Due to the sheer number of times the two teams have played each other in qualifying or tournaments. Sweden also tend to play a British style of football which has plenty of energy and aggression, and the games are usually very keenly-fought.

Sad that Parker only started getting played when he was declining with age. Seems like he could have been the answer to how to play Gerrard and Lampard in the same team. Just think about if England had played a 4-2-3-1 with Parker (as the holding mid) and Gerrard (with freedom to move up and down the pitch) in the 2 and Lampard (pushing forward to join the striker) as the attacking mid. Similar to the way Brozovic worked with Modric and Rakitic in 2018.
Parker was an average player at best. Overated and fortunate to get where he did. You are correct in the role he played. We had the answer to that problem for years before this. His name was Michael Carrick.

Great memories. I was on a night out with some college friends celebrating finishing finals. We left one pub with England a goal up, and arrived at the next just as Sweden were levelling. We saw the rest of the game and cheered England on to a great win. Not sure there will be as many goals today, but the same result would be great. As a Villa I have to admit I enjoyed that Mellberg double.

I´m from Sweden too. I remember Zlatan Ibrahimovic who plays for Sweden International since 2001 before retiring in 2016. In march this year he made comeback for Sweden in World cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Kosovo.

This team was better than people give credit to Parker and Wellbeck were underrated, Wallcott was a world beater on his day, Caroll didnt meet near enough of his potential and the team didnt give a poor showing against an italian team that swatted a decent german team in the semis.
Euro 2012 is viewed as an abject failure but if I remember England was decent... won their group which included Sweden and France, then got outplayed by Italy yes but managed to reach a penalty shootout at 0-0, defended well and had a good mentality. Nothing special, but could get the job done. Throw in Glen Johnson and Lescott and you've got a decent backline. Johnson was one of the best right backs in the premier league at the time, and Cole was the best left back, or do people forget?
