Sashimi is expensive stuff so you weren't ripped off sure.. Even for korean, it is a special treat for occasions. Fish soup you had at the end is included in the meal set you paid. They made it out of the fish you had as sashimi.
1. Ssamjang is characterized by the harmony of the savory taste of soybean paste and the spicy and sweet taste of red pepper paste. Mostly suitable for vegetables or meat. 2. Chojang is made by mixing red pepper paste and vinegar with garlic, ginger, and other auxiliary ingredients. In Korea, it is often used when dipping sashimi. The fish that the two of us ate is a reasonable price. In addition to fish, other foods are basically available, so it is not expensive. Eating sashimi at the beach is basically expensive because you eat while watching the scenery. If you eat sashimi in the city center, the price is cheap, but there are many places where the freshness is low. The soup is made by simmering small pieces of meat from the head and bones of the remaining fish after trimming the fish to order, along with a spicy sauce. This is included by default in the price you order. Some restaurants in remote places have delicious food, but if possible, the taste is basically guaranteed to some extent in places where restaurants are gathered. And sashimi is something even Koreans like and dislike. ** On the east coast of Korea, sashimi is good, but red snow crab / king crab / lobster, etc. are also popular. **
Thanks for explaining all of this. It gives a lot of context to our experience in the video. We had no idea it was customary to get that soup for free! That’s pretty cool
I really enjoyed your video. Those food looks really good!! Your expressions on trying munggae was hilarious lol. btw this video reminds me of my childhood when my dad pushed me to try munggae while i screamed and cried not to eat one. I hated it for the same reason, awkward looking and slimy taste haha. but now i love munggae, everytime i go for 회(sashimi) i eat munggae. Many Koreans say that munggae has an 'ocean taste'. Its hard to explain but once you get more used to it, you'll probably understand. Overall I really like your videos. I'm very surprised that you guys are experiencing the 'real' Korean food and culture unlike other tourists. I really like you always try to analyze and make a guess on what you are experiencing. As Korean I think I can understand what foreigners might think about them. Hope you guys stay happy and safe. Thank you for enjoying and trying our food and culture.
She didn't "up-sell" you the soup. It comes with the sashimi you ordered because they make the soup out of the edible parts of the fish after the sashimi is filleted off. Just to let you know.

The cold soup was a delicacy indeed. It tasted delicious. It's good to know about the rice and the hot soup. We aren't used to getting a free soup after ordering sashimi, so we were caught off guard by that, but it is nice that they offer it!

Who else loved, died laughing, during the meongge monologue!?! Hilarious, and then the gloriously honest kicker about the "after taste". So funny. I haven't laughed that hard in some time. Well done. And yeah, Korean hwae is an acquired taste. I, too, had to realize that it was an apples-to-orange comparison with sashimi. Koreans prefer their raw fish to be more dense and textured (and with their meat dips), while I'm more accustomed to the buttery taste of Japanese sushi and sashimi especially as it pertains to tuna.

I remember one day I visitied randomly a restuarnt in remote France. and ordered a cow liver steak. Ouch, i couldnt eat at all :"") I tried but really i couldn't. I felt so sorry to the owner. U might remember the meal so long after :"") But, WTH, finally, the travel is all remembrance. Hahah.
I agree :) it’s all about memories like these and pushing yourself to have unique new experiences
welcome to korea!
Thank you! ☺️
@@20CamelsEmily Very good, excellent !
The flat fish is called a Fluke. Most likely the sashimi you had was raw fluke.
One thing you know is that first eating of 멍게 is not good, but one day you want to eat again, that is unusual from my experience.
Haha yeah, I'm open to trying it again. I had a feeling it was an acquired taste
뭔가 한국인이 여행가는코스를 외국인이 하고있는 것 같아서 너무 재밌습니다 ㅋㅋㅋ 멍게(the red thing)는 한국인들도 싫어하는 사람들 많아요 하지만 it is sea taste ㅋㅋ with soju there is heaven
Just a friendly education; when you order the sashimi that Tang (soup) comes with it automatically without any additional charge.
All the restaurants in Korea serves like that.
Monggae is one of my favorite seafoods.
Have a good trip.
I live in San Francisco and planning to go to Korea end of November.
Greetings from Philippines 🇵🇭😊
Greetings greetings! 👋🏼
Nice
Who else loved, died laughing, during the meongge monologue!?! Hilarious, and then the gloriously honest kicker about the "after taste". So funny. I haven't laughed that hard in some time. Well done.
And yeah, Korean hwae is an acquired taste. I, too, had to realize that it was an apples-to-orange comparison with sashimi. Koreans prefer their raw fish to be more dense and textured (and with their meat dips), while I'm more accustomed to the buttery taste of Japanese sushi and sashimi especially as it pertains to tuna.
oh.. poor you! 😢I really like eating " Meongge(sea squirts)" 😬Even Koreans have different likes and dislikes about sea squirts. Also usually spicy stew(매운탕) is included.
