How many players have improved under xavi?
@mr.random6665 pedri and gavi excelled under him. The problem is that they don't have a deep enough squad to rotate them and prevent injury.
Xavi doesn't have the same resources due to the financial mismanagement. I don't think it's fair to judge a player with his attributes so early because Balde is clearly talented. Most defenders learn how to play from other defenders- pique only became as good as what he was because of puyol etc. Even Maldini had Baresi.
I would say give him a couple years or 4 to see how he develops.

As a Barca fan who likes and wants balde to succeed I would say he needs to improve about every part of his game if we want to challenge in Europe. He would be one of the weak links in any ucl challenging team if we are being honest
IMO, the biggest problem is playing Balde and Cancelo together in matches. B.A.C.K. worked last season because Balde had almost complete attacking freedom as he was covered by 3 centre backs. This season he seems more confused as Cancelo is also extremely attack-minded, meaning Balde has to hold back more often aka less attacking freedom.

Lewa's poor form has crippled the team. His positioning has been very poor and timing looks well off the standard. I believe this caused the entire team to second guess themselves. We are creating a more than suitable amount of chances but don't have the end product. The competition of Roque will help dramatically

How has he been good? He didn't create any chances because he can't hit any Barca player with his deliveries and he also doesn't track back to defend as much as he needs to. The only thing he was good at is running with the ball but that doesn't matter as he can't get one pass right or score goals

The main problem is that the overall team performance has experienced a severe decrease in quality. A 20 year old is 99/100 not going to be able to carry a team at such an age, the problem is mostly Xavi and it’s up to the coach to get the best out of each player. That's the problem with Barca. All These Kids are on high pressure at such young age. Expectation from them to drag Whole team. These kids were supposed to be on bench & learn from seniors. Look how when Barca is desperate fans look at Lamine Yamal to do something who is like 17. This whole thing add more pressure to a player who's Even Muscle is just developing. But still Balde performed when team needed. He just needs to work on his Crossing & judgement more. Atm whole Barca squad is out of form so can't target only him.

I think it’s being blown over proportion. He’s really young and has all the time in the world to become a great player. Idk if it’s because he plays for Barcelona that the expectations are so high but we can’t realistically expect a 19 year old to be a consistent starter. I was honestly surprised that we dropped Jordi, it was a big bet on Xavi’s part. I doubt barcelona will sell him, especially now that Barcelona has a good chunk of money coming if the Super League is established.

It'd be idiotic to sell him, at such a young age he's already in the most elite group of LB's (including periods when he has been the best) in the world - and his ability with the ball at his feet going forward is better than any LB in Barcelona's history (certainly much better than Alba's), he reminds me of Marcelo at his peak when he was at RM and how I always wished we had an LB like that. He will become more consistent with age and his performance will also rise as the team gets out of its rut.

His pace is also a curse. He loves to hit and run cause he thinks he’ll out pace the opponent. He needs to work on his close control and passing.

Davies was a raw product Bayern molded with time. He had the backing of Bayern even at his lowest. Balde doesn't seem to have that as Xavi don't have time so he will play the most effective all the time. If Balde gets sold, it will be a bigger loss than selling De Jong.

Positional play third man , half spaces all that commonly refered to as tiki taka is very taxing on a player's mind specially if they haven been doing it at a high lvl for long unless they are a technicall genius who understands football on a superior lvl which prob only applies to pedri and dejong in our team and pedri is currently super injury prone so whenever they create after a long sequence they are mentally exhausted and just go to their default which makes u predictable

Alejandro Balde hasn’t a good season so far as his level has dropped from last season, but we have to remember that he’s still only 20 years old and it’s difficult for young players to keep their standards high after an elite season where now people expect a lot more from you. He hasn’t been helped by Xavi’s tactical setup as the entire team is performing poorly and so far having Balde on one side Cancelo on the other side 2 attacking fullbacks it hasn’t worked for them so far this season as it leaves them more vulnerable in defense and they’re still working on it and it hasn’t clicked for the team.
He has some things that I think he can work on if he is to be considered a world class left back. Going forward he does a very good job, but his final delivery the end product can significantly improve and he can cross a ball much better and he’s working on it with time and experience that area of his game will be fixed and I think Barcelona in general lack chemistry because it seems like having Joao Felix on the left wing has been detrimental to him as they haven’t been able to make the left side of the field more dangerous and threatening. Xavi this season due to injuries out of form players inconsistent results hasn’t found a settled starting lineup and this is something that has affected Alejandro Balde at times because he’s been in and out of the starting lineup and prior to the Girona loss he was playing Joao Cancelo at left back and either Kounde or Araujo at right back and after that loss he went back to having Balde at left back and in the Las Palmas game he looked good but once again the final ball was lacking. I think he’s the future of Barcelona at the left back position, he’s not had a great season but the reality is on this Barcelona team recently, who has been performing on a consistent basis, nobody and we have to give it a little more time because if you back him and persist with the kid, you’ll see him back to the form he was at last season.

