I lived and studied in Jerusalem and have had the blessing of going to the shepherds' fields outside of Bethlehem. I frequently think about the shepherds who attended Christ's birth and what they witnessed. I found the point made about shepherds witnessing the firstborn lambs who would likely be sacrificed in the Jerusalem temple, and then witnessing Christ's birth to be particularly insightful.
