I didn’t go to uni also. I was a self taught programmer and after 10 years developing, I realised I hated developing apps for companies. I switched to QA automation and it was the best decision I made. Same money, less hours.
I got into QA with a company that offered it as a starter course then an paid internship with placements into other companies and government projects and if everything goes well I’ll be hired as an apprentice for two years. Really enjoy this field!
Have you done any QA in game testing? I've seen posts for those jobs that they want you to know JIRA. This could be a good entry level for QA and also getting into games.
They really could be trying to make that process full with a job they give you to test, but it's described as writing assert functions. So we fine if your friend has a better luck with a job nobody knows about as much as there are results for a query php or C#.
I plan on going the Udemy/self taught and getting ISTQB certification. What step would you recommend after that? Building up a portfolio for interviews?
After that, I would recommend preparing for interviews by creating a portfolio as you said - yes! However, it is really beneficial to know as much as you can about general computing. To really help, you could potentially look at getting basic knowledge on: • How the internet works • The world of web • Manual testing vs automated testing • One programming language • Continuous integration testing Let me know if this helps! And if you want a video on a specific topic of testing - just ask!
Today I started diving deep into it as it interests me but when I googled about it, there is actually a difference between software tester and QA, i am confused lol
My question is why do I need to learn coding? I am supposed to be testing the application from different aspects, so why the coding? Also, what languages I need to learn (if I have to), and to what level? does it depend on the application I am testing? e.g. if I am testing an application that is written in Python, then I need to know Python, if it is Java, then I need to know Java, correct?
Is there a QA community group on Discord or anywhere else where we can ask questions and encourage others to keep going? I am doing a self-study approach to software testing and I would love to be surrounded by other individuals in this career to be encouraged and motivated. ❤
"QA Tester" exists, but the role falls under Quality Control category. So I'd say just "Tester". There is "QA Engineer" role and "Tester" on the market. As well as QA is not about "testing". Not only, let us put this way. As well as manual QA Engineer can not have "a very little technical expertise" nowadays. One programming language (Python / C) is a must. I am sorry :-)
What do you recommend for fresh master of informatics? I already tried cypress, selenium, puppeteer as student worker for corporate. But now I'm without any job as I graduated and I'm interested into becoming QA Engineer. Thanks in advance.
Hey, thanks for your comment! I recommend getting really good at one or two coding languages. It sounds like you already have a good amount of experience and the next thing would probably look at creating a project to show off your skills. I’d also recommend on getting a book on QA. Hope this helps :)
I'm sorry, but I hate the background music so much. I mean I only wanna get an answer to my question, not a concert. It doesn't help to listen on 2x either.

Is it hard to become a tester? I badly wanted to be one but I'm not sure if I'm gonna make it. I just graduated and I suck at coding 😢
Same, I'm about to start an online QA course soon, hoping to learn alot and Penrith land a decent job afterwards who knows
@@Tigerclaw1760 not really, no. If you've got experience in code, take a look at playwright and do some automated testing.
Whats up guys. I am thinking of becoming QA. How’s it. Does it pay good? Can sort of advice would be great
@@rohitajariwall market is really bad rn

Not gonna lie you said a bunch of nothing, no tips or information on how to actually get the experience or where to learn
Thanks Callum! Great advice.
Can you please share which testing tools, testing frameworks, programming languages you use or that are used in the QA Automation Engineer field?
Hi, I’ll make a video in the new year on this. Thanks for your comment! 🫶
He gave you a whole idea. Shouldve just answered him
