Vekoma retracks. Not the SLC ones, but the normal looping ones. I just associate the track with being painful, but while the retracks look the same: They are smooth as butter.

If I ride El Toro at all, for me it's usually an end-of-day ride as I'm prone to get headaches on it. It is quite an exciting night ride though so in a way it's a good one to end on when I visit during the fall.

Ever since it aged enough it's just been a mess with poor maintenance. If another park could close there intamin pre-fab model when it was suffering such issues, and reopen it feeling close enough to new/restoration well-done, then it could or could've been done for El Toro. They clearly have no clue what they are doing, only taking in the enthusiasts incredible rose-tinted glasses. I miss when it was actually awesome and not a mess. Post-2015 I would've never said anything bad about it. Clear it should be intamin who does a full retrack, or if it can be at this point (idk about the whole pre-fab thing and compatibility), just RMC it. It'd cost less in the long run, and you can keep it mostly the same while maybe adding in a couple inversions. Not that new texas giant isn't good because it is, but not sure if that would bring the draw if they couldn't say "Iron Bull" or whatever didn't change anything.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but Verbolten ruined me during my first visit to Busch Gardens Williamsburg in June of 2023. The speed at which the tight helix is taken in the dark after the launch into the show building made me feel like my head was being squeezed in a vice. It's a shame as I adore well-themed attractions most of all and I expected Verbolten to be my favorite at the park, but I found the forces to be too much and thought the ride had quite a rattle throughout. I hope it'll be re-tracked someday!

    • @Josephdavidson

The ride is fine and doesn't need to be retracked. When I was younger verbolten was one of the first rollercoastera id ridden. Left me scared of them for years. 8 years later and I'm a coaster enthusiast studying engineering to hopefully become a coaster designer.

So when I was a kid (I’m a decade older than y’all haha and grew up in the 90s) we rode The Rattler at Fiesta Texas last because it gave us all a headache. This was before it became iron rattler which unfortunately I haven’t ridden yet bc my kids are just now getting tall enough and into coasters but yeah it was rough and there was even a sign that said take off your earrings before ridding!!! We rode it last before going home and always took advil before getting on the ride because it lived up to its name RATTLER!! It didn’t stop us from ridding but it was a one and done at the end of the day. I grew up with Astroworld Houston so that’s how old I am and it closed a year after I graduated HS! Love y’all’s videos and my kids do too!

Vortex at Canada's Wonderland. Gave me a massive headache... Every transition is a headbanger, and then you slam into the final brake run and come to a complete stop in like 1 second. The trains then proceed to keep swinging back and forth for a minute before you can move forward into the station. The roughest coaster I've ever been on to this day.

For me the worst roller coaster that was almost always a skip was the original Gwazi. Every now and again me and my sister would try to convince ourselves that maybe its not as bad as we remembered and would try it again. MISTAKE! Got jack hammered so much that we always came off of it sore and with a budding headache. Honorable mention to Six Flags Stl for The Boss and Ninja. I went there a couple times while I was working in Stl and legitimately wondered if I was getting too old for roller coasters I hurt so bad. The only even slightly good coaster there is Mr Freeze with the batman being a distant second. Got so beat up that I didn't ride coasters again till I moved back to Florida. Never realized how good we have it here with Busch Gardens, Sea world and Universal. Not all of the Florida coasters are as amazing as Iron Gwazi and Velocicoaster but, practically any coaster from here would have a legitimate chance at being the #1 or #2 coaster at Six Flags Stl the lineup is so atrocious. They desperately need some retracking or the RMC treatment for most of the rides. Very disappointing park for how large the Stl metro area is.

El Toro is a painful disaster. The amount of enthusiasts and the whole "there's like one correct seat" thing. Those wierdly made Intamin trains. Then the park allegedly has spent lots of money to "fix it" but it's only band-aid fixes so it works but the ride experience is awful. In 2015, I would've never said this, nor in years before, and certainly not in it's first 5 years of being built. Pending the pre-fab situation, maybe by the time they want to get another coaster they can RMC it.
Would've been much better for the 50th anniversary to make a large, fun and insane but poorly kept together being restored essentially back to what it was meant to be. It's track is even similiar to what they do with retracking (RMC), so maybe they should've tried that instead of whatever nonsense they have been trying to pull off especially post-2020. Of course these morons can't even paint Nitro. But theyll fix the lights on the ferris wheel after who knows how many years (stopped counting).
P.S. I love wooden coasters, but this one just isn't going to beable to exist forever on it's current path. If it became basically a steel/hybrid then maybe instead of another filler coaster they could install a GCI in the future. Frankly a park as big as SFGADV should've had that on the to-do-list when rolling thunder was removed, and even with the pathway down to the drop tower there is plently of room over in that spot, unless the congo rapids area could be repurposed (or isn't too swampy).

I saw a video about Steel Vengeance in 2018 and wanted to ride it so bad that I drove from Austin, Tx to Cedar Point in August 2018 and I’m now trying to get as many of the major credits before I’m too old. I’ve learned to just skip the rides that I know won’t be worth the roughness and not care about the quantity of my coaster credits but rather the quality.

