If you don't gave apple butter but have apricot jam or even irange marmalade, that might work as well. But this looks AMAZING. Might just have to pick up some puff pastry next time I go shopping
I alternate brushing some with apple butter (more than the picture) and half with carmel ice cream topping. Brush the apple tops with butter so the don't dry up

Made these with my grandma. Just an fyi, you should baste the tops of them with butter, milk or egg yolks to help keep apple slice tops from drying out to a weird texture. They were delicious aside from the weird half dehydrated top part.
I used more apple butter and basted the tops with melted butter before baking, sprinkled a bit of cinnamon, no sugar, and when done, I sprinkled with powdered sugar. So good! Thank you.

I did lemon for YEARS! One day, I didn’t have any lemons but I had some limes. Knowing it is the citric acid that keeps it from oxidation (turning brown) which you can also get from orange juice, I used the limes. SOOOO much better, sweeter. I rarely keep lemons these days but I have always got a few limes on hand. Try it!
With you there; I love lemons and limes, but limes take the merely tasty and makes them extraordinary - especially Key limes. And I've long made apple butter with cinnamon and spices, so I'll use that as well, which I think will take it up a notch. Persian limes are wonderful too, but I lived in Florida for 28 years, and had a small Key lime tree for over a decade, that was VERY productive. That's what I'll be using for this recipe.
If you soften the Apples in the microwave, you can also use the same "Apple water" to make a syrup reducing some of it with sugar over a stove, then use a brush to give the pastry and apples a glistening look 😁

Those are beautiful. 50 years ago my mom ,my aunts and several freinds would meet at a home for Tuesday Club. Some times they used their best linens and dishes and bqts of flowers. Your puff rolls would of been perfect . Thanks for bringing those loving memories back to me.
