There is a also set screw on back of upper wheel next to black knob to adjust where the saw blade rides on the wheel. Great little bandsaw for the guy who likes to tinker.
Thanks for the comment. I really cant answer that yet, but you have spurred me to make a fourth video for this series. I will do some deep dive hard drive research and some wayback machine on the webs. Thank you for the inspiration :) I will include the infor mation soon
Thanks for posting this video. My son just picked up one of these saws. I know he will be watching this video to do his own maintenance on his newly acquired saw.
Good morning to you all and I hope you're not in the deep freeze like we are. Working on pieces for the local Church's bell tower slats, this Spring is going to be 125 years old that they formed and built the church. Trying to help them with getting the wooden slats replaced and put in the tower. Thanks for replying back and enjoy your weekend! Thanks for sharing your work and time.
@@MakinSawdust your welcome and thank you.I hope you have a great day today and stay warm wherever you are. North of Pittsburgh, Pa. this morning I finally might get to see 20° today it's 17°F now. Enjoy your day!
I've always wanted a band saw, and tonight I got lucky! It is trash night in my area, and I always go looking for goodies. Low and behold, I found one of these along with a Craftsman 10" miter saw just sitting on the curb waiting for me! I got them home and tested them, and despite being a little dirty, they both work great! I'll be cleaning both in the next few days and putting them to good use very soon!
I'm so glad to fined your information on this bandsaw. I have this very same 10" craftsman bandsaw and it has been out of commission for a while because my blade broke. I followed your link for replacement parts and ordered 2 new blades, tires and drive belt. I'm excited about getting it to work again. Thank you.
You are so welcome. I haven't had time to do the tune up yet on my saw, but it has been working real good so far. I have belt, tires, cool blocks etc to install and make a video for folks. Shouldn't be too long until I publish my video that will include tips & trick and also adjustment tips. Thanks for stopping by!
Nice, thanks for the extra info on blade size, nearly impossible to find size info at stores, 56 7/8" by process of eliminating others, wish I found your video first, lol Thanks again!
Just today I picked up one of these at a Habitat Restore resale shop for $38. It seems to be working quite well. I opened it up and the tires on the wheels look good, the blade looks good, and the drive belt looks basically brand new. I am going through your videos now to get an idea of how to set it up.
I just inherited one of these. I'm a relatively experienced shop worker so I just had to put this in action AND BROKE IT THE FIRST TIME i TRIED TO USE IT. Now I can fix it.Not sure what I did, but I'll figure it out. Thanks
I have had this same saw for about 30 years and just last week I broke the lower guide, the guide was a light weight piece of junk to start with, but it will not break again caus i milled one out of a block of 6160 aluminum. it has been a good light weight saw and helped build many r/c airplanes and other projects. good vid THANX
Hey Kevin, I have that identical band saw. Made many a project and changed many blades over its 35 year old life. I went to use it the other day, and the blade came off in the first 5 seconds. I took it all apart, put on new rubbers, and a brand new blade. All the bearings were good. After putting it all back together I couldn’t get the blade to track in the middle on the top wheel. I’ve made these adjustments many times over the last 35 years. I just spent 2 whole days trying to make it work to no avail. Time for a new one……..
I am tuning up my 10" all craft model no 3104. Put new tires on it but blade is running on outside edge of tire. Bottom left wheel and top wheel bearing are solid but right wheel has a slide bit or slack. It is running so far out its out of the top guide I could bring it out to match but I think I will order a set of bearings to see if the blade will track better. This is a saw that Craftsman put there name on. It is also direct drive to the left wheel. My father was the CEO of Sears Specialty Repair centers for years and this was his saw. He can tell you every tool manufacturer that Sears used to make there power tools. It looks exactly like yours except it's direct drive.
Thanks for the comment. I really cant answer that yet, but you have spurred me to make a fourth video for this series. I will do some deep dive hard drive research and some wayback machine on the webs. Thank you for the inspiration :) I will include the infor mation soon
I have one of these left to me by my husband. He had very few working tools left by the time he passed. This one is filled with dirt and grime and has no blade on it. I opened the side of it and seen the mess and closed it back up because I know nothing about it. Thank to you and this video, I feel like I may open it up again and see what I can do to make it run again.
Well I did just that, Seems to be an older model It doesn't have a belt the motor runs off the rear wheel instead of front bottom and it purrs like a kitten. The wheels spin freely, it needs tires and a blade. But the big problem is the whole top blade guide assemble and slide bracket and front guard is missing. At least 150 to repair and parts are no longer sold. Better to just buy another one. I'll save that motor, Never know what I'll come up with. Sigh. Still, thanks for the video. It was very informative :)
I hadn’t used mine for several years, had bought new tire a while back and installed them, turned it on and the motor was not turning. Turned out that one of the bearings in the motor was frozen. I’ve got the motor torn apart and after making custom arms for my bearing puller I have the bearings off. I ordered new bearings off of Amazon with one day delivery, but that’s going to take two days so I’ll head down to the bearing house here in town and pick up a pair of bearings tomorrow morning. The motor bearings are 6202’s which are very common. Should have the saw back together tomorrow.