I think there was a little of hype around balde last year. Offensively he was far below the level of alba in positioning and crossing. He still has a lot to improve but he is also very young. In 2-3 seasons he could be on the right level if he works hard and plays intelligent. But does barca have the patience

To cope with the issue, just play Balde as a LB and Cancelo as a RB. With Balde knowing the only way Alonso is taking his spot is when he's injured or during useless cup games, he'll feel comfortable which will allow him to try different things, the same thing happened to Alves when he first joined Barca, in his 1st season he thrived and won a sextuple, the 2nd season he was the weak link Inter capitalized on but, he adapted and became among the 5 greatest full backs of all time and this was when he 25, Balde is 19, give the kid time, he'll thrive.
Cancelo and Balde is a hinderance tho, neither of them defend well and Cancelo always makes inverted runs into the center of the pitch so its a mess

To me, what is really happening is that, balde is a fullback that dribbles a lot, he's not a Robertson or alba that crosses a lot. He carries the ball and dribble. What really caused a dip in form imo is the loss of dembele, without dembele, balde is the only player that could beat players 1v1. So xavi relied on him to play a kinda Winger/LB at the same time. Last season he usually receives passes at his own half and carries it forward. What happens this season is he is already at a LW position when we receives the ball and that denies him from his main skill which is ball progression and dribbling. The team uses him as the 1v1 guy, and added to that he should be the left back and at the same time very high as a LW. However he needs to improve his runs and crosses.

Even last season Balde didn't know when to make runs behind the defense and it was obvious when you saw him play and when you saw how Alba makes runs. That clip of Frenkie telling him where to run is honestly nothing new. If Cancelo isn't playing then I would much rather have Alonso as he is much better at crossing and he can also score goals and we really need that even though he is worse at defending.

For me, i feel like balde is very inconsistent, he makes good runs but loses the ball every time, he either loses the ball by holding it for way too long or he cant ever make a good pass, its the same with jao felix, they hold the ball for way too long and never end up doing anything with their hard work.
Canceló got injured so this should allow us to see his performance from last season
i got so mad at one time against real betis when he just left a player to run through on goal, you can go through bad spells but i will never accept players not wanting to work hard for the benefit of the team
I’m not a Barca fan but Alejandro Balde is my favourite player to watch when I do find the time to watch a Barca game. Barca please don’t sell him or even loan him. Your expectations of him are high because he himself set the bar high when he rose to fame in a short amount of time. Give him time. He Is a LB. To me Barca want him to develop quickly into the team like Pedri and Gavi. Loan him he then becomes the next Ansu Fati. Sell him and then he becomes the next Achraf Hakimi (The Hakimi who left Real for Dortmund then to Inter and now PSG). Make the decision in the summer. For now there shouldn’t be no hate for Balde. The same hate doesn’t even get to the standards of Lewa and which confuses me considering when he isn’t scoring, Barca are not performing.

I agree that Balde needs to improve on his final pass but I feel like his runs and dribbling being subpar this season have more to do with the fact that him and Felix don't gel well together. Felix's positioning is terrible and progressively getting worse. He's extremely stagnant at times, they both have a hard time playing together cause they don't give each other enough space to do the things they're best at. Our last game was a perfect example of Baldes quality when playing with a player that'll give him enough space to maneuver the way he has to. It wasn't his best showing but he hadn't made those runs in a while. He still has a lot to improve on but he's only 20 and IS one of our best prospects. We'd be the dumbest club to let a player like him go.

Watching it after the last El clasico of the season. Cancelo being so poor defensively, I'm coming to conclusion that once we get Balde back to his form, we are good. Because in attack we have enough quality with Yamal, Raphinha, Felix, Ferran, Roque. But Cancelo's flaw in defense cost us the last two games
It's sad that everyone is pushing the narrative that Balde can't cross, Balde can't rum into spaces like this. The boy could've registered double digit assists this season if it wasn't for the poor finishing we've had to watch, him, Frenkie, Pedri and of course Rapha, the unsung hero. He is not gonna be good everyday of course but he is far from being bad.
We should not sell Balde, too young, still has potential to grow. We got him for free in La Masia and his wages is not crazy high right now.

I think the problem for balde is him gaining more muscles at the upper body than lower part, which makes him slow, with weak balance, as well easily predictable.
