- 🇻🇳 This has downright got to be one of the weirdest places I've ever visited in Vietnam. Although time in Asia tends to be quite relative, and especially here in Vietnam, people go outside at all times of day, whether it be for coffee in the morning, work during the day, beer in the evening, or middle of the night for a late night snack. But one thing I'd never thought I'd find would be a flower market that only opens at 2am. Why, I asked? Join me as we explore this interesting random place, and figure out the mystery of this midnight market.

She understood your question but you did not understand her answer. It it a whole sale market. The retail buyers mainly come from small towns. They have to pick up the products (i.e: flowers) early so they can transport the products back to the small towns to sell the fresh flowers or other fresh products in the morning since most of the markets open at daytime.

Have seen all videos after this one, so working my way back in time. About 5 years ago I wanted to spend a year in Vietnam but totally flaked and returned after 10 days with anxiety. So, glad you seem to be doing so well.

Great video. Flower markets all around the world tend to open around 2AM. It's so there is time to distribute them city wide for the days needs. Weddings, Funerals, Street level stores. It's the same with anything fresh like fish and a few other products. Thanks for showing us.🤠

Dude you saw how effed up the heat is over here during summer, and those are freshly cut flowers that need to be delivered all over the place across the town. There's literally no way to get them fresh when the sun comes up though

It's a wholesale market, only for retailers, very common in Australia.
We call these wholesale markets here in the U.S. Flower markets all over the world work like this. Their main customers are the flower stores that most of us shop at during the day. That's why they sell large bunches for stores to sell. Food markets work the same way. Every major city (here in the U.S.) has vegetable, fruit, etc. markets open only in the early morning hours for wholesale trade. Glad you finally found some nice people to chat with. You might be weird Chris, but weird in a good way for sure.
Years back I used to go to wholesale produce markets in USA. They would open at 4:00 AM & close at 10:00 AM. They also sold flowers. If it is still like that I don't know. Was in Vietnam during the war. Had an Interpretor so I only learnt a little Vietnamese.
Worked some with the Koreans. The Korean interpretor taught me some of their language so I could work with them if he wasn,t there. Enjoy your videos.

There are several "chợ đầu mối" like this around Hanoi. These markets provide many kinds of goods to various smaller local markets in Hanoi

Yes, the wholesale markets are open very early in the morning just liked the fish markets.

I have been to Vietnam with my friend in 2003 and again in 2006. But my vietnamese is still poor you and your friend Max are super smart in vietnamese language. Keep up the great videos. I will return to Vietnam again someday. Best Wishes. Arthur Budd.
Vietnamese is difficult due to the intonations. Once you master them, you will find it easy, as grammar is non existent. There are no plural, no verb tenses. For example: tomorrow I go to market, yesterday I go to market. You guess the tense by the adverbs at the beginning of the sentence.

more likely opens at 2am due to heat and sun and also the vendors sell in bulk to florists who are going to want the flowers fresh as possible when they open in the day. I wouldn't think they last as long in a hot humid country

Yes, open early so the actual retail places can get prior to their opening. Kinda like a fish market.
Try Long Biên market, around 9pm trucks comming and the market operate whole night until early morning.

Cám ơn Chris đã cho xem cảnh sinh hoạt từ... 2 giờ sáng ở chợ đầu mối chuyên bán sỉ Hoa ở Hà Nội, có lẽ hơi giống chợ hoa Hồ Thị Kỷ ở Sài Gòn. Có điều thú vị là trong "mùa bóng đá" thì các quán to hay nhỏ nào cũng phải có một cái TV có lẽ vì khách hàng cũng như chủ quán đều không muốn bỏ lỡ trận đấu nào, nhất là bầu khí hò la sôi nổi để... "cổ võ... gà nhà" :) Thấy Chris có vẻ lo lắng vì sợ xe máy của mình... "không cánh mà bay... mất tiêu" nên khoá kỹ như vậy, nhưng Chris ơi, đối với "trộm... chuyên nghiệp" thì khoá mấy cũng chỉ cần... vài giây là chúng mở được ngay ; bởi vậy mình nghĩ cách an toàn nhất là nên làm thêm một khóa thứ hai bằng "công-tắc giây điện" rồi dấu kỹ ở chỗ nào trên xe chỉ mình biết ; để nếu trộm có mở hoặc bẻ được khoá xe thì cũng không thể nổ máy để... "dzọt lẹ", nhưng chỉ có thể... "dắt xe đi" , như vậy thì trộm nào cũng đành... "bỏ xe" để chạy thoát thân ! Chúc Chris thành công với cách khoá xe này để... thoải mái đi quay video khám phá những cái mới lạ ở Việt Nam cho bà con ở khắp thế giới cùng xem ! :)

Chợ hoa này trước đây bán các loại hoa ở ngay một số làng hoa quanh hồ Tây, như làng hoa Ngọc Hà, Nhật Tân, Quảng Bá, Nghi Tàm. Có 1 bài hát rất hay về các làng hoa này là "Mùa xuân, làng lúa, làng hoa" bạn có thể tìm nghe cả bản cũ và bản mới. Interesting but the lady in the market understood your question perfectly well. Wholesale markets across the world always open very early because retailers buying the produce take it away to resell it or process it when their own businesses open later in the day.
Chợ hoa Quảng An. Đây là nơi tập kết sản phẩm của người nông dân và được bán buôn cho các cửa hàng bán lẻ. Các cửa hàng bán lẻ muốn bán hoa cho khách vào sáng sớm thì phải đi nhập hoa từ ban đêm. Họ ít mặn mà với bạn vì họ biết bạn chỉ mua số lượng ít chứ không mua nhiều 😂. Ngoài ra còn có chợ hoa quả Long Biên cũng mở cửa từ 2h sáng. Chợ bán buôn người ta gọi là chợ đầu mối.

Thực ra chị bán hoa đã trả lời Crit rồi mà, chị ấy nói là đây là chợ đầu mối có nghĩa là chợ bán buôn cho những người kinh doanh hoa ở các chợ khác hoặc các cửa hàng hoa , nên họ phải bán sớm để những người đi mua còn về kịp bán hàng sáng sớm thôi ! Ở Việt Nam vùng nào cũng có những chợ đầu mối như thế , chợ thì bán hoa, chợ thì bán nông sản , hải sản ,gia cầm, gia súc và thường là hoạt động từ giữa đêm đến sáng sớm như vậy !

I think you didn't understand her answers. What she mean is people (mostly seller) come there in the early morning to buy flower then bring them to the retail market to sell in the morning. "Chợ đầu mối" is a market that supplies goods to other market.

Hey fellow Chris. I went to Hanoi right before the pandemic and loved it. I was thinking of learning Vietnamese and then life started to happen. Do you have any tips on learning the language? My second language is Japanese from living in Tokyo for the past 4 years and want to pick up a third but I’m missing the essential “just go around and talk to people” aspect. Do you know any sources for learning online? Specific RUclips channels and such. How did you learn the language yourself. Im sure you get this comment often but I just found your channel today and don’t want to go through a hundred videos of comments to find an answer. Cảm ơn!

Đây là chợ đầu mối mà em. Chợ đầu mối phải mở từ rất sớm để các thuơng lái, tiểu thương đến lấy hàng chở đi khắp nơi khác bán. Chợ đầu mối là như vậy nếu không sớm thì sẽ không kịp đưa hàng đi các nơi khác.