I’ve got the same bandsaw. Thanks for the video. I had much trouble getting my blade to stay on and now I think I’ve got it after much patience and fiddling. I am using the Snodgrass method for blade tuning.
Thanks for the comment. I really cant answer that yet, but you have spurred me to make a fourth video for this series. I will do some deep dive hard drive research and some wayback machine on the webs. Thank you for the inspiration :) I will include the infor mation soon
Bought a very similar band saw the other day, also from the 80's. It is a 12" vice 10" but otherwise identical looks. It is a cheaper brand than a Craftsman, only identified as Distributed by Test Rite Products Corp Clifton, NJ, but made in Taiwan. It is my first band saw, so your video was very helpful in helping me tune it up. Thanks
thanks for the information Kevin, I picked one up for $40 (CDN) and works great. I wouldn't use WD40 it attracts dust, try a teflon or graphite based lube.
I just got one but it could use a good motor or just a tune up like yours. Mine seems slow. Thanks for sharing your time with me and my family. You have a new subscription holder.
Thanks for the video! I have my mother's old bandsaw, exactly like this. It's been in storage for about 15 years, so it had a few issues and needed a tune-up. While Mom used it for wood, I will be using it primarily for metal. It has the stand with it, but it's missing a rubber foot, so it's a tad wobbly.
You are most welcome. I just recently broke the lower guide assy on mine so I will be making a video of the repair very soon. I also plan on using it in some more of my videos and possibly giving my tips on jigs and cutting capabilities.
Just picked one up at an estate sale but mine is a 12 inch model. Looks just like yours but with a deeper throat for wider pieces of wood. I need to find a spare blade for it. I measured the length of the blade and it measured 59 inches and I hope to find the right blade for my use.
So I am out adjusting my sears bandsaw just like yours. As i am frustrated in adjusting the upper wheel. When all looks good after I adjust the allen bolt and I go to tighten the main bolt it comes out of adjustment. Ether I am missing some pieces of the upper wheel assembly or I am dong this wrong. I was noticing you where hearing the same noise as i was. It was not the guide bearing necessarily. You see, when the blade is resting to the back of the upper wheel it makes that noise. I was looking for how to adjust this. As so to not be rubbing the blade against the back of the upper wheel and touching anything. I am thinking about a DIY. Putting a max bearing guide in front of the adjustment screw behind the blade. As to deal with improper adjustment and wear and tear. Hoping to limit the noise as well. These are just my thoughts. Thank you. :-)
Hello, I went looking for a video on how to maintain/restore this bandsaw. I picked one up at my neighbors garage sale. They were asking $40 for it and I got it for $10. I wanted to view a video or 2 before checking mine out. I do not know if the saw works at all, but I think it does. I know it needs new rubbers on the wheels, I was told that, but I am not sure of anything else right now. I do not really have a shop, but I was going to turn the barn into a shop, but my wife just told me I should turn the carport into a shop, and build her a garage. I guess that is what I will do. I think it is a good time to fix tools, like the bandsaw, etc...
Thanks for sharing. I have a similar Black and Decker model. I had the blade pop off the wheels during a cut. Perhaps the tension wasn't set correctly, I set similar to a scroll saw when you can flick the blade and the pitch changes.
Question about the wheel bearings ... I have the exact same band saw and it started squealing badly and the motor sounded labored. Checking it out revealed that one or more of the wheel bearings were worn out (or so I thought). Upon disassembly, I discovered that what I thought were bearings were actually thick brass spacers with very little grease left in between them. I've ordered actual bearings but couldn't I just pack that area between the "spacers" with grease and be done with it?
Sure ya can, but I am not an expert, I just pretend to be one on youtube :) I would say, give it a try as an experiment and kinda go for it! Couldn't hurt I suppose
Just stumbled across your video whilst looking to tune mine up. Have exactly the same saw, albeit minus the drive belt (motor connects directly to one of the wheels), and here it's badged an Ohio Forge. Just done the tune up and adjusting, the blade tracking was somewhat a tedious task (so using your Amazon links) am ordering new blades and wheel tires, as this machine was my fathers and hasn't seen life in well over 20 years. Have liked this vid, and subscribed, and will be checking out all your others. Cheers from Aus 👍👍👍
I went to an estate and found one in a pile of garbage. When I asked about it the man said it didn't work at all and if I wanted it just to take it. When I got it home and checked it out. I found a wire to one of the motor brushes broken off and fixed it. I cleaned and adjusted everything. Replaced the blade and it has been working perfectly ever since. Mine has 63 inch blades and I bought them off amazon. The one I have is a different model from whats shown, It is a 70's model with a cast iron frame and wheels with plastic covers.
