What do you think is worse? Ranking kids to black belt or teaching adults fake knockouts who don’t have the self confidence to ever use it? haha honest question no sarcasm
We are the knights who say...niiiing! Also, something I look for in a martial arts school: do they acknowledge, rather than try to dismiss, one's prior experience/existing techniques? Once, at my previous karate club, it was just me, the instructor, and one other. We were working on the side kick, and the 3rd was doing it the way he'd been taught in Tang Soo Do previously. The instructor then said to him "Okay, so you have your side kick. If you get good at ours as well, you'll have an advantage over us." It was never "No, forget that, this is how you do it properly!"
I always like a dojo that invites students from other schools to their sparring nights. Really good to test the effectiveness of techniques VS people who aren't expecting them.

This was back in the 90's & early 2000's with me BEFORE the internet & social media was born. I couldn't imagine how bad that would play into things. Opening up your dojo to other schools in my experience 100% over time ended up this way EXCEPT for when it was a relative of the dojo who had his own school & they were just pretty much mixing it up to add a new flavor here & there.

I liked the part where the instructor said “chu” and his uke sort of paused and then fell, as if he thought “oh right I’m supposed to fall now”. I look for a martial arts school that is clean above all!

I look for “pressure testing” of what they are teaching, and physical improvement activities. Also, I say y’all have a “highlight video of the day” on the page. Sort of a “best of the worst” if you will. Keep up the good work amigo!
From my experience; the best thing to look for in a self defense / martial arts school that takes itself seriously is how often do they spar, and how do they spar? Is it a free for all or is the teacher showing a handful of selected techniques this week or month then wanting to see you apply & counter them in sparring against each other? etc. etc. builds more knowledge than whiffing at air!
I didn't shop around at all and was very lucky. My daughter goes to a gym with no chi and a very supportive second family. The competition trophies on display are ridiculous. There is a demo team that knows their stuff. We were able to spend a week with the school before we spent a dime. All the above made my decision easy. There was evidence of learning, there was evidence of effective techniques, and the classes were very well structured. That was two years ago and the gym continues to improve. About a month ago, the owner said he wanted to show me something and brought me his phone. It was a McDojo Life video.
The best martial arts school I ever walked in...Day One the head instructor says, "There's nothing mystical, magical or secret going on here. Nothing I can teach you that you may not be able to find elsewhere. If you want to be successful here it'll take time and sweat equity." First week was free. He also said that he wasn't the instructor for everyone and if he wasn't for you that you should find who and what was. Humble and honest. As far as your website I'd like to see you share some videos of good, legitimate martial artists from various systems. Doesn't have to be all mma. Just decent instructors doing their best to legitimately help their students.
I'm a Police Officer and yesterday I was arrested a suspect who was resisting. I shouted "Me" but it didn't work so I just stuck to my jiujitsu skills 😊
What I looked for in a martial arts school, for my kids, was a school where they taught practical self defense techniques with an open mind and where the children were having fun. Why? You may ask. Because any half decent martial arts school can teach the fundamentals. What makes someone successful is that the enjoy it, internalize it, stick with it and feel free to explore different techniques. It worked I chose the Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun school because I watched their classes and while they taught traditional Wing Chun, they also focused on the practical aspects of self defense and made sure that the kids could handle themselves in real self defense situations. My daughter advanced and became the only teenager in the adult class and then went on to train in Krav Maga with a professional bouncer as her sparring partner. My martial arts background is fairly diverse and the instructors allowed me work with them exploring different techniques and from different arts with open minds and without ego, just for the love of the arts. That's the real key to becoming a successful martial artist, love of the arts.
A good school has regular sparring where people aren’t trying to kill each other, but also aren’t just tapping each other, they have competition participants, they have a good camaraderie and friendly people
Question: Why do they feint and always fall "backwards"? Never forward, sideways, always with someone ready behind them to catch & pat them down instantly back to awareness.
The school I go to is run by a great guy. He's aware of all this "energy" stuff and denounces it. We do learn "pressure points", but he makes it clear it's really hitting nerve clusters not "chakra points". And unlike these videos, he has us try it on each other (safely) to get a feel on how to use them, so I know he's not teaching BS. And unlike Mr. Mark over here, he's an actual Tang Soo Do instructor.
As someone who’s been doing martial arts since Daniel San visited Okinawa, I recommend to people looking for their first school to treat it like buying a new/used car. Figure out what you want out of it first. Are you after a little city commuter, a people mover for the fam, a sports car, or maybe an off-road vehicle. Then go visit a few schools, have a look around and maybe even take a test drive or two and see if it fits for you. Some people want that hard intense become a fighter type training and others want some physical activity that’s not running or the gym. Some want striking and sparring whilst others hate the idea of anything coming near their head or just want to roll around on the mats with their kids. As for the website, hell, I can’t even think of what to put on mine so I’m gonna be bugger all use to you 😏
Did you have a cleft lip? I just noticed the shape of your top lip there. I always wondered what caused the speech impediment. Is that the reason? Mines is a stammer that flares up if I’m 1 afraid or two flaking out. Can’t get the words out lol
Im trying to use his method of jumping jacks but I can’t figure out how to get my hands above my head without accidentally starting my jumping jacks the wrong way. I wonder if he does training courses I might head down in from Peterborough in the uk 😅
I watch a class and check to see if the instructors have big egos or not. I took a week of BJJ and it was a really good experience. It was a bit rich for my blood though. Don't get me wrong, if I had the disposable cash, I would definitely take the class full time. Hmmm...what would I like to see on the web site? Maybe links to schools that are legit to help spread the good word!
I look for 3 main things when looking for a good martial arts school: Instructors who are experienced and are good teachers, a student body conducive to learning, and real life applicability. The latter is pretty loose, and mainly means no magic bullshit. My enemy doesn't need to share my beliefs in order for my techniques to work, for example.
Honestly, that first back/neck crack rules lol. My husband does it for me sometimes and it works if something is pinched in the neck, but definitely doesn’t help a cold
It would be nice if there's a section in the site where you list articles, news, studies etc from all around the world talking about this topic. There must be things co relating this with delusions in a clinic sense, behaviour analysis crossing this with the Guru/Messias/ForgotTheWordIWantToUse relationship stablished by those who believes in these. Plus, this is a thing all around the world and have been happening since the first martial arts action movie was aired. Here, we call McDojos that can be translated to Fakejutsu. Usually, they don't go this mystical path, but rather go into the Ninja-Spy agent skill level. There's also the self Titled black belts and gran masters of they own martial arts. Nowadays you see less and less of these around here, but there are still some popping out in the country side.
oh now i know why the Knights who say NI ! were unbeatable. they were using their chi voodoo powers on Arthur and his knights. Answer 1 : i m not looking for martial school, so, i dunno. Answer 2 : martial art memes, articles about the good guys of martial arts, a Dillman leaderboard.
What I like to see in a martial arts dojo is the teaching of "self defense" and "self discipline" also since it is "martial arts" the practice of actual teaching the art
YEAH, NEVER FORGET THAT HALF OF "MARTIAL ARTS" IS "ART" THE SELF DEFENCE APPLICATIONS OF KENDO ARE NONE EXISTENT IN THE MODERN DAY, IT IS STILL A MARTIAL ART NONE THE LESS. SO I DO THINK THAT QI GONG AND YOGA COULD BE CONSIDERED MARTIAL ARTS, EVEN THOUGH THE MARTIAL SIDE OF BOTH THESE STYLES IS ALMOST UNKNOWN IN THE MODERN DAY, IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT DOES NOT EXIST, AND NO PART OF THE WORD ART IMPLIES PRACTICALITY, HENCE IT IS NOT CALLED MARTIAL SCIENCE.
The main thing I look for in a Dojo is respectful discipline, as a kid, I was all about training for the UFC, as an adult, I know a bit more about human biomechanics, so I look for respect from both students and master, and traditionally disciplined sparring. Oh and they gotta be teaching ACTUAL martial arts and not magic! 😂
Given that once a chiropractor pulled my elbows back and it made such a crack and I got sick after the session, I'm inclined to believe the cold thing :D
1.. Truthfulness. Long story short, was having an issue at my son's current school and was considering changing. The top two on my list were more expensive and further from our house but when asked about rank both sai my son would have to test. Others basically said he could come in at the rank he was, no testing. Big problem IMO. Even if they're familiar with the other school I feel there should be a test of skill.

