      Hi David, Thank you very much for your kind words, it was the intention for anyone to follow along there own issue, especially if they are unfamiliar with following wiring diagrams which can be a challenge especially the older Haynes manuals.

    Conclusion was a surprise. Thank you. You can use a 55w bulb instead of a fuse, to save blowing fuses and give a better fault finding experience.

      Thanks again, yes it was a surprise, There will be another video of the switch and I want to go over a couple of things that I don’t feel I explained very well, potentially the switch could still be ok there could be a fault on the headlamp level signal wire if the level switch turns out to be ok.
      Good shout about using a 55w lamp 👍

      Thanks Rich, assuming it is the switch that is 🤔 could still be the output from the switch, time will tell watch this space.

    Very interesting and thorough video Steve, certainly something I'll keep my eye out for it my headlights start blowing fuses. Did you mention Robsey from the cavalier forum? He's a very good guy and has a wealth of knowledge in cavaliers and the electronics stuff.
    I've had a couple of electrical faults with my 1.8, the biggest one was the central locking was intermittent, then eventually stopped working. It took me a while to work out what it was, thinking door switch or something similar but it was the wire from the central locking control unit to the fuse box, for some reason the wire in the loom must have failed so I just bridged it with a jumper wire. I never took the loom apart though, just bypassed the wire to the fuse.
    The other was the fuel and temp gauge both stopped working just recently, I put a wee video up of the fix on my channel. Thanks to Robsey for pointing out that the volt regulator on the back of the circuit board had failed.

      Hi Andy, thanks for the feedback 😀 there will be a part 2 that I’m planning on filming hopefully tomorrow. Yes that’s Robsey, he definitely has a wealth of knowledge on these cars, I would love to get to his level of understanding these, i wanted to shout him out just out of respect and to show where I got the information of the X6 connector.
      I guess I could have easily got the answer if I poked around but I have kind of been waiting for an issue like this to fault find myself to create the video of how I would go about this and to show others that they can do this themselves.
      You’re little gremlins sounds interesting though although I’m sure you didn’t feel that way at the time 😂 I know I didn’t at first. I will see if I can find your video I will look forward to watching that.
      Cheers Andy. And thanks again for your kind words, these comments really encourage me to keep doing these videos and hopefully get better at presenting and making them 👍 all the best.

      @@Cavalier_Steve Hi Steve, your videos are well presented and thorough and probably the very few videos that I watch from start to finish, so you must be doing something right!
      I'm still trying to get my head around making videos, but quite like putting the info out there, I just put in warts n all and limit the editing.
      I'd also lost quite a few videos I made end of last Year due to my external hard drive going corrupt and some of the videos were corrupt as well. Ah the joys of IT!
      Yes, the cavalier forum is a wealth of really great info, and any electrical stuff, Robsey is usually the first port of call. Looking forward to your follow up video, hope the wind isn't too bad, I think you can get wind filters for presenting, don't know if that's just a tacky add on but some guys swear by them. Cheers for now, Andy

      Thanks Andy 😊😊 making videos is something I’m still perfecting I’m a long way off yet, I started off by doing a couple on my own and virtually edited them as I went along by that I mean if I messed up a clip I would delete it and reshoot it then stitch the clips together and stuck them on here with minimal post editing. Then a work friend started to edit a couple of my videos he even helped me film a few, whilst he didn’t mind filming I didn’t want to take his time up filming for me so I took on the whole job roll. I found a really good video editor that you can download for free VN video editor, it’s really good I think it works on both apple and android phones and even works on a tablet which is where I do most of my editing as the screen is larger, I never would have known I would get as good as I am now defensively worth giving it ago start off by putting clips together then the fancy stuff can come later. I think VN is for short videos really but it handles 40+ minutes videos fine remember my videos can be well over an hour unedited.
      I’ve lost clips before but to lose an entire library must be gutting for you, I’m sorry to hear that 🥺 IT brings out the worst in me most times 😠😂