Thanks nice video, I have one exactly like yours. Problem is that it won't cut a square cut. I have a sliding jig to feed the piece but for some reason it wont cut square. I made sure the jig was set at a 90 degree. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You need to increase the blade tension most likely. Make a cut, check for square, adjust, make another cut and continue that process,Take your time and make small adjustments until it gets close to square. An older blade can also cause that problem. A dull blade will cause you to try and push the stock too hand and exaggerate the flaw in the cut. Hope this helps. I have a link in the description and also the pinned comment that takes you right to the correct size blades on Amazon.
Enjoy your videos, I have this same saw, I bought used, sometimes it won't start, just hums like it's stuck, other times it's okay, but if you feed the wood with a little pressure it wants to hang up, have any ideas what it might be?
Thanks for the comment. I really cant answer that yet, but you have spurred me to make a fourth video for this series. I will do some deep dive hard drive research and some wayback machine on the webs. Thank you for the inspiration :) I will include the infor mation soon
Found one just like yours in a barn to a house I just got and cleaned it up thanks for the video man. Keep making videos with that bandsaw. Subscribed!😁
Thank you! I got one of these in excellent that my neighbor put out at the curb for trash! All it needs is a blade and that small table insert (which I can print on my 3D printer). I was in the market for this exact bandsaw. Score!
Can you tell me if the pulley timing belt has a set screw or a screw holding it on or is it just push on and the saw cover hold is from coming off during use.
Thanks for the comment. I really cant answer that yet, but you have spurred me to make a fourth video for this series. I will do some deep dive hard drive research and some wayback machine on the webs. Thank you for the inspiration :) I will include the infor mation soon
I have the exact same Sears 10 inch bandsaw can you only use quarter inch wide blades or can you use half inch on it I got mine for free without the blade on it and does it take 56 7/8in bands I need bi-metal
I have one and I have adjusted it repeadedly with several tips from the web and it still has a bit of drift. New blade will be here tomorrow and I will see what that does. I did watch the Alex Snodgrass video about how no bandsaw should have drift. I am using a 1/4 blade and it is wore out, so hopefully the new blade will fix it.
I have one that needed upper guides. Couldn't find any so ended up using some really hard wood to make guides. Proper guides would be nice, tho....so I'll watch to see if you find any sources.
I need to know the length of the band saw blade of a Craftsman 10" band saw, model 113.244513. Or the steps to take to find the length of blade I need to order. Thank you. Jerry
You can find the information on my website by clicking the link in the description of the video and also in the pinned comment . Thanks for your question.
Kevin, Thanks for the video and information about this bandsaw. I just bought the Ohio Forge branded version, but basically the same bandsaw. The issue with my saw was with the tracking set screw; it had failed and would not adjust to keep the blade on the wheels. I have rigged up a fix and the saw is working for now. Do you know of a source for a replacement tracking set screw?
I have the same band saw too Kevin. I use mine for making wooden swimbaits. They do not make 1/8 in blades for it so I have to use 3/16in blades, which is ok,. Mine tracks true and cuts straight. I did purchase a Powertech fence for it from Amazon. It does everything I need it to do. It is a hobby sized bandsaw though. If I was doing full time serious bandsaw work I'd get a much bigger saw and it would be a 2 wheeled bandsaw. The blades I found run about $15each I think. Nice little saw! I paid $75 for mine mounted on a metal work stand.
Great video, somebody just gave me one of these! The face inside looks like Wilson the volleyball from the Tom Hanks movie 'Cast Away'! Liked and subscribed!
I restored one of these that my dad had. I adjusted all the bearings and guides and had to add a shin to the lower guide housing. I was surprised in how limited this saw is in terms of radius cutting ability. However, when used in conjunction with a disc sander it’s a good enough saw.
I bought this band saw in 1986. I got it out a couple of weeks ago and had to order the three belts/tires. The saw is working ok but I cannot get the bed level. If I loosen both of the bed tilt knobs I can level it. However, when I apply a very small amount of torque to the knobs to stabilize the bed, the bed will rise up on the left side. Lowering the set screws makes the bed rise up even more. Hopefully, you have an idea what is happening. Thanks. Tom
That is interesting Tom. I am making a video replacing the urethane wheels and drive belt this week. I will be answering some common questions that I have had in the comments, so I will look into your issue and see if I can replicate the problem and maybe give some advise on the cause and how to fix it. I plan to have the video out by Friday. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. :)
I have an earlier 10 inch model than yours. There's several differences - one being mine has variable speed control which is a nice plus. They are nice for small stuff but they really aren't that powerful. They're great for softwoods. And I've seen others cut aluminum and other soft metals with the right blade. As long as you take your time, they're fine for small projects.
