    ok guys I get it, russ isnt top 10 of all time. I didn't take time to consider how many great pointguards the NBA has had in its history when I wrote that line in the script lol, its not that deep

      He stat pads when they're about to win the game so that 81% win percentage when he gets a triple double is false numbers.

      Rusty Buckets in terms of the best PGs of all time I've got.
      Tier 1: Magic
      Tier 2 (interchangeable you can rank these guys in any order and you wouldn't be wrong): Steph, Zeke, Oscar, Stockton
      Tier 3 (also interchangeable): Kidd, Nash and CP3
      Tier 4: Russ*, GP*, Frazier and Cousy.
      For the 9th and 10th spots, you can pick any 2 out of these 4 guys. That being said, I personally put Russ and GP leaving Frazier and Cousy on the outside looking in because they played in weak eras. They aren't big men like Wilt who would obviously dominate regardless of what era you put them. Russ however, you CAN put him in any era and he'll dominate. Same with GP.
      You aren't wrong with saying Russ is top 10. Worst case scenario he's right there at 11th or 12th and I'd REALLY like to hear someone who'd rank Frazier or Cousy over Russ without them saying "ThEy HaVe RiNGs!".

    This is a coaching problem. Why doesn't Billy Donavan point this out and fix it? Westbrook could shoot over 50% and be an all defensive player if he fixed his flaws. Let Steven Adams get the rebounds and just play defense.

      thats true but under both coaches hes acting the same way and doesnt even try to change his game for letting melo and PG get used to the offense and get settled in. All Westbrook changed from this KD to Melo was the triple doubles other than that he still takes wild shots still hogs the ball still has no off ball movement still is lazy on defense. It goes both ways coahcing and the player

    • @jonathanj7498
      @jonathanj7498 6 лет назад +5

      Bro what you said made no sense. lol. The best defenders are the players who play hard. theres no such thing as a player who doesnt try much but he was gifted with defense. you arent gifted with no damn defense. no one is born with defense. you get good at defense. how do you get good at defense? you play hard/try hard. Westbrook is one of the best defenders out there, he blocked durant several times (supposedly one of the great offensive players).

      cool dreams Westbrook plays hard when he have the ball in his hands. Westbrook is lazy on defense much like Harden been for years. Hell, Harden played better defense than Westbrook in recent seasons. Westbrook barely attempt to cut or move off ball. Also, Shaq been blocked by Nate Robinson.

    • @TheIcemanthomas
      @TheIcemanthomas 6 лет назад +7

      The Hip-hop Underworld Roberson had nothing tp do with russela effort. They were still good defensively without him. But most of that in attributwd to the consistency of PG and steven adams on that end. Melo is horrid as expected, and westbrook doesnt try all the time. Case and point, the jazz series. Rubio goes off pne game, and russ straps him up the next because he was mad at the attention rubio got. Why wasnt he locking him up to begin with? That big game from Ricky shouldn't have occurred.

    • @SirTaeman
      @SirTaeman 6 лет назад +1

      Jimi Hendrix Jr. Westbrook can flip the switch anytime and whose going to play real defense in the regular season. What he did to harden and KD in the regular season is how he did in the playoffs he wasn’t going for triple doubles then. If PG or Melo stepped up on the Utah game where pg had 5 and melo idek. They could’ve moved to the next round so you can see how he guards harden and cp3 in the playoffs. Heck go to 2017 and so on to see his defense.

    ok, a few things
    1. I said russ has the potential to guard 1-4, I meant 1-3
    2. when I said there is such thing as too much athleticism, I meant you can use to much of it at once and it can cause a miss if its out of control
    so yeah, enjoy why Russell westbrook is the most confusing player (at least in my eyes) in NBA history

    Westbrook is favourite player hands down, I love the way every time I watch my thunder he gives 100% effort. He excites me and makes me enjoy the game 10x more. He is so frustrating because of how great he is, but he could be wayyy better. I put him about 7th in the league right now but the hate he gets from people like Colin cowherd is insane and so undeserved. On the defensive end it is such a shame because if you watch the last quarter of the last Houston game against the thunder Russ LOCKS UP James Harden, but this I sadly so rare.

(2) he passes the ball up with open shot to get an assist right but wasn’t one of his flaws being efficient shooter ????? (3) he doesn’t have good defense yet averaged 1.5 steals huh? (4) Curry’s the better PG but how come in every stat Westbrook beats him. point assist rebounds steals blocks ..????? I think you missed probably the best piece of evidence that his rebounding numbers are empty calories: The team's REB% isnt any better when he's on the floor. If he's such a great rebounder, the Thunder should be getting a higher percentage of available rebounds. But they don't.
    Also a side argument is that he should be letting the bigs get the rebound so he can already be upcourt to get an outlet pass and push in transition. The whole argument that Russ should grab rebounds to go in transition is bad, because an outlet pass will always move faster than someone dribbling full court.

    • @TheRadFactor
      @TheRadFactor 6 лет назад

      That is not really correct. First, you have to look at rebounds against shots by opponents. If for instance, Russel's presence decreases the chance of the other team to shoot, or shoot uncontested, then his rebounding is more impactful. Also, if he makes the same rebounds but OKC scores more on transition from them, then his rebounding is more impactful. Another issue is points conceeded vs rebounds made. If the guy he defends scores less then against any other OKC player, then Russel's rebounds are more valuable than the other team mate.