You wanna Read this one- So my home park is SFGA and we were going to Wistonsing dells and we always go to Noahs ark but I really wanted to get my credits on HADES 360. so we go in, go to the waterpark first, ride medusas slide wheel, ride some other slides then I go to ride this ride(Mind you I was and still am a rce to my core, also I was 13 now 14.) So as riding the pre-lift was all that I had to know about this ride, anyway right after the drop the second you go underground, I grayed out( literally never happens) then, basically,
The train was shaking like a malfunctioning massage chair
My chest and me were vibrating so hard I wasn't able to breath
it really felt like if someone put you in that malfunctioning massage chair then took one of those things you use to carve out sculptures out of rock, and pound that against your chest. after the first tunnel, we go out into the inversion and airtime hill, and back into it. at this point I don't think I have felt that much pain in my short life and I wouldn't do it even if someone were to kill my cat or give me Vaults of money.
after the ride, I anent able to breath properly for 10 minutes, I was stumbling down the stairs while holding my tears and holding my chest, we still had hours at the park and I was still horrible exiting the park(obviously I didn't show/tell my parents, they would tell me to stop riding rollercoasters and I would rather idk do scuiside. btw I also has slightly blurry vision getting out of station.
idk I'm fine now also in line for RTH!!

I remember riding Ghost Rider at Knotts about 4 or 5 years ago now; a little while after it was re-tracked, after that, the next day my back was in terrible pain and it lasted for 5 days, could barely get up. Great ride, will ride again.

Rode Coney Island Cyclone first and only time in 2014. Came off of it with a big bleeding gash in my shin because there was a sharp metal edge on the rim of the car. Didn't even notice it until after I came off of it, so it didn't really give me a bad experience, but it's the only roller coaster that has drawn blood from me. (The cut healed up with no problems.)

I think I slammed into that same edge. I rode it 7x on my day there, but my leg slammed into something hard, and it hurt so much. It didn't happen on my first few rides.

I used to think that HRRR wasn’t that bad but my last visit to UO completely changed my mind. Idk if it was the specific seat I was in but the restraint tightened so much that it actually bruised my midsection.
Also, La Vibora is a steaming pile of dog poop, first time riding it messed my neck up lol

You just had to bring up Nopuko Air Coaster lol. That was my first ever time on an SLC last summer and I can confirm that first inversion in the front row was the worst element I've ever experienced. I hit my neck on the restraint and spent the rest of the ride just shouting "BAD IDEA!!! BAD IDEA!! SUCH A BAD IDEA!!!"

For me it was Wildcat at Lake Compounce.
It was my first big coaster and it was so bad. I was scared off of roller coasters until my late teens cuz I thought they all hurt like that.
It took not looking like a wimp in front of a girl I liked to get on Superman at SFNE years later to get into coasters.
I have not been on Wildcat since...until next year since it's getting the Gravity Group treatment now. I live about 10 minutes from LC and the fact I havent ridden that thing in like 20
    years says alot.
Other things...broke a rib on Backlot Stunt Coaster at KD in 2022. Thanks Premier restraints!
Mineblower...yeah the video says it all.
Grizzly...also at KD before it got GG'd...,thank god I rode this before I broke my rib later in the day

Interesting, comparing to my story. On my first New England coaster trip, Wildcat at Lake Compounce was so terrible for me too, on an extremely crowded weekday at the park with horrible lines. I left the park early because I was done, but then I decided to stop at a very empty Six Flags New England before they close and ride Superman. That restored my faith in roller coasters and parks, just a couple hours after losing it.

My wife rode Hollywood Rip Ride and rocket when we were on a church trip to Orlando in 2022 and has not expressed any interest in being on another roller coaster since. She has a health situation that contributes to that as well, but it's definitely the kind of coaster that can retire somebody from being a roller coaster fan

I would say Hurricane at Fun Spot got me to check out, but I rode it twice to get front and back row experiences, and returned for Mineblower later in the day after they had completed smoothing a transition, testing the train, and after a storm went through. Which is another coaster that should make the list, but I also rode it twice to see how different rows felt and got off thinking “just retrack all of it” both times. This was last year
That being said my experience with both Mineblower and RRR in 2017 had the restraints too tight, which absolutely sucks for that style of restraint. For me it was more “off-center in the seat.” And Mineblower crushed my waist that time (also had a tight belt on and was constipated on that trip so that was an awful experience). Keep those restraints comfortable or a little loose if possible is my advice.
For Rockit though… after my rides this year, it makes a big difference whether you get a rear seat in a car or not. It’s fine in rows 1,2,4, and 5, but not in 3 or 6. Honestly it’s rerideable in the good seats.

As much as I love skyrush it definitely gave me the most painful moment on any ride. I’m a pretty tall lanky guy so roller coasters throw me around easily, at the bottom of the drop I had my hands up and since there is basically no lateral support, my whole body got thrown to the side and at that speed I couldn’t get myself back in position until the top of the first airtime hill. Basically I thought I broke my back for a second but ended up being fine, it hurt for a few weeks though. Still in my top 10 lol

    • @OklahomaCoasterFan
      @OklahomaCoasterFan 7 месяцев назад +1

That's the exact reason why I never have my hands up on Skyrush. I felt a strain in the back on my first ride with my hands up. Hands have stayed down since, and I love it.

