lima, Bloom4Eva, and other prominent Bayonettas getting improved representation and results in both regional and major events, is definitely the main factor here. She has come a long way since the launch of Ultimate.
I think the top heavy tier list makes sense, Ultimate is about as balanced as a game with close to 100 characters could be. Heck, even the current list is more of a "who's played the most at top level" tier list than a viability one
the comically large s tier makes sense though when you look at each of the characters in there, they all feel like really strong viable characters
I know this list is controversial, but Mewtwo being placed in D is absolutely mental.

Bro I hate to say it, but it’s really not mental. I secondary Mewtwo and this fat boi has atrocious disadvantage state and gets hit by things that would never EVER hit any other character other than maybe Bowser. Even his combos and zero to death potential is quite low compared to many characters higher on the list.
I used to think his speed and projectile made him automatically really good, but ultimate just has too many better characters and I think the placement is pretty fair, maybe C tier but no higher

Mewtwo main here. I think that if we saw someone develop his skills, mewtwo could be moved up an entire tier or so. Playing mewtwo well can make him feel like a top 20 character, but playing him badly and he feels like bottom 10. Loads of untapped potential to be explored. The tail hit box is obviously mewtwo’s main setback, turning off others from playing this character.
Mega Man is slept on, he should not be that low
Agreed. Sadly, he’s just very unpopular and underrated. His moveset takes some practice to get the hang of, but he's very fun to use. I just started playing online recently and I won more games with him than Mario (and I didn't camp).

So full disclosure I'm very biased, because I've played the character in every smash game, but I think Yoshi being number 14 is based.
When Ult first came out I thought Yoshi was a solid mid tier, but felt like he had a lot of the same flaws as his Smash 4 counterpart, but the longer I've played him in Ultimate the higher my opinion of Yoshi gets. At this point, I'd place him between top 15 and top 10.
Sonic being Top 2 is the real surprise to me. I knew G&W would have a big rise and predicted Top 3, but Sonic being considered that good feels off. I was personally surprised in the first Tier List when he was Top 5, cuz I personally felt he was Top 5/Top 10 but wasn't sure if others felt that way.
Top 2 just feels like player bias cuz he's one of the most hated. He's definitely at least Top 10 but due to the meta being stally games, I think that's what makes him seem that good. If the meta changes, people will realize he's not THAT amazing, and CERTAINLY not better than Steve in any way.
People can finally agree with me when I say Corrin is gopd, I've been saying it for years & they're finally placing higher on tier lists

Yeah, I think this list is more of a preferred player list. I'm just a casual player but my go-to character is ROB and he makes me feel/look 10x better when I play with him. When I tried someone different, it just didn't feel the same. I have a friend who plays with Kirby and he’s a beast with him. So I do think it's a preference base.
Well this is really an official OPINION tier list, and not necessarily a stats tierlist so I probably couldnt care less. Especially when I dont agree with some of the placements

We don’t matter and for all intents and purposes we also more or less don’t exist to these people. Either you play Smash at a high end competitive level or you dont play Smash.

No matter what people say in the SSBU game, seeing Steve and his variants that are basically like him (Alex, Zombie, Enderman) DOMINATING everyone is super hilarious and funny. Only very good and fast players such as Sonix with Sonic were able to beat Acola with Steve, (the best in the world with a Minecarft character)... really, Minecraft characters are Blockies Menance.
Sephiroth jumping from A+ to B+ is insane to me, he has such insane edge guarding, 1 wing is insane, and his kill power is nuts too.
Also on final stock he can easily use octoslash to drag off the map at pretty much any % if u knock to the edge

mewtwo crazy underrated in this tier list ngl, he isn't a great character (around C+ imo) but his tool kit is insane and remrin reverse 3-0'd leo while having room for improvement (with footstool disable, TP cancels, djc stuff)

I love that most of these placements also have a nagging 'yeah, but what about...' especially in the low-tiers. That's a sign that the roster is pretty balanced!
I feel these should be called player tierlist instead of character. People don't really know who's good or who's not to play. They just look at one or two players and think a character is broken mean while everyone else can't win one tourney with that same character

I think what we all need to take away from this is, it doesn't matter where a certain character places in someone head. You play smash because you love the uniqueness of it, you shouldn't have to care what people think of your character, as long as you enjoy the game. That's really all that matters

I noticed Ryu has surpassed Ken, which surprised me since I only heard people saying Ken was better (even though I always preferred Ryu)
Most FGC character in Ult are held back by poor coding with the way auto turn and special cancel is implemented into the game as well as their increase hitstun making SDI much easier, it is theoretically possible to SDI out of kens shoryuken 100% of the time although harder than sdiing jab jab power dunk for example, given the fact that shoryuken is kens only reliable kill confirm where as ryu has tatsu it makes ken much worse. Also ryu has a functional hadoken which is a large part of his neutral and ken does not have that luxury
Ridley should be way higher. He has everything you would want in a heavy. He has a comand grab, a projectile, a extra jump and good mobility. Yes he has some flaws, but he also has a lot off things going for him. Plus some people can play him really well, like smub.
He can also edgeguard many characters.

