    Thank you so much for this, this is the only EPP tutorial that was easy enough for me (a near total beginner) to do! ❤ enjoyed the cute relaxing music too :)

    I have just started sewing hexagons after being gifted a project started by a lady who had passed away. Never done it before, but am using very fine blanket stitch instead of whip stitch. It shows on the right side of the fabric, but looks so beautiful am happy to keep doing it.

    fiskars Hexie x-L SQueeze Punch are great to recycle all your junk mail postcard type paper into hundreds of hexies. Five-Inch square Charm packs can be cut easily into 2 1/2 squares. 1 five inch will make 4 squares to cover 4 hexie shapes. You can trim the corners later. ALSO, if you punch a small circular hole or heart in the center of the punched paper it will help easily release the paper/recycled postcard when it's times to pull out the hexie paper template with a small cuticle type stick

    May I add something? You make little stitches even with a large needle; but using a thinner cotton thread and a finer needle will make invisible stitches lots easier for people who are struggling. A 60 or even 80 weight cotton thread with a sharp or milliner's (straw) needle makes tinier stitches. As you become practiced try a smaller size needle. You make me think of skipping the step of trimming the corners of the square. And maybe basting without piercing my paper template... Thanks for the video!

      @GatheredMakes  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Daniel - you are so right. We used big thread to help it show up on film but a finer thread will produce far less visible results for those stitching at home and not for the camera. Thanks for the tip!

    Lovely job but if you'll use a Styla glue pen to glue down your edges, it will go much faster and easier.

    Is there any need to cut the basting stitches because they won't be seen when the backing goes on?

    • @GatheredMakes
      @GatheredMakes  Год назад

      Frances, call us perfectionistic if you like! But you are right, if you are backing, this is probably shippable unless you have a perfectionist brain....

    • @bekketdragon

      It makes it easier to get the paper out. You’ll notice she doesn’t cut all of them, just enough to be able to pop the hexies out at the end of the project.

      Thanks for this tutorial. I picked up a part done project in a charity shop. All paper pieces, all cut pieces of fabric in diamond shape. A half finished project by someone. It's now being finished at home and watching this beginners video really has helped me. I can foresee more paper piece projects will be done now. 👍🏻

    This takes way too long. You can use a glue stick instead. See Tula pinks videos for how to english paper piece. Theres a series on how to do it very quickly with no clips or sewing it like in this video.

      Good Lord! Not EVERYTHING is supposed to be at the speed of light--the "get it done, no matter what, RIGHT NOW, and on to the next!" Clearly, you don't understand the collective desire over hundreds of years to preserve cultural histories gone before? Are you blind to generations of valuable work? Particularly "women's work?"