      @@Cavalier_Steve Hi Steve, your videos are definitely quite good, especially saying you're a long way off from perfecting.
      to be hones, I think I went a bit overboard with the gear for making of the videos, I did start out with my phone, but then thought I'd go all pro and get a GoPro ncluding a head mount & a tripod stand, but to be honest it's still a bit of a pain and you can't pause the recording and resume which is a major bugbear, means you end up with lots of little clips you've got to stick back together. Luckily I've got camtasia editor, but it still takes an age to process and create a final mp4.
      I did manage to retrieve most of the videos I done from the external drive, I ended up just doing a chkdsk run on the drive, like you would a computer C drive and that fixed it. I think something else is wrong somewhere as some of the videos were corrupted but that was before I actually fully corrupted the external drive!
      Managed to break my speedo & one bulb in the instrument cluster and took out the bottom part of the plastic cowl surround, so got a wee bit more work to do even though my gauges now work. The joys! Hope your getting done what you want to do on your cavy, look forard to the next videos :)

    Hi Steve, well that was a surprise mate I didn't expect the switch for the headlight leveller to be faulty. My first thought here was one of the motors that adjusts the headlight as these things are notorious for failing on all cars not just the Cavalier, I've had a few cars that had them but most of them never worked.
    Do you have any training or have you worked in electrics car or otherwise mate as you did a great job on the way you diagnosed the fault, very clever mate well done👏👌👍

    • @Cavalier_Steve
      @Cavalier_Steve  Год назад

      Hi John, thanks for the lovely comment, yes it was a surprise for me to! I was also fully expecting one of the headlamp levels to have failed, it may not be the switch though I could be a wiring fault on the outlet from the switch to the level motors, this is something I’m going to clear up in the next video when I have a look at the switch in more detail. The comment about have I had any training I think I will take as a compliment, as I never had any other than watching videos in the past on electrical fault finding, it is a subject that does interest me and a subject that I have always wanted to do for my channel and this was perfect as I didn’t know what was going on so we was truly finding out together so to speak. I really enjoyed working on this one, there are a few things I want to go over in another video as I think I could do better explaining them. Cheers mate I’m glad you enjoyed this. Cheers. 👍

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 Год назад +1

      I was thinking the same about the switch as there isn't much in them to go wrong apart from the resistors, the easy check is to try a different switch as it might save a lot more fault finding.
      Yes mate it was defiantly meant as a compliment as you seem to have what it takes to fault find electrics. My dad used to be a TV/Radio engineer and electrician and he used to spend hours fault finding the old TV's which had valves then the hybrids and he loved it.
      Looking forward to the next one Steve👌👏👍

      I did find a used switch but they guy wants over £14 for it which I think is a bit steep, I definitely not rare or anything… I will do some testing on it in another video just for completeness of the last one I done, I will give me a great opportunity to clear a couple of things up that I don’t think I explained very well. Cheers mate see you in your next sprayathone 👍😀

    Evening all
    Please help before I end up scrapping my mk3 cav 1995 1.8 single injection.... 😂 I have a miss fire at idle. Changed everything ignition wise, new coolant sensor, new idle control valve, new 02 sensor, new maf sensor......
    Along with the misfire I also get a bad smell of fuel every now and again! I am steering close to getting the injectior changed it's only one :) I have also checked for air leaks....please note it misfires from cold and normal running temps. Also changed the fuel filter :/ please if anyone can help it would be much appreciated!!

      Morning Del, I hope we can find the fault for you, hmm there are a couple of things we can check, before we change parts, first off we can do two checks in one, if you unplug the crank sensor (plug should be on the top left near the oil filler cap if your filler is on the drivers side of the engine, then check all 4 of your spark plugs they should be dry do this test when your engine is cold, and turn it over as if your going to start it, you don’t want it to run or try and start, let the engine turn over for about 10 seconds, take note of how the engine turns over it should sound even then re-check your plugs if they are dry then you shouldn’t have a fuel leak from the injector, you could also take the air feed off the manifold and turn the ignition on whilst looking at the injector during the fuel prime stage do this a few times you shouldn’t have any fuel spray out at all but if you do you know the injector is leaking. Try this first and let me know how you get on. There shouldn’t be much to check as most of it you’ve done already 🙂 good luck. Steve.