I have similar 10 inch bandsaw from Chicago tools this is closest device that looks like it. Mine has the 3 wheels and no belt placement for bottom right wheel. The bandsaw blade cannot get tighter from the top two wing nuts that are the same as this model. it seems and I ordered the correct blade too I believe. Not sure how to proceed. Any advice appreciated
Thanks for the comment. I really cant answer that yet, but you have spurred me to make a fourth video for this series. I will do some deep dive hard drive research and some wayback machine on the webs. Thank you for the inspiration :) I will include the infor mation soon
Hello, you asked if we had a silmilar band saw. I do. 1985 10” Craftsman. Changed the blade. Drive wheel turns very well, but when I go to saw, the wheels slow with any pressure. If I continue, wheels stop. Help?
@@MakinSawdust Thank you for your response. It is a belt drive. I've checked the wheels and the band, they are not slipping. They turn nicely, except when I go to cut wood. What do you think?
Thanks for the awesome review on this band saw and replacement parts link the bandsaw has a sanding disc on the side also I'm picking one up tomorrow and a jigsaw $40 for both what a score.
My Dad gave me the same one years ago and the blade come off the tracks, not sure what the issue is. maybe i'll get into it and fix it, I also have a older Ryobi bench top from my uncle, don't know what to do with them, maybe sell or give away. thanks for sharing. looks like you're feeling better, glad if you are.
there is a little allen head set screw on the back side of the machine by the top wheel that adjusts the tracking. As for feeling better, no I am still fairly ill, but I edited this video today and published it. I shot the vid about a week ago. Thanks for asking though. Hopefully tomorrow I can get back downstairs.
@@Daddy53751 cool. I am glad that it helped. I have another video on this saw coming out in about a week that will be fixing the lower guide. Mine broke when i tried to adjust it, but my solution is actually a bit stronger and maybe other have run into the same problem.
@@MakinSawdust This did the trick for me too. Thanks so much I was about to toss this thing and I use it all the time. It's been out of commission for many months. I have standup band saw in the garage but it's cold out there half the year. Thanks again!!!
So just found one of this bandsaw. No tires buts seem that other than that all good. Purchased the tires thru your search and such. Replaced tires but could get the blade on,too small. Measured and it is 56 1/4" long. I wonder if its cause the remnants of tire that was there seem to be lots thinner. Like inner tube thickness. Any ideas
Make sure all of the remnants of the old tire are removed completely before installing new tires. Also there is a lot of adjustment for the blade to fit. Make sure that the top 2 knobs are loosened fully for the top wheel. the blade will go on then.
You must have newer bearings on yours already. The original were brass bearings/collars with grease packed in between them and plastic seals on the outsides. Obviously a poor design but that's probably why those were replaced on yours with. bearings
I just picked up the same thing but a 9inch at my local flear market, first real saw Ive bought myself. Any parts you had trouble finding or things youve noticed since yovue had it?
many parts are obsolete. bearings, blades, wheel rubbers and belts can be purchased, but I suggest trying to find another saw identical for parts possibly
Thank you for the video Kevin, I just bought mine on Marketplace this morning :) Mine seams to be working great, however it has a drift to it. I watched some videos on how to set-up and tune the bandsaw, but all other videos I found were for he bigger bandsaws. Can you share with us please how to fix the drift? Thank you again for the video and for sharing your knowledge..
I sure will Jad. I have a video planned to replace the drive belt and the tires, as well as address some viewer comments that I have been getting. I hope to shoot it this weekend, so stay tuned. I have another video releasing this weekend on a different subject, so I hope to upload the bandsaw video mid week
My model number is 113.244513. Taking mine apart. Top pully had sticky oily running out behind bolt holding bearing in. It doesn't have roller bearings. All three pullys are bronze/brass bushings. And also looked up ur Amazon items the upper guidebrearing and lower one. My measurements are a lot smaller. I know its all original i got the from my grandpaw. And a craftsman 8inch drill press. Kinda confused any ideas would be great
Got a question. Mine will turn on but the blade won't move everything is correct on it. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the motor and hoping you would know
Best not to use WD40 on bearings. The penetrating solvents in WD40 will cause the bearings to dry out fast and dissolve any internal grease. Try to inject light bearing grease if possible.
Cute little machine. It will be great for small projects. I would put some better lube on the bearings. WD40 is great for cleaning and preventing rust, but not a good lubricant.
i have a delta version of this bandsaw but mine is slighly different only because my motor is direct to one wheel. the wheel that is bottom left as you open the panel. anyway, I cannot figure out how to stop the band from popping off. I know of four way to adjust the top wheel and ive been adjusting it for a hour but I can't figure it out. please help! is there something I missing? I think it's popping off because the top wheel is too far forward maybe. the band moves toward me on the bottom right wheel as i spin it by hand and keeps moving forward until it pops off again. THANKS!
