      Thanks for this video. Ive been thinking of graduate school but didnt really know where to start.I was really just focusing on the classes I was taking and graduating as a goal and didnt really know where to go and why.I also love history but all types.I can be jusrt as interested in agencourt as the aztecs of latin America. Like the nbooks Im reading range fromt he rise of ologarchs in russia, to the independent kingfom of Palmares in Brazil that lasted over 80 years, to Martin GIlberts the first world war, or aboutking leopold in the congo or the first Intifada. I just find intrest in many things.Also I just dont know what would I choose as a graduate school and why

      So sorry it took sooooo long to respond! I couldn't find the comment and I thought I had made it up! But I finally found it again! I am so happy that this video was helpful. I think its also important to know you don't have to have it ALL figured out when you apply. You can apply with one idea because it is the one that will make you more competitive, but once you get in and do your courses you can always change. In fact you can even change AFTER your exam process! So it is totally okay to have different ideas/passions/interests and there may even be a way to connect them all. When I applied to UCLA i wanted to study home cooks at the Philadelphia Museum Art and Now I look at Afro-Indigenous knowledge systems and museums in Brazil AND Mexico!!! So don't feel tooo much pressure trying to know what you will do, whats most important is finding a school that can support most if not ALL of your interests in some shape or form!

      Bri you are amazing.... i currently find myself studying Biochemistry here in Nigeria, I really didn't like this course as my first choice because I really liked Nursing.... I'm just confused,although I'm in my second year in uni.

    • @BrisaMarie
      @BrisaMarie  2 года назад

      Hi! That is totally a common and relatable experience! Luckily what you study is still relatively connected to nursing. Now idk how it works in your country, but if you finish your degree and you have the time and resources I'm sure the knowledge you've gotten from your current degree could be useful to pursue nursing. Or you may find an avenue that allows you to combine your passion! Our passions might change or maybe not... but its important to remember you ultimately are the one who gets the final say in what you do and as long as it makes you happy, it's the right choice!

    This is such a big help in getting started researching for grad schools. I'm a big organizer myself and I LOVE the spreadsheet idea but I'm so all over the place with my categories for the spreadsheet. Thank you so much!

      That us sooo understandable! It's a lot to take in! Also if you're still struggling with a spreadsheet I found this free template that could help from Dr. Choi.

    Hiya! Can you talk more about the different research styles available in grad programs? You mentioned looking for a program that includes visual analysis in this video, but what are some other examples? I also am not a huge fan of reading, but would want to gain research through experience like interviews perhaps. Not sure if that's even an option. Thank you!

      Hi! Soooo there are sooooo many options for methods and it would be hard to really explain them well in a comment. I do have this video on methods ( ruclips.net/video/UdPhSD-O4eA/видео.htmlsi=YUhWb-6TDM8Br8FQ ) but im not sure if it will answer all your questions. If you watch it and still have questions would you mind commented again. And that way I can try and make a follow up video that really gets into the weeds of methods to be more helpful?

    Doesnt your grad school program have to, by law, be related to whatever you got your degree in?

    • @BrisaMarie
      @BrisaMarie  Год назад

      Hi! I don't think there are any laws regulating grad school like that. Your undergrad can be completely disconnected/unrelated to your grad school degree. I had a doctor who got his MD and his undergrad was history. The only things that matter is that you meet their minimum requirements/pre-requisites. And for every program those things are different. A lot of ppl like to stick to something familiar but there are no strict rules.

    How do you finalize the top 5 colleges?

    • @BrisaMarie
      @BrisaMarie  3 года назад +2

      Hi! Depending on your ability to afford the application, top 5 would be the ones you actually apply to.
      So for me i sort of approached it like a tournament bracket lol so basically comparing two or three at a time and prioritizing the favorite of the cluster until you get a top 5. This will be a more holistic process where you take into account everything you care about! This should include some schools that may feel "easier" to get in but also competitive programs you want to strive for. Price and finances should also be taken into account. But the goal is to pick great programs and caste a pretty wide net!
