- Fishing one of the creeks near the town of Adelaide River in the Northern Territory. This creek contains Sooty Grunter, Spangled Perch, Rainbow Fish, Catfish, and it is rumored to have Barramundi and Saratoga.
I am using a 8/9 weight fly rod, 8 weight double tapered fly line, with a 10kg monofilament leader as Barramundi have sharp gill coverings which can easily cut your hand if you are not careful.
Great video mate, loving all the fly fishing on your channel. Funny enough I catch catfish and spangled perch as a by catch when chasing bass on fly in SE QLD.
Very nice, the catfish up there look like the ones in the States. That first fish gave you a great battle. Well done, fun to watch video.
Thanks Larry. I was very surprised by that greedy little catfish. The Sooty Grunter are a very hard fighting fish. Almost as same as a Mangrove Jack.
How good are sooties on light gear. Great vid. Putting in some kms too
Cheers mate. He gave me a good run. Ended up with a bit of a rope burn on my hand.
Are there no crocs there?
Possibly as it flows towards the Adelaide River.
Great vid mate. Been keen to break out the fly rod on waters like that, but as a relative newcomer to the NT I keep thinking I'm gonna be croc bait if I stand too close! 😂. Any of those fish would be a new species on fly for me! Serenity looked nice... could almost think it was a trout stream from down South! Cheers 🍻
Crocodiles are always on my mind. I do miss my trout fishing down south.