I have the same one that I just got for free and so I ordered new tires, belt and blade but for some reason I can't seem to get the blade to stay in the center of the tire!!! I need help!!!
Thanks for your comment Kevan. I am making a video this weekend that I think will help you out. I ordered new tires and belt for mine as well and I will be installing them and making a video about it with some common problems that I have seen.
Once the tension is adjusted, then turn the tracking adjuster with a 1/8" Allen wrench. The adjuster is in a small hole on the back side of shield, behind the top wheel & below the tension knob. Turn it a 1/4 turn at a time to adjust the track. One way moves the blade to the back of the top tire, the other takes it to the front side of the tire.
Do you have any more specific suggestions on getting the blade to stay on? I was able to get it to track and stay on w/o urethane tires and just a little bit of old tape that was on some of the wheels but it was fouling on the nut that secures the thrust bearing on the upper guide. I got new tires, installed them, but now for the life of me can't get the blade to stay put even with the tiniest of adjustment on the tracking adjustment.
Just picked up one of these saws at a local resell store (my dad had one growing up) So far this saw drifts bad to the right (my right). Not sure how to fix this, could it be the blade? My first step in trouble shooting this will be to replace the blade, after doing the adjustments if its not fixed ill probably try changing out the rubber rollers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
my son just purchased exact same for exact same amount this video will come handy when replacing blade. was told the blade is 59 3/4 in. ? not sure? did not come with instructions/ manual Yelm WA
I have this saw and I have installed new tires and driver belt but I am having a hard time with installing the blade. No problem getting it on however it keeps slipping off. How do you install the blade without it slipping off, what am I missing?
Thanks for the comment. I really cant answer that yet, but you have spurred me to make a fourth video for this series. I will do some deep dive hard drive research and some wayback machine on the webs. Thank you for the inspiration :) I will include the infor mation soon
I just got one of these with the DurQ branding for CAN$30 for a specific project. Thanks for the links -- they're better prices than the ones Amazon search showed me.
Hi Kevin, I’ve recently unpacked my late dad’s old bandsaw. It seems to be the exact one you found. As I was watching your tutorial I noticed mine is missing a piece-I looked but can’t seem to locate it in your parts link. I don’t have the slim piece of metal covering the blade where it comes out of the top area-I wish I could show you a picture, but I think it may be a safety cover? Thanks for any help 🙂shannon
Here is a link to the Craftsman saw manual. kevinswoodcreations.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/L0901656.pdf . I looked for the part that you are describing and it is in fact the blade gaurd. It is part #45 in the list. 69152 but I did a quick search on amazon and I cannot find it. Ebay may be a place to find it or making one from some sheet metal may be somewhat simple. I am making a video this week replacing the rubber tires on the drive wheels and also the drive belt. I will also be answering some questions that I have been getting in the comments, so I may address your issue as well and show the blade gaurd fully so you may be able to make one. hope this helps you out.
Ok, I have another question. I just tried to make my first cut and it cut about six inches and then the blade popped off the wheels. I put it back on, and it happened again. Maybe I need a new blade? It’s likely old
Question... would this saw handle boards 36” by 1-1/2”? I am doing an Adirondack chair project, making six chairs and have the opportunity to buy one of these for $50.
I have a 10" DUREX band saw which is pretty well the same format as the SEARS CRAFTSMAN. I bought it in 1994 for a specific project and never used it since. The other day--when I opened the front cover--the 3 wheel rubbers came flying out, they were dry and broken. Do you have any idea where I could find some replacement?
Hello Kevin, my name is Mike and I just subscribed, I have a quick question? I have same exact saw but the yellow power key thingy is missing, is there something else I can use? Can't even see if it works yet because won't turn on without yellow, thanks.
Wow that stinks. Yeah the yellow safety thing will not let the switch operate. Let me go see what my yellow thing looks like and make a suggestion for you
I just went downstairs to try and see if i could rig up a solution. I stuck a small drillbit in the bottom hole of the switch and flipped it up and bam it worked.
yeah, I inherited the same one from my grandfather. I've never done any sort of wood working but 4 years ago I got into knife making. I can definitely use it for that. However, I have found that I can't get the blade to track worth a damn. The blade just walks all over the place when i'm trying to make a straight cut. Help?
I have a Sears 10” of the model before yours. The blade keeps coming off. The wheel ‘gaskets’ seem dry and not very supple; but intact. Is it the tensioning or should I try to find new wheel gaskets? Thanks for the video!
