Fire Emblem Character Spotlight: Soren

Soren (セネリオ Senerio, romanized as Senerio in the Japanese versions) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. He is the staff officer and strategist of the Greil Mercenaries. He starts out as a mage. Initially, Soren was suspected to be a Spirit Charmer - one who has made a special pact with the supernatural; in actuality, he is Branded - someone born with both beorc and laguz blood, and has experienced prejudice from both societies. Since Ike rescued him from starvation, Soren has been rooted to the commander with unwavering loyalty.

Bench warmer? And here I thought I clicked on a smart video
I love Soren. His back story and history with Ike always makes me wanna cry, and he always ends up my best mage. So sad to her you call him a bench warmer, though Ilyana is nice too.
He was my mvp in Path of Radiance, but in Radiant Dawn he was less usefull.
However, with vantage, adept and a thunder scroll, he was a beast, I used to use that long ass forest chapter to promote him.
Like you I really loved him. I loved his cynical approach to moral dillemmas and emotional reasoning.
I would always have him as sage by ch.9 Gallia and usually got him S thunder A wind B staff and C fire so he could use all long range tomes and physics as well as the 2 strongest tomes in game rexbolt and Tornado
How did you do that? I normally have both Soren and Ilyana on my team so she can use Rexbolt. But Soren is still my favorite character in the series. And I never got Sorens Fire Rank high enough to use Bolganone. The only character that can actually use that must be Tormod. I once trained him. He was good! OK, I save 1 armscroll for Alja, so she can use magic swords. I love to see her wreck shit!
I might be misunderstanding, but I'll try to give an answer. I dont think what makes Soren so popular is him using the big heavy tomes. The appeal of him is that his speed is so high that he can double almost anyone, doing the same dmg with a lighter tome. So you dont need him to rank up as much because he can use Elfire and get the same result as Ilyana or Tormod using Bolganone.

Mangs I'm not sure if you were aware of this but Soren has a unique conversation with General Petrine when you fight her using Soren... I can't recall exactly what they said to one another but it was something along the lines of them being the same (branded) and a certain connection that they have. In fact both Soren and Petrine have a sort of a resemblance.

You're probably the most... lively? colourful? out of anyone I've seen doing Fire Emblem LP's, and some of your voices are amazing! I've only watched (most of) the PoR LP, but I see you've got RD up as well as a bunch of others. Doing justice to Soren in a spotlight was probably the icing on the cake, to say nothing of your coverage of Hector, so here, have a like and a sub. Keep on doing your thing, sir.

I've only recently gotten into the Fire Emblem Series but i like the fact that when you do LPs you introduce the characters and explain what your doing and your voices are amazing. I would love to see Sothe, the savior of the Scrub Brigade, get a character spotlight.

The one spellcaster that I prize in both Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. I always reserve a spot for him in both games when I have control of him. He has an alternate ending in Radiant Dawn if he achieves A-Level support with Ike in Radiant Dawn. His true origins can also be revealed but one must play both games and make use of the transfer to do it. A-Level Support in Path of Radiance is the first step. Doing the same in Radiant Dawn is also required. During the whole thing, I also go to the trouble of viewing Ike's memory scene. That requires the Black Knight to be deployed in the Part 1 Endgame and then have him and Ike exchange blows in Part 3 Chapter 7 with both of them needing to survive. In the same chapter, I have Soren attack Micaiah by means of a Meteor Tome I lifted off of Calill in the Part 2 Endgame and give it to either Haar, Brom, Nephenee, or Heather. Part 3 Chapter 13 requires you to make a choice. The above mentions of both Ike's memory scene and Soren's origins can only be done on the second playthrough or higher. Pelleas will ask Micaiah to kill him. Second playthrough or higher adds a third option. These options are as follows: Obey command, Pass the burden to another, and Refuse Command. Choosing the third one has things play out similarly to "Pass the burden to another" but has Micaiah intercept the blow that was supposed to end Pelleas. This leads to Pelleas being an enemy unit in the Part 3 Endgame. The next step required to learn Soren's origins is to have him attack Pelleas in the Part 3 Endgame. Characters that you have controlled in a previous chapter that are currently enemy units will simply retreat upon defeating them. Same goes for Pelleas. He becomes a playable unit during the second turn of Part 4 Chapter 2. The next step however is in Part 4 Chapter 5. Having Pelleas attack Izuka. Best do that with the long range dark tome known as "Fenrir". After that, bring both Soren and Pelleas into the Part 4 Endgame. Make sure to view the base conversation before going into the final stage of said Endgame. This is the most complicated bonus of the game's story, but a very rewarding one in my opinion. I like the name "Soren".