      There were a bit similarity, but Wilt lost to historically greatest team ever, Russel lost to team led by rookie. That's a big and huge difference. Wilt is in conversation in GOAT even ego sometime is too big his efficiency is great and have a good is BB IQ. Russel Westbrook BB IQ is quite low (if his BB IQ is good he will be easily in conversaion of all time great PG)

      Feel bad for you. You had the talent for a decade to win several championships including this past season, and yes the Harden trade was a blunder, but Russ has been the consistent saboteur - purposefully or not - despite his unquestionable talent. I still am largely disappointed in KD choosing to join a team such as GSW and one that literally beat him the season before, but after this year's embarrassing first round exit despite having PG and Melo, it's clear Westbrook is the only negative constant and was a huge factor in his decision and I can't blame him for leaving.

    Basketball is a team game. Westbrook has not shown the willingness to participate without the ball in his hands. One would think after all these years he would learn that. Steph Curry is way better because he shoots, drives, cuts, screens, and rebounds. If you watch the Warriors play closely, he's almost always involved somehow.

    A decent argument with some holes. Don't really agree with the stat padding thing but you do make a good point about not being able to slow down. He does need to learn to dial it back when necessary. But the rebound thing makes them ultimately faster as he can get the ball quicker and move the down the floor quicker and get the chance for fast break plays.

    Everything you say is true, he has been the most frustrating player I've ever seen, in the 90's players would try to get space away from defenders to get open shots, hence the MJ fade away became so signature. Today, and Russ embodies this more than anyone, players drive into the paint slamming into defenders while shooting in order to get the and 1 call or 2 shots if they miss. That never would've flown in the 90's, it would've been called an offensive foul.
    I hope the league is starting to change this after Harden basically flopped his way to an MVP. But, back to Russ, Russ takes so many bad shots that it makes it so cringey to watch him, he will be double covered and still throws it up while flopping, he doesn't play defense because he wants to hang around for the rebound, he only plays hard on offense when he has the ball otherwise he stands around flat footed, he's a terrible decision maker and a stat chaser, that's not to take away from his crazy talent.

    • @douglasquaid1711
      @douglasquaid1711 6 лет назад

      Sure, I don't mean to demean Harden's talent, he's a great shooter, but he is also the flop god. Dude has been to the free throw line more than anyone the last 2 seasons. I hope the refs start to change the way the game is called, because it is becoming impossible to play defense against the floppers.

      Amelia Love Harris dude, your comment is spot on. I can definitely relate to him, even though he’s in the nba. Like u have stated, there’s just those types of players who are obsessed with winning, and at the same time hates losing. This type of mentality sometimes fazes the players judgment, which in turn may cause them to make poor plays. I don’t mind though lol. Russel Westbrook is so fun to watch!

    I’m a huge Russ fan and a Oklahoman. I agree and concede most of the stuff you have said except of the stat padding issues. He works hard and I’m positive he wants to get rebounds and assists. Even the example you gave of trying to get a assist he was getting the ball to the open man. Westbrook as a intense mindset and not the friendliest guy when it comes to the media. Russ is a amazing player and history will remember him as a all time great. He’s just became everyone’s favorite target because the world has turned into a place of hate. There are so many videos just like this about many players. For real, doesn’t everyone try to get there stats up. Do you think steph and Harden are not trying to score as many points as they can. Shooting up threes that the team doesn’t need to win the game.

    tbh he is solid, but his obvious stat padding is annoying.
    my ranking for PGs is the following (I'm including James Harden as a PG.. it suits him better than SG
    1. Stephen Curry. He has been the best PG in the league for the past few years now. stats may not show but if you actually watch the games you can see he impacts the games more than the others on this list.
    2. James Harden. He is extremely good at scoring at will, and he makes what does look easy. Only problem with him is his defense isn't great at all. 2nd worst superstar defending PG only in front of Westbrook.
    3. Russell Westbrook. Also seems to score at will, but takes very risky/low IQ shots. tends to crumble under pressure too.
    4. John Wall. Very good 2 way guard. great defense and superb offense.
    5. Kyrie Irving. this guy is a major threat with the ball with his fancy handles that can get past you in less than 3 seconds and his superb rim finishing that really is only second to Curry.
    Side Note. Curry is actually very underrated when it comes to finishing in the paint. dude is actually the best PG when it comes to this stat.

    I've had a problem with his shots at the rim for years...for someone so athletic, he misses A LOT of them because he's out of control or trying to flip up a shot over opposition that has very little chance of going in. Also, a lot of players in this modern NBA suck at moving without the basketball. They don't know what to do with themselves, in part because many of them only attended college for one year.

    He doesn’t stat pad rebounds as much as people say...... in 2013-14 season when the thunder had KD and Scott Brooks, KD and Brooks literally said that “ Russ takes the rebounds in order to jumpstart offense and and fast break” he is used to this game style, so they still play this way with Donovan, also his assists aren’t as inflated as many people think also.... he may force one or two assists, but most of his assists are actually justified......his defense can be amazing as you said in the video as evidence in the rockets game near end of season where he almost locks down James harden, he even won defensive player of the year in college, just when he made transition into nba, he started to be used as an offensive guard, and now he almost doesn’t worry about defense Bc he wants to focus on offense.... that’s not an excuse for his horrible defense, but if he tries on defense the 2016-17 team wouldn’t of been that great due to the players on it, but this years big 3 would of been much better Bc Roberson’s injury wouldn’t of taken that much of a hit on the team

      E WALL people forget that Harden was the 4th quarter PG the season they made it to the finals, not Westbrook! Harden was, and still is, the better decision maker. It was easy to hide Russell’s low-IQ, inefficient game under all of that talent but Harden’s trade and KD’s defection allowed that blemish to surface and engulf the whole, less-talented Thunder team like a black hole.

    As a 6'3 chubby white guy, with no jump shot, I can confirm defense is 70 percent effort. It's the only reason I ever saw court time at my small college.

    Wouldn’t you try to get 20 rebounds to average a Triple double? I agree everything with this video but the stat padding.