I would surely buy new wheel rubbers. While you are at it check to see that all 3 wheels spin very freely, because a marginal bearing that may still seem good may actually have a little wobble to it before it seizes up. All those parts are available on amazon and you can actually find the link to my article that has the parts link in it. The link is in the description and also in some of the comments.
Read the comments below. It's the adjustment allen key for the top wheel. It's next the the thumb screw on the back the lock the top wheel in place. Thank you so much for this info. I haven't been using it for 6 months and was about to toss it and buy another.
Hello, I have a similar band saw, but with another name. Its from 1990 and it is a.Luna Rbs 300 woody., got it a few days ago from a friend. I miss the rubber for the wheels and the upper bandguide. Its not possible to buy it here in Norway. The craftsman have the same bandguide,do you now where to buy the uppper guide? Thank you for good videos😀
Kevin, I recently got a Craftsman 10 inch bandsaw, model # 135 244 200. I don't know what is 10 inches on the saw. Perhaps the band is. I know of band guides, but not guide bearings. Perhaps guide bearings is the thrust bearing. I have no manual. Where could I get one? JIm
I am not entirely sure how the 10" is measured. There is a PDF downloadable manual on my website. You also do not have to download it, because it is also viewable on the site. The link is in the description of this video as well as the pinned comment
Kevin, I just obtained the exact same band saw. Replaced the bands that go around the pulleys and the drive belt. I put it all back together and after a lot of adjustments to get the blade to stay on the pulleys the blade walks sideways to the right when cutting anything. How do I fix this? Is it the blade or something else?
I own this one or a very similar one. I have used it and my only issue has been two broken blades. Each lasted a while the first I don't know when it was installed as it came with the saw. The second lasted about 4 years.
I have not, but I need to do it very soon. I have some replacement parts to install and a project that involves mounting it into the bench. I got swamped with customer projects in the last few months, but catching up now. Thanks for asking
@@MakinSawdust Thanks for the reply, that's good to hear! And hey man, you're out there working and making some coin, ain't nobody out there who can begrudge a man for having some good honest work lined up. Looking forward to how you approach it!
@@MakinSawdust Good to hear. I just walked in the door with one off of Craigs List. I put the blade back on, made some obvious adjustments and then some test cuts. Other than the blade being rather dull and a squeal when cutting, It works. About to order a new blade off of amazon...
yes the blade should be in between the guides. the guides are also adjustable so the blade doesnt move side to side. the guides shouldn't be tight against the blade, but just barley touching. I have an article with links to new blades and other misc parts on my website that you can reference. I think maybe the blade could be pretty worn and the pressure is making it not track straight. My saw is not a powerhouse, so blade sharpness is really important. The article is in a pinned comment and here is a direct link to the parts list on my website. kevinswoodcreations.com/bandsaw-parts-list/ Stay connected because I will doing a few more videos here with regards to this tool. thanks for your time watching. Let me know what you find out.
I got one of these saws recently and like it, but noticed that there is not much power...I initially got replacement belts and tires, but when was trying to replace the drive belt, the pully for that came off the motor and it almost looks like the entire front half of the shaft has been worn down and the nubs are all worn off. Does your drive shaft have nubs that go the full length or are they mostly smooth on the end of the shaft and the drive type nubs are only near the motor? ie i am trying to get more info on yours to figure out if it may be the shaft which is bad or the pulley....neither of which are replacement parts anymore, but that still will let me know what to try. :)
yes I have one of these old timers! Your video was great and exactly what I needed! Thank you. I'm relatively new at creating woodwork (2nd year) Love it so far, but I have broken a few blades! I quickly learned that heat and blades do not play nice. My question is, are there tell tale signs that I'm missing, that would let me know that I need to let my saw chill out? How long do I need to wait until I can resume using it? I will be seeking out some more of your videos for sure
Thank you for the inspiration :)
I will include the infor mation soon
Thanks for posting this video. My son just picked up one of these saws. I know he will be watching this video to do his own maintenance on his newly acquired saw.
You are a great dad 👍
I just found the exact band saw in my friends tools he left to me, before he passed. Getting ready to clean it up and go. Thanks for your video.
You are an AWESOME follower!! Thanks for your comments
I'll be cleaning both in the next few days and putting them to good use very soon!
great score!!
Nice, thanks for the extra info on blade size, nearly impossible to find size info at stores, 56 7/8" by process of eliminating others, wish I found your video first, lol
Thanks again!
Just today I picked up one of these at a Habitat Restore resale shop for $38. It seems to be working quite well. I opened it up and the tires on the wheels look good, the blade looks good, and the drive belt looks basically brand new. I am going through your videos now to get an idea of how to set it up.
Sweet! Thanks for the comment 👍
I just picked one of these up at a sale - $25! Just needs a blade. Now that you've opened it up, I know what to look for. Thanks!

Great
@@MakinSawdust I did get the bearings installed and the saw back together, nice to have it working again.