Man DK still getting so much hate after how much he’s improved with Chunky placing high at multiple majors and Hikaru placing 3rd at a major beating Gluto and Bloom. Chunky even discovered an oos option for DK which was shown on gimrs channel he definitely at least needs to be in C tier

@@StrangeKitten513 I agree, Incin is nasty and what Skyjay has done is amazing, I dont think he’s 2 tiers better than DK. Chunky has beaten alot of top players with DK and Hikaru beat Gluto and Bloom and got 3rd at a major. His advantage is insane downtilt combos to anything and when it trips you can kill with a grab or punch. He also has upB oos which is amazing if you can master it
@@StrangeKitten513 Chunky beat Jackyls Wolf twice too! Chunky spent hours and hours into mastering DK finding so much potential that nobody else saw. Like upB oos he did a whole video on it and it beats so many moves including Palus nair and Foxes dair. I would definitely agree with DK in C+ and Incin in B- I think thats fair with the results DK gets he should definitely be higher even K rool is disrespected here I would put him where DK is now!

I kind of disagree with Yoshi's placement, like most of your reasoning with Wolf dropping down I think Yoshi has some major weaknesses that should have him lower. Not only that but Yoshi has some pretty bad matchups against characters like Samus and Roy. Overall I'd put Yoshi a low A tier high B tier, they are broken online but have some pretty cheesable weaknesses that can be exploited.
While there is some truth to what you are saying, I think your opinion come mostly from playing against mediocre Yoshi players. I'm one of those so my opinion will obviously be biased ^^.
(TLDR: Yoshi's weaknesses are not that bad in comparison to his strengths, so a top15 placement is not that crazy IMO)
Low to intermediate yoshis will tend to be over reliante on his air game, won't space things properly enough, and won't abuse movement techs that make his air mobility shine and recovery great. In general, we tend to play really predictably because of that, and are easily subjected to whiff punishes and out of shield options. A high to top level Yoshi, however, know how to play around the character's weaknesses, making them not as major as you might think they are, with less predictable movement options and better mixups when approaching.
When it comes to match ups, Yoshi doesn't have that many bad ones in comparison to most of the cast, and none of them are actually absolutely terrible. Like sure, Roy, Aegis, Samus and such give Yoshi a hard time, but they are not unbeatable by any means. Yoshi doesn't have any unwinnable matchup in my opinion, which is a clear strength when it comes to bracket performance, especially considering he is one of the most solo mained characters.
Finally, let's talk about his strengths. Really good ground mobility. One of the best, if not the best air mobilty. Great recovery when mixed up properly. Insane kill power. Really good frame data. Crazy damage potential with his great combo game, lots of his combos being easy to execute properly even under bracket pressure, which is a plus. Great Edge guarding, decent ledge trapping. Being almost a mid heavy weight, giving him great survivability when paired with his double jump superarmor (frame 1 combo breaker btw). Has two shield breaks, has a command grab. His grab game is not nearly as terrible as some people think. Great platform and shield pressure when the yoshi space things correctly. can easily put his opponent in tech scenarios, and capitalize on that. One of the most versatile projectiles with his Up B, which Yoshi can take full advantage of with his air mobility. Really good out of shield options while being impossible to shield poke, which is rarely a weakness. Finally, harder to pull off techs, combos and setups that top Yoshis are still getting better at implementing.
I swear, sometimes, playing Yoshi feel like playing a zoner, a rushdown and a heavy all at the same time ^^. A top 15 placement might be warranted, and I was pleasantly surprised that the top players which participated to this tier list agreed.
Yoshi being above Palu is insane. Also insane Samus is above Palu.
I'm honestly surprised aegis didn't drop further. She's the new shulk where everyone says how broken she is but solo aegis just isn't getting results. Getting a free zero to 40 just isn't impressive when we have steve and fox and game and watch up there. Who knows, maybe someone will come along and actually make it work, but for now I feel like top tier players tried her out and put her back down without any crazy results.

Sonic and Steve being so high up because they can super effectively camp and avoid people really speak volumes. I'm not a fan of restrictive playstyles, each character plays to their strength and that's fine, but when playing to that strength is by not playing to win by a technicality, or by deciding the flow of the match entirely by playing as passively as possible against opponents who can do very little, I just think it should be punished by the rules in place.

I think you're exaggerating, if the top level Steve and Sonic players weren't able to fight well they'd be a couple tiers lower. I think last year less than 10 games in high level went to sudden death, playing opportunistically ≠ camping out the timer.
Also in no world is Sonic S+ there are like two players that do really well with him, the tier list is biased af to begin with 😭

@@QuokkaWaka There’s a decent amount of great Sonic’s. Ken, Wrath, Teikei, Kels, etc. The tier list is definitely biased, but I can at least see the precedent for Sonic being S+.
@@QuokkaWaka I don't think having to go to sudden death is necessary, it's a possibility you can do when you have the power to drag the match out in its full duration, but the ability to control the pace by setting up as much room, or as many barriers as you want, without contest, that's a problem. To get through steve's blocks, you gotta either go over, wait for them to decay, attack them or go all the way under and around the map, every option puts you in a very predictable situation he can account for. Sonic can just out space you and engage only when he wants or when you make a mistake, giving him a straight up advantage. Sonic does lack a lot of the strengths that make other characters top tier but his homing attacks and speed are more than enough for a high rating even without the campiness. It's not a coincidence that the 2 highest rated characters have something in common: They're the best at controlling the speed of the match most reliably.
Does anyone think there will be one more patch that possibly balances everything out slightly better or no way and theyre done patching?

Feels like the tier list has become heavily dependent on how well said character handles the top tiers (steve and sonic). If you suck in those matchups, it almost doesn't matter how good you are against the rest of the cast.
