Wouldn't they just scale up themselves, when people would need more transactions? Then again what do I want to buy with Etherium? Daily commodities, like bread?
I think the comparison is less of a referendum on Visa and more showing that Ethereum will reach that point too, where you never have to think about the network fees. As far as what to buy, the first likely use case that's already happening are on-chain transactions sending money across country lines or interacting with on-chain applications. As far as buying daily things like groceries I wouldn't be surprised if this was possible soon paying from your phone. But it's also important to clarify that you can hold USD or whatever your local currency is in your ethereum wallet and then pay with this currency, you are just using the infrastructure of ethereum's network.
