    Hopper grew into a fine actor. At the time he worked in Rebel & Giant, James Dean was light years ahead of him in terms of a natural yet imaginative style. Dean was incredibly gifted with an acute magnetism.

    @chuobio - Dennis Hopper was the best in the world at his craft combining as he did the 'method', 'vital acting' (which was what the 'method' was trying to achieve ie complete by-pass of mind\memory) and 'traditional' acting (the graphical interface of acting) - when he met James Dean I think he realised that James was more 'vital' than him and so set about trying to incorporate it into his craft - Pacino was probably No.1 in the 70s for a while, but pound-for-pound I'd go with Dennis Hopper

    he speaks the truth about acting, but the way in which he words it is almost incomprehensible

  • @sanjuz
    @sanjuz 13 лет назад +2

    @chuobio - once you accept the real world you then just act out what the script requires - what emerges from you 'in that moment' will be more spontaneous, more 'authentic' and more likely to come from your self\soul rather than your mind\memory - it is more likely to be fresh and convincing albeit unfamiliar to the viewer's expectations - the whole idea of 'method acting' is to try and by-pass the mind\memory\habit to achieve a greater degree of realism and 'truth'

    I guess one of those movies I have seen more times than any other was " Rebel"
    They were all fortunate that Nick Ray was their director. Originally , Rebel" was shooting in b/w I think David Weisbart and others, after seeing " East of Eden" re did what they had in color..and proceeded onwards. Its just that this film captured a place and time better than any other film...

    I absolutely love Method acting, and miss it. I wish there were actors today, like Jimmy Dean (my all time hero), Monty Clift, Paul Newman, and Dennis Hopper. Their styles were pure magnetism. Dean and Lift used to look into people's souls when they spoke to them on screen. It was mezmerising. We'll never see the likes of them again. RIP all those great men. ❤❤❤❤❤

    extremely profound comments -
    1. "do, don't show" means relax into your real self
    2. "avoid matching" means live in the real world rather than constantly translating between your mind and the real world
    3. "reinforcing" means that doing 2. helps you do 1.
    is it Dennis or is it the RUclips commenters that are on drugs?

    The greatest actors do actually act they just learn to be .Becoming another character is a state of being .The best know it ,in hollywood alot of film actors get chose because of types.So its not always the acting abilities they go for it might have more to do with the look.They are trying to market for that particular movie.This is why i laugh when people say that acting in film is and art form.Actors are salesmen and craftsmen like bob villa minus the tool belt.

  • @leejee88

  • @aashiquistudios
    @aashiquistudios 13 лет назад

    @sanjuz Ahahaha I think it's just part of the thing. I was surprised at how many people commenting on this video actually get what he's talking about. Look at an interview with almost any similar actor - J.Depp, Pacino, Daniel Day-Lewis - and it's always impossible to understand what they're talking about, unless you have some context or experience or understanding of your own to frame it in. It's just part of the thing, really.

    Blasphemous or not, I think Dennis was twice the actor than Dean ever was. I like Dean and obviously he gone too soon. Hopper directed groundbreaking films and played groundbreaking roles. He always seemed humble. Even blamed himself for upsetting Brando during the set of Apocalypse now. Brando got million dollars a week for chilling out with Coppola having his ego massaged. Hopper is underrated. One of the best character actors ever.