What I'm looking for in a martial arts school is good honest training with good teachers ( no mcdojo nonsense ).
What exactly is going with this chi stuff (ie placebo, psychological trick), do you have a video on this?
1:48 which one of your videos was this from? thx
As for the website, hell, I can’t even think of what to put on mine so I’m gonna be bugger all use to you 😏
Wow, chi kung and qigong, impressive to learn the same thing in two different dialects
Did you have a cleft lip? I just noticed the shape of your top lip there. I always wondered what caused the speech impediment. Is that the reason?
Mines is a stammer that flares up if I’m 1 afraid or two flaking out. Can’t get the words out lol
I look for the overall vibe of the students and teachers, and the abilities and scommon sense and sound physics of the techniques being taught
Thanks for this video , i needed a good laugh today.
I want Dillman’s “Ningg” as my text tone. It never gets old.
I have a self defense strategy which involves saying " thats not your purse" and a swift groin kick
1:53 dance with me darling, dance with me!
You cannot blame him for having kids in his classes. Blame the parents of those kids.
Great content as always.
"The sound enhances the attack" reminds me of the sticker that says "this sticker adds 3 horse power"
Every time I hear a list on Bullshido, I hear Dillman saying "Plus" after each item 😂 ➕
Next time I roll with a wrestler I'm getting a collar tie and whispering sweet meeeeeeees in their ear. Can't wait to change the game!
That sacred geometry is deadly!
What I like to see in a martial arts dojo is the teaching of "self defense" and "self discipline" also since it is "martial arts" the practice of actual teaching the art
YEAH, NEVER FORGET THAT HALF OF "MARTIAL ARTS" IS "ART"
THE SELF DEFENCE APPLICATIONS OF KENDO ARE NONE EXISTENT IN THE MODERN DAY, IT IS STILL A MARTIAL ART NONE THE LESS.

My God you are a real piece of work!
Thank you :)
I can't tell if this comment is serious 😅
@@nathanc1300 unfortunately he is serious 😂 he’s the guy in the video
@@McDojoLife 😂😂 i see! Great content sir
@@nathanc1300 thank you. The guy actually challenged me to try it and to fight and I accepted on both counts. He dodged it over and over again.
Lol the phrase "Tang Pseudo" comes to mind.
I feel like if you see the students working together on a drill. It shows they put their stuff to work.
A good thing to look for is an instructor who doesn't have an over inflated ego and is passionate about what they're is teaching
Hahaha Jukka Lampila is going world wide with his EFO 😂
Best thing to look for is they haven't been featured on McDojo.
My alarm clock effects my chi and it forces me to sleep in.
Have you seen my baseball?
I remember one time I convinced a group of people that I had chi powers,
then the recess bell rang and we went back inside to color. We were 5.
Thanks for another great vid man. The 'Q' in qigong is pronounced more like a 'ch' sound :)
4:51 I could never train under someone with a gut that big..