I’ve got the same bandsaw. Thanks for the video. I had much trouble getting my blade to stay on and now I think I’ve got it after much patience and fiddling. I am using the Snodgrass method for blade tuning.
I have that exact saw but do not know enough about bandaws to repair it. Thanks for your video i think i will try again.

Thanks
I just picked the same saw up off of MarketPlace yesterday, for $40, lol.
I’m going to check it out more thoroughly this weekend.
thanks for the information Kevin, I picked one up for $40 (CDN) and works great. I wouldn't use WD40 it attracts dust, try a teflon or graphite based lube.
great videos. found your page while trying to fix my dads 1988 sears 10in band saw. off to the hardware store!
My wife's uncle gave me one these to start some basic wood working, glad I found this video.
Can you make a video on how to keep the belt tracking on the wheels and how to adjust all the guides with close ups please
I sure will! Stay tuned n subscribed ;)
I just got one but it could use a good motor or just a tune up like yours. Mine seems slow. Thanks for sharing your time with me and my family. You have a new subscription holder.
Ok
greetings, I never had or owned any tools like this before. Sure is interesting to see how they work. thanks so much for sharing this.
Thank you. :-)
Hmmmm, think I'll open that saw up again tomorrow and give it another chance. Thanks Kevin :)
Sure ya can, but I am not an expert, I just pretend to be one on youtube :)
I would say, give it a try as an experiment and kinda go for it!

Thank you! I got one of these in excellent that my neighbor put out at the curb for trash! All it needs is a blade and that small table insert (which I can print on my 3D printer). I was in the market for this exact bandsaw. Score!
Right on!
Can you tell me if the pulley timing belt has a set screw or a screw holding it on or is it just push on and the saw cover hold is from coming off during use.

I have the exact same Sears 10 inch bandsaw can you only use quarter inch wide blades or can you use half inch on it I got mine for free without the blade on it and does it take 56 7/8in bands I need bi-metal
I have a link to 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch blades in the description and in the pinned comment. It is an article on my website
Did the new blade help?
I have one that needed upper guides. Couldn't find any so ended up using some really hard wood to make guides. Proper guides would be nice, tho....so I'll watch to see if you find any sources.
What do you use this for? Is it more fine work and arts and crafts? Can you fit a 2x4 in it?
surely
I need to know the length of the band saw blade of a Craftsman 10" band saw, model 113.244513. Or the steps to take to find the length of blade I need to order. Thank you. Jerry
You can find the information on my website by clicking the link in the description of the video and also in the pinned comment . Thanks for your question.
@@MakinSawdust Length a bad sawblade for a 10 inch three wheel craftsman bandsaw model number 113244513 thank you
Kevin, Thanks for the video and information about this bandsaw.
I would suggest Fastenal. take the part with you and you should be able to get the correct thread size
Just inherited one from my grandfather. Was wondering if there is a way to attach a fence to it to resaw a 1x3 ?
Liked and subscribed!
lol i just received one as a give-a-way / you have it... so i am just looking to see whats what...

Father-n-law just gave me his this past weekend. Same model. Gonna clean it up and try it out.
Cool, make sure to watch the other videos I have on this saw, they could be helpful.
I restored one of these that my dad had. I adjusted all the bearings and guides and had to add a shin to the lower guide housing. I was surprised in how limited this saw is in terms of radius cutting ability. However, when used in conjunction with a disc sander it’s a good enough saw.
Cutting radius is typically limited by the blade width. Try a blade 1/8" blade
Thanks for the info!

Love the introduction!!
Hello, you asked if we had a silmilar band saw. I do. 1985 10” Craftsman. Changed the blade. Drive wheel turns very well, but when I go to saw, the wheels slow with any pressure. If I continue, wheels stop. Help?
Is it a belt drive or a direct drive?
@@MakinSawdust Thank you for your response. It is a belt drive. I've checked the wheels and the band, they are not slipping. They turn nicely, except when I go to cut wood. What do you think?
Thanks for the awesome review on this band saw and replacement parts link the bandsaw has a sanding disc on the side also I'm picking one up tomorrow and a jigsaw $40 for both what a score.
Thanks for the info!
Makin' Sawdust hey thanks for this info,
It straightened my mess right out!
Any advice on bearing replacement or re-greasing of original spindles. Just picked one up and the wheels do not spin freely
They are a sealed bearing so it isnt feasible to grease or change them. The pinned comment has links to replacement bearings on my website.
Thank you for the video Kevin, I just bought mine on Marketplace this morning :)
Mine seams to be working great, however it has a drift to it.
Kinda confused any ideas would be great
great video on Craftsman 10 inch Bandsaw.
Thanks a lot. I have a tune up video with replacement of some upgrade parts pretty soon coming up. Thanks for stopping by.