I've never really had this because once I'm at a park, I'm locked in and not slowing down. Closest thing i have to needing to stop was after riding Colossus at Thorpe Park on back row. It was just so rough, I've never had my head bashed so hard against the restraints, i had to take a break for a solid 20 (and 2 pints of beer) to get that pain to stop lol.
I then went on SAW - The Ride 4 times, because it is not that rough, idk what people are on lmao, compared to Colossus, this thing is smooooooth.

Cedar Creek Mine Ride at Cedar Point almost did that for me. It ran way rougher than a roller coaster has any right to, and I almost quit after that ride in 2016

  • @OklahomaCoasterFan
    @OklahomaCoasterFan 7 месяцев назад

Honestly, a recent example for me was Shivering Timbers in July 2023. It was beyond brutal! Even rougher than Boss, but Boss has no airtime to redeem it. Shivering Timbers does, and if you ride in row 1 or row 11, it's tolerable. Every other row is terrible.
Another recent example was the new Wild Mouse at Cedar Point. The awkward seating and horrible torso restraints threw my back out. I thought I was going to need back surgery, but I recovered fine. Pipeline at SeaWorld also gave quite a smashing on the nuts downstairs, and I thought I needed to quit for the day. But I figured out a way to ride it without getting nut-crushing, but it's not easy.
Past year's examples are Boss & Mine Blower. Will never ride them again, until they truly get fixed. I hear Mine Blower is still terrible, as they only retracked the first drop. Further back examples are Texas Giant and Rattler.

On Kingda Ka, my friend threw out his back first time he went on. I didn't believe him and thought he was just being a crybaby. Nope. Went back almost a year later and same damn thing happened to me. Either my back cracked during the launch, or more likely, my neck was too far forward during the ascent so I had like 5 G's pulling my head down away from my back. Excruciating back pain for about 3+ days following the ride. Stretch a little before any of these, and keep your damn head back! Never made me want to quit, but boy did it remind me to keep my head in proper position...
Actually, a few days ago at Fun Spot Orlando, White Lightning was super fun, but I was putting my elbow next to me on what I thought was soft, but it was hitting the hard plastic "liner" between the outside of the car and the inside of the cushion. Either keep your hands up, or tuck your elbow in. Took me 'till the second ride to realize the issue, but still went on 6 more times and out of habit still hit my elbow a bunch more times. Minor issue compared to Kingda Ka though.

So I haven't ridden a roller coaster since 2013, but I've never really had an experience that made want to "quit" roller coasters. I guess the closest would've been Son of Beast back in the day. I managed two rides when my Dad and I visited King's Island in 2002, and I somehow convinced the old man to ride with me in the back. That ride beat the piss out of us and I think he seriously wanted to murder me afterwards. I've also got at least one Vekoma SLC to my credit and I would be very pleased to not ride any of them more than once; just get the credit and move on. That said, if I had been able to ride Drachen Fire at Busch Gardens before it was closed (they shut it down right as I became tall enough to ride it), that one probably would've done it, given its reputation.

When Raptor first opened at Cedar Point I made 2 mistakes riding it. first mistake was I had a hangover. you should never ride things hung over. second mistake was I didn't know I had to protect my head from the restraints. my other bad experience was Dominator when it was at Geauga Lake. it had a station wait that day so my date and I decided to get right back on. big mistake. they call it Dominator for a reason. I ended up with really bad motion sickness and almost hurled on my date

The now defunct "GREAT AMERICAN SCREAM MACHINE" at Six Flag's Great Adventure in NJ, takes the cake. With the also defunct "Bat Man The Chiller" coming in second. I've been on many coasters, but these were absolutely brutal with those God awful shoulder restraints. Instant migraine upon disembarking, with aches & pains all throughout your body the following morning. The Coney Island CYCLONE's back row would also be a killer too, if it weren't for that fabulous airtime buffet it gives you and those very well padded couch like seats. Thanks for the post!

This is a weird one and not technically a roller coaster, but Round-Up rides, they get to me in a way that not many rides get to. I've been on crazier coasters and flats than those, but they just mess me up. The Scat ride at Bay Beach is another one.

For me it was Python at efteling before the retrack in 2016. I was 11 or 12 but as a kid I had a weak back. The first loop instandly hurt my back so much that i was done for the day and the one after. It was a 3 day trip, thank god i did Baron before that because that was my first ride on that, i would have hated to skip that one. Since then i've been kind of scared of python and first rode it again in 2022, the retrack is really good but still don't love python because of the bad memories, plus i mean the layout is nothing special. I haven't been on condor yet but i will visit walibi Holland soon. I'm a bit scared of condor, speed of sound and xpress platform 13, but especially condor. I'm not sure yet if i'll ride that when i visit lol
