The current bolt is a major problem. If it’s not secure in the power distribution box, there’s trouble. Removing the glove box will give the best view of the distribution box
Thank You, my 2000 996 is having a slow sluggish start, and non-start, even though replaced battery and alternator, when I jump from the engine it always fires right up, I think you have given me my issue.
Great video.......wish I was close by. My 2006 997 starter is making high pitched whine just after the engine starts..... Starter or Cable or both? Thanks for showing this......A+
You probably dont give a damn but does anybody know a tool to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would love any help you can give me
@Wyatt Zain i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I need this fix on my 07 911 Targa 4S. The question is, since my mechanics never keep in stock the Bosch starter, nor do they keep in stock the wiring, if I don't want to do the entire replacement and just do the wire, to then see whether my car also needs a new starter, how do I avoid wasting time and money?
Thank you so much for video, that’s exactly what mine is doing! I have 02 2002 cab with tiptronic. What is that cable called or part # if you know. Again thank you!
hello Danny, someone needs to diagnose where the voltage drop is coming from. Start at the battery, and move your way back to the alternator. Check each connection in between. There is a connection under the transmission area. You have to check that connector! Compare all values, charging value at Alternator, compared to value at connector under transmission, compared to value at back of starter(this is the most difficult to access while the engine is running, but you can do it), compared to value at the back of alternator. With the engine running you should see nothing greater than .3 volt difference across the ENTIRE circuit. For example, if the alternator is putting out 13.9 volts while running, then the front of the battery should have NO less than 13.6 volts. And if we're keeping this in the real world, the battery shouldn't have anything less than 13.85 volts. Any competent Technician can do this.
Nhat Tran , the problem is not within a serviceable connection. The problem is within a crimp. The only way to get this new crimp is to purchase a cable assembly from Porsche. Thanks for watching!
Do you have the part number for the bosch starter you used? I’m experiencing the same issue. I put in a brand new interstate and it ran it flat in under 5 days. I know it’s a common issue with the 997.1, and I’d like to have all the parts on hand to do the job right.
Just rebuild it yourself. I would bet in most cases, the slow start is due to the starter and not the cable. I would know. www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-k4hmS4/
Depending on which model, Cabriolet or Manual trans, or tiptronic, the labor is between 2.5-4.3 hrs. You have to make sure you disconnect the battery in the front, disconnect the lower part of the cable under the transmission. Follow that to the rear of the starter, disconnect it there. Then follow that to the rear of the alternator and disconnect there. It connects at those 3 points.
Something interesting about this with my own 2.7 Cayman….will eventually no start. Once it gets to that point - (w/bat disconnected) - loosening then tightening the bolt on part 987 607 019 02 - fires right up. Think Niko’s on to something w/ the baked in resistance but in my case I think it’s at this cable junction.
Mine has a slow start ! And it gives a warning battery generator msg in the dashboard ! I wanna also replace my battery, what amps shall give it. 74 or 80, and what cold crank is needed ?
i had the exact problem. changed the crank reading sensor, quite cheap. that sensor was sensitive to tempreture when getting old. The ECU needs the crank position to ignite. after 2, 3 hrs when the sensor is colder, everything back to normal. it took me a while to wonder. but my local garage figured this out immediately. they said all bmw and merc does the same.
True test is if the car is hot and the hesitation is there. Mine starts up no problem when its cool. After I have bee running it and say I stop to gas up. Then it'll have that labored start.
You got suckered in by a recommendation from the RENNLIST forum. So did my friend who owns a 997. Sure, a high resistance joint can be the problem and I have seen cables where the ends at the crimp had turned blue (due to resistance and therefore the heat due to the high current and resistance), but that was not the case in my friend's 997. By the way, the accepted maximum voltage drop in a 12V system is 0.5V from the source (the battery) to the load (the starter). In his case, it was the starter which I fully rebuilt. You should have seen the commutator on the starter. www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-k4hmS4/
Hi thanks for the tip, I am having strange issue car starts well, it is 997, 2007, but while I kickdown the accelerator it kindof hesitates, check this link below ruclips.net/video/G6owqAJEUl8/видео.html What do u think the problem may be, we have replaced coils, spark plug, air filter, fuel filter ... The plugs have been turned black
Thanks, my 2003 has had this problem since I brought it in 2014. Great work.
Wow. I have done so my dio and could not figure it out. Thank you so much for sharing!! Now if I only had a lift in my garage. 😂
Thank you so much. I have a 987 Cayman, and the voltage problem is driving me nuts.

I see your slow cranking is solved by the other u-tuber's solution, the worn slip on connector to thread bolt on

So glad the video was helpful. Where are you located?

Approved and Correct!
Thanx for the video - can you tell me if you did a video for replacing the AOS in a 2006 997.1? That’s a project that I have to do, so was wondering.
I haven't done a video on this. I will see what I can create. Thanks for watching.
Great video.......wish I was close by.
My 2006 997 starter is making high pitched whine just after the engine starts.....
Starter or Cable or both?
Thanks for showing this......A+
Would this not also interfere with the voltage coming from the alternator to charge the battery?
Yes it can.
Do you have a video on replacing the AOS - air oil separator on a 2006 997?
You probably dont give a damn but does anybody know a tool to log back into an instagram account?

@Wyatt Zain it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out :D

@@nikosougias1298 thank you Niko, your awesome! Keep up the good work
What was wrong with the cable? Would cleaning the connection of the cable work ... instead of replacing the whole cable?