After playing Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, I can safely say Soren is my 2nd favorite Greil Mercenary character. His backstory is so sad that it makes me want to hug him too 😢
Soren, man... I played Path of Radiance again a while back, and Soren just drops real world truth bombs left and right.
And unlike Leliana (who was seriously useless in my last Radiant Dawn playthrough -- somehow she ended up with as much strength as magic and had piss poor speed. . . Useless), Soren _always_ ends up so powerful!

Ross is a boss, hands down, best trainee, next for the spotlights, Ewan and Amelia can sit on the bench. (I already feel the hate flowing in the keyboards of the people)

+Glaceo Quaza I think most people can agree because of Ross's disgustingly early join time meaning he can stand toe to toe with soldiers without an issue where as Ewan and Amelia have to be baby'd until they are competent. If you are going to use a trainee Ross is the best without a doubt.
What did you say about Ewan? (I don't even know who Ewan is FE-wise. Which game is he in and where do you get him?)
Also, I agree. Ross is a boss and I just got Amelia so I don't know if she's too much better or not.

Soren is easily the best mage in PoR. It's not that Soren is good, it's that Ilyana and Tormod are bad. Tormod and Ilyana have almost identical stats to Soren at base, but they're 6 and 5 levels higher with lower growth rates and lower availability. Calill may be the best (besides a Soren promoted at 20), and Bastian requires no training at all, but neither get staves. Magic damage is so limited in this game and your mage options are so bad that it'd be a mistake not to use Soren. He's also the best healer since Bishops get no healing advantage and have lower stats. Rhys will get his ass doubled if he tries to use anything other than Light.
ehh.... no? All of Ilyana bases are bether. For example she starts with +2 speed, +2 magic and +6 hp compare to soren. Even if you get soren to the same level als ilyana (which i woudn't recommand, because of sorens awful performance at base), they are still tie.
And yes, soren beats her at the end of the game, at that point, both will double reliably and the +3 magic (on average), isn't a deal, because the late game is anyway super easy. You just want someone with high physic range (which ilyana has)

Think you can do a "Spotlight" for Emmeryn? I'm rather fond of her in Fire Emblem Awakening ever since I did my third run of the game. She also happens to be my number 1 "waifu". I'm not gonna explain that term. Only just picked up on it and I had to watch a "Top 10" of that done by Death Battle's "Boomstick" on the ScrewAttack channel. Since I brought up Emmeryn, I stumbled across a fan fiction story about her pairing with Male Robin known as "The Lady of Grace".

Morton Koopa Awakening and Interesting Backstory... Huh. For me, Awakening's characters (with some exceptions like Henry) are really one dimensional and their entire character revolves around their gimmick. The only awakening characters I liked were Cordelia (because I can relate to her shyness about love even though she's good at many things,) Henry (HENRY IS AWESOME,) Robin (Because Awakening did player created avatars right (unlike Fates)), Lon-Qu (He and Cordelia together remind me of my favorite literary character ever,) and... yeah that's it. I wanted to like Walhart but he felt like a one dimensional version of King Ashnard/Emperor Rudolph. Validar... not even worth the discussion. Aversa? Waifu bait with a cop out of brainwashing. Gangrel? Generic. End of rant

I'll never understand the Ike x Soren shippers. I mean people can ship whoever the hell they want, I myself believe Ike x Elincia should have been canon, but Soren and Ike aren't canon. I always saw them as best friends.
Trust me if you look into Kantopia its all not true. Soren set out with Ike no he ends off with him forging his own destiny and Ike ends up disappearing without a trace. Some believe that both Soren or Ranulf go with Ike but that never happened. Micaiah and Sothe do not end up romantic at the end of Japanese Radiant Dawn he goes back to Deain to support Micaiah. Ranulf is caught between a love triangle with Kyza and Lyre that he doesn't want to be a part of. Heroes have so far broken up some idea, Believe it or not, Radiant Dawn was a rushed game. The support system was bare-bones compared to its predecessor and the whole story was very complicated to understand sometimes. When they compare both their relationships it was more of a starving orphan that was given food as a starter. Praise Heroes with actual damn good translations!
