She was a 96-year-old lady who has recently lost her husband, endured several family crises and scandals, overcome multiple health issues and still showed up for work and put in quite a lot of overtime. While it is absolutely a sad time for her family, she had every right to bow out and get some peace at last.

I am American and I just feel so sad. I'm tearing up off and on. She was just remarkable. I was thinking back on her life, from the London bombings, being a mechanic, and all the happenings in the world and in her family, and she just did her duty, as she promised all those years ago. I was 7 years old when she had her coronation. I remember it was on the radio in our kitchen. It didn't mean much at that time but I'm so glad to be a part of that history. I just never thought of anyone else on the throne. I was concerned with her last appearance on the balcony. She looked lovely in her light blue suit and hat but also looked very frail and almost shrunken. I realized, at that point, that she would not be here forever. I have a very clear memory of February 6th 1952. I was just past my eighth birthday. Our classroom was on the attic floor of a large old house. There was an old lady, Mrs Wass, who was the “dinner lady” and on this day we suddenly heard her wailing and gasping as she came puffing up the stairs to our room, burst through the door, and said “The King is dead! Long live the Queen!” before collapsing to the floor in floods of tears. Our teacher, Miss Greaves, had to help her to a chair. We got sent home early that day and it was the first time in my life that I bought a Newspaper.

Wow. She is a major part of world history and has been the Queen for as long some most of us have been alive. A woman adored around the world. I know that she is 96 but like many I expected her to live for a few more years at least to 100. It's unfortunate that she will not get to see her son ascend to the throne. I always wondered why she did not step down sooner and pass the throne to him during her lifetime but I am sure that she had her reasons. No one will ever reign as long as she has outside of an unexpected tragedy similar to how she took over at such a young age. She is truly the end of an era. However I have always felt and believed in a deep kinship between the U.S. and the U.K. I remember staying up all night secretly watching news coverage of Princess Diana’s death. I was 10 years old but it felt so personal and significant to me for some reason. I feel the same feeling today. We may have rebelled against the crown and earned our freedom but that doesn’t take away the connections we share historically. We wouldn’t exist as we are if not for Great Britain and if I were ever to swear allegiance to a crown it would be the British crown. We your American cousins share your grief today. Her Majesty the Queen has always been at the forefront from after World War II until today, and has lived through tumultuous times. I'm from the U.S. I was just looking at a picture of the Queen, and she just looked like a normal grandmother. I was just thinking that the Queen was born almost a year before my grandma was. My grandma was a poor farm worker's wife and a nurse's aide for many years. Even though the Queen and my grandma led vastly different lives, I sort of wonder if they would have hit it off if they had met. I'm sure she had some skeletons in her closet. No monarch/politician/human being is perfect. But let me just say that in my eyes, she was truly iconic. While this is undoubtedly a historically significant event, can we please for a second separate the figure from the person? She was a 96-year-old lady who has recently lost her husband, endured several family crises and scandals, overcome multiple health issues and still showed up for work and put in quite a lot of overtime. While it is absolutely a sad time for her family, she had every right to bow out and get some peace at last.

I am American and I just feel so sad. I'm tearing up off and on. She was just remarkable. I was thinking back on her life, from the London bombings, being a mechanic, and all the happenings in the world and in her family, and she just did her duty, as she promised all those years ago.
I was 7 years old when she had her coronation. I remember it was on the radio in our kitchen. It didn't mean much at that time but I'm so glad to be a part of that history. I just never thought of anyone else on the throne.
I was concerned with her last appearance on the balcony. She looked lovely in her light blue suit and hat but also looked very frail and almost shrunken. I picked up my sister from work an hour after the Queen passed and she immediately became Princess of Wales as Woody.EXE made an unexpected line of succession, my mother became Mummy, Princess of Wales. However I have always felt and believed in a deep kinship between the U.S. and the U.K. I remember staying up all night secretly watching news coverage of Princess Diana’s death. I was 10 years old but it felt so personal and significant to me for some reason. I feel the same feeling today. We may have rebelled against the crown and earned our freedom but that doesn’t take away the connections we share historically. We wouldn’t exist as we are if not for Great Britain and if I were ever to swear allegiance to a crown it would be the British crown. We your American cousins share your grief today. I'm from the U.S. I was just looking at a picture of the Queen, and she just looked like a normal grandmother. I was just thinking that the Queen was born almost a year before my grandma was. My grandma was a poor farm worker's wife and a nurse's aide for many years. I'm sure she had some skeletons in her closet. No monarch/politician/human being is perfect. But let me just say that in my eyes, she was truly iconic. It's just astonishing and admirable how devoted she was to her country. And on the top of that, she was so bright and vital at the age of 96?! Both of my great grandmothers died 10 years earlier, they could barely walk and couldn't think straight. Now compare that to the Queen. I just don't think there's any other monarch like her in the world, she was just one of a kind. Nowadays (and not only nowadays) it's just so rare to find a politician/monarch that cares so deeply about their own country. My deepest condolences to the British people and the royal family from Czechia. :( I'm pretty shocked. I was hoping she would at least get a chance to celebrate her 100th birthday. She deserved it.
