I worked for a farmer at age 14 that milked cows on a small scale. We hooked the milking machines up while kneeling next to the cow. Looking at this modern day type of dairy does more than blow my mind! The efficiency is so evident that he was right. Don't try to save money on the building. Think long term.

      Hi Jay
We were a small dairy farm,70 cows.
We had a pipeline were we would hook upto,we had to go up between the cows(a pair)with a galvanised bucket containing a cluster, and pulsator.
Then tip the milk out of that bucket into a 10 gallon churn, with a funnel filter ..
Then wheel the 10 gallon churn down to the bulk tank..Great days..

As someone who hauls milk from dairy barn’s to various dairy processing facilities most of these places are feeding the cows a very precise blend it in mix of hay silage and various other nutritional additives to the cows feed to maximize milk production. Most places it is all about the maximum efficiency.

I'd agree but also large cow farms those fields very quickly get trampled to the point of just mud anyways and no feed value, taking up way more space than the traditional milk barn like this offers to be able to feed the cows on a field, and can't control their diets as easily. This is the most efficient way sadly.