One of the best intro’s I’ve seen in ages. Got my sub! Lol
Thanks for the sub!
I have an exact one. My blade cuts crooked any tips?
watch video #3
THANKS!
Good informative video. I watched this before seriously looking at Facebook Marketplace to buy the same saw.
Thanks
I have the same one that I just got for free and so I ordered new tires, belt and blade but for some reason I can't seem to get the blade to stay in the center of the tire!!! I need help!!!
Thanks for your comment Kevan. I am making a video this weekend that I think will help you out. I ordered new tires and belt for mine as well and I will be installing them and making a video about it with some common problems that I have seen.
Kevan Morton I have the same problem with my delta band saw.
I've had one for many years. Don't expect much from it, since it is just a Tinker Toy saw.
I just made a very detailed video of some adjustment tips and common problems associated with this saw. ruclips.net/video/Wf9azy5HPFo/видео.html
What's the resaw capacity of a little saw like this one?
About 3" the way it is made, but with some chassis modification, I bet you could squeek out 4"
my son just purchased exact same for exact same amount this video will come handy when replacing blade. was told the blade is 59 3/4 in. ? not sure? did not come with instructions/ manual Yelm WA
Have a band saw like yours put new tires and notice the tension knob and part are missing haven't been able to find those parts . can't adjust blade
I have this saw and I have installed new tires and driver belt but I am having a hard time with installing the blade. No problem getting it on however it keeps slipping off. How do you install the blade without it slipping off, what am I missing?
Does anyone know what size bearings are used on the wheels and where I can get them?

Except 'doesn't ship to Canada'. grrrr.
Aw man, what a bummer.
Thank you!!
Ok, I have another question. I just tried to make my first cut and it cut about six inches and then the blade popped off the wheels. I put it back on, and it happened again. Maybe I need a new blade? It’s likely old
Yeah, we have exactly that same band saw. It still works, though maybe needs a new blade.
Question... would this saw handle boards 36” by 1-1/2”? I am doing an Adirondack chair project, making six chairs and have the opportunity to buy one of these for $50.
I have the exact same bandsaw, do you know where I can get a miter fence for it
I have a 10" DUREX band saw which is pretty well the same format as the SEARS CRAFTSMAN. I bought it in 1994 for a specific project and never used it since. The other day--when I opened the front cover--the 3 wheel rubbers came flying out, they were dry and broken. Do you have any idea where I could find some replacement?
There is a link in the pinned comment to my website that has the parts list and direct links to the replacement parts

Help?
Can this take a metal cutting blade?
Yes
I have a Sears 10” of the model before yours. The blade keeps coming off. The wheel ‘gaskets’ seem dry and not very supple; but intact. Is it the tensioning or should I try to find new wheel gaskets? Thanks for the video!
I would surely buy new wheel rubbers. While you are at it check to see that all 3 wheels spin very freely, because a marginal bearing that may still seem good may actually have a little wobble to it before it seizes up. All those parts are available on amazon and you can actually find the link to my article that has the parts link in it. The link is in the description and also in some of the comments.
THANKS!
Got it up and running. Still need new wheel rubbers. Appreciate the advice.
Thank you for good videos😀
do you have Ebay or something similar in Norway?
My first guess would be blade tension. I would say it is a bit too loose.
I own this one or a very similar one. I have used it and my only issue has been two broken blades. Each lasted a while the first I don't know when it was installed as it came with the saw. The second lasted about 4 years.
Thanks for stopping by Gen
Hey Kevin, have you put up the video with the update on this tool? I just recently picked one up myself
I just got one, still in box and never opened. Brand new!!!
I got the exact same, I use to cut some real tight curves but the blade consistently pops out. Am I doing something wrong?
Just found one on craigslist wondering if it’s in good shape if it’s Worth the 50 dollars?
Just picked up the same one myself. The blade twists when cutting, is the blade supposed to be in between the guides on top and bottom? Thanks.
yes the blade should be in between the guides. the guides are also adjustable so the blade doesnt move side to side. the guides shouldn't be tight against the blade, but just barley touching.
I have an article with links to new blades and other misc parts on my website that you can reference. I think maybe the blade could be pretty worn and the pressure is making it not track straight. My saw is not a powerhouse, so blade sharpness is really important. The article is in a pinned comment and here is a direct link to the parts list on my website. kevinswoodcreations.com/bandsaw-parts-list/
Stay connected because I will doing a few more videos here with regards to this tool. thanks for your time watching.
I have the same question?
I fixed the old part, I cleaned it off good then I just tried some blue loctite and so far that works great, no more slipping.
yes I have one of these old timers!
Hi there boss. Hey , every time I start mine the drive belt goes off of the rail wheel could you please help me figure what it is?!
I mean the rubber band
