Can you imagine being a logger running one of those 10 hours a day? Those old loggers were tough ! After WW-2, the powerhead parts were used in the first Mercury outboard motors, and were converted to water cooling. My Mercury Snowmobile even used the same internal engine components, but the cylinders are air cooled, like the chainsaw. Old man Kiekaefer was quite the inventor !

Makes one appreciate just how tough those ol' loggers were back then. My grandfather started with the axe and crosscut and was around when the first gasoline and air saws came out. My father, who will soon be 86, started in the woods in the 50's and looking back says he is amazed that he was able to horse around those big old saws of the day back then. I come wandering along and into the woods work in the 70's and had it pretty easy comparatively speaking and am man enough to say I was a wimp compared to them. Much respect to those older generations in the logging biz.

Too cool Dan! Gotta have fun with these old saws. Thats why we do this. Hunt,find, and hear them pop for the first time after hours, days, or weeks of working on them. Just good clean fun. God bless brother

It’s got some torque, it was muscling you around and grabbed a hold of the wood. I don’t think it even broke into a sweat while cutting.

My grandfather had an old Maul chainsaw he used after he got out of the navy in WWII. Awesome old saws. His had a 10' bar.

They are supposed to be run with the engine pulled right upto the log, the engine is supposed to do the work, less fatigue holding it back just let it cut, they are awesome beast to cut with thanks for sharing such an awesome piece of machinery Dan

Dan, any idea what the displacement is on that thing? If it’s a twin cylinder surely it’s over 150cc’s. I’m just curious.
The late model like dan is running, is a 2 cylinder 180cc engine. The earlier ones were 245cc or 15 cubic inches.
