I had a chow chow for 15 years. He saved my life, three different times. He was my best friend ever. Pillsbury, died rightt after my husband. My heart was broken.

Very stubborn and aloof but there is no doubt he will protect the family. Seen him square up on what he perceives as threats. With that said, be careful with strangers around them.
We just lost our Rotty/Chow-Chow mix after 10.5 years. Damn cancer! He was true to the Chow-Chow nature of things by being the most stubborn, hard-headed dog I've ever seen. He was also the laziest dog I've ever seen. However, I guess the Rotty part kicked in, as he was super easy to socialize. He loved everyone that came over to the house or the yard...if invited (uninvited was a different story) to come in by a family member...then you were a lifelong friend. He loved kids as well. Actually, he was the gentlest dog I've ever seen as well. RIP, Duke.
I’ve had 4 chows. Definitely not a good breed for first-time dog owners but my first dog was a chow because he was being given away by his first owners. But if you’re willing to put in the time to understand the breed and socialize them, it’s fine to get a chow even if you’ve never had one before.
@@unusualplants2162 I don’t think they get sick often but it would obviously depend on the individual dog. And “often” is subjective as well. They cannot live in tropical climates unless you are willing and able to keep them indoors with air conditioning on. Chows overheat easily with all that fur and shaving them is bad for their coat.
Thank you for the great and honest video. I used to have a chow, who was very well trained. It was a difficult, but rewarding work. She was a stubborn, but a very well behaved dog. She indeed was not interested in playing with kids, who were fascinated with bear fluffy looks. She didn't show aggression towards strangers, but also didn't follow any on the steer and didn't try to jump on guests and play with them. And this is actually why I appreciated her character. This was a dog, who didn't make mess and stupid things. Now we are choosing a new puppy, and I are thinking about petting a poodle as a family dog, but when I see their jumping nature, how nervous they are and that they cannot stay alone, that drives me crazy. I miss my elegant and self-confident chow chow.
Very similar personality as my male Shiba, except he is very food motivated and is not wary of strangers. He’s just very stubborn, aloof and independent.
I have a 2 years old Chow Chow, Jin. You just nailed every aspect of his personality and our relationship. He’s so independent and requires you to be alert around other (male) dogs. On the other hand Jin is just wonderful with people and kids. I think that having my nieces playing with him since he was a puppy has been key to this. I would just add that I don’t think this is not a good breed for cities. Jin really enjoys 1hr-2hr walks and the more countryside I can take him too the more he enjoys. I couldn’t love him more.
I had male and female siblings. When it came to people and dogs polar opposites...she was wary of people but friendly to dogs, he was friendly with people but want to assert dominance on dogs his size or larger, dominance on smaller dogs was a given. The biggest issue I had with them was the occasional wars...although he was dominate with others she was the Alpha...or as I like to describe it an Alpa's Alpha. Not only was she Alpha she was a berzerker once triggered she wouldn't shutdown...easily. I would often have to hold them apart to 10-15mins otherwise she would force another fight. Given her nature of high-level of Alpha she occasionally would challenge me and I would have to impose my will reinforcing my dominance over her. She was not the dog for a first time chow owner.
My chow retriever Little Bear was strictly a one person no animal dog. She adored me and was quick to listen to me, like how she house trained in one evening, although if I went outside she would grab my ankle and try to drag me back into the house. Bear was my soul sister and lived 16 years. I miss her.
I knew a chowchow in Istanbul. He spend his whole day with his owner at an outdoor sports equipment shop in front of a narrow busy (people&cars) street. He was a calm great dog.
Just one thing. My 4 year old son is getting along with my 1.5 year old chow chow. They play together, never had any issues. My chow chow sees my son as the alpha. This breed is great with children IF AND ONLY IF SOCIALIZED to different types of situations. If we take her to the mall/park to meet other dogs, whenever we feel like she's testing other dogs, we always let her know that she's not the alpha, we (humans) are. Then they submit, then they'll be good dogs for the rest of the day. Just be sure to let them know that YOU are in charge.
Alpha dogs is a myth. The dogs at the top of the pack are the breeding animals, the mother and father. And dogs don't compete for a "alpha" position via any bouts of any sort. At around 9 months in the wild the wolf will leave its pack and seek out a mate with another wolf that left its pack and start a family, thus making them the leader of their own pack. David mech, scientist, and wolf researcher, the guy who came up with the alpha wolf theory , later in 1999 came out to say that he was wrong about alpha wolves, and that the leaders of the pack are the parents.
As a chow owner this is an informative video that is quite true to their character, except the grooming advice, that’s so wrong in so many levels! Never shave your chow, that will destroy their coasts for ever and cause all kind of coat problems, and never use a ferminator!! Proper grooming tips were given by Tom David on his podcast with a professional groomer. She will go into the various coat types and why this kind of grooming mr. Chow is receiving is awful! However, I hate to tell it to you and the owner, but this is not a pure bred chow. It’s most visible in the eye colour. No chow had blue eyes, but in all cases are the eyes dark. Moreover, the tail should be high set, carried well over the back. The tail of mr chow is way to flowy. My conclusion is that this is a chow mix, with probably husky back in his lineage. I hope your breeder mentioned this, and didn’t sell him as a pure bred, because then you were taken for a ride…
Yes, totally agree on the grooming & parentage as husky x Chow He doesn't appear to be purebred. His tongue isn't that typical dark purple color either. I've never heard of a Chow with blue eyes. He has a tail set more like a husky / Collie Also he moves more like a husky. A typical Chow has a very distinctive gate unlike most dogs.
Not all Chows are the same. Mine loves being near at all times & loves my older grandsons. They aren't toddlers but he sure shows deep affection that is true&loyal..A great family member and perhaps it's because you get what you give.
My Chow is the same, I work from home and he sits outside my office all day, he loves my boys and loves a cuddle and play BUT i wish I could have him off lead, he would be like a balloon and never to be seen again.
My chow chow was a fluffy pillow of hatred, vengance and a hint of bitterness with stranger people and dogs, at home a tolerant angel, as a gardian ....well... People could emptyes owr home if home alone, but if only one on house to defend, he was literally a killing machine, once i was home only with him i was 11yrs, some one get in the patio and i was sleeping , well the "visitor" was startled and ran fornhis life and close the door as fast as he could and my dog crashed on the door trying to take it down and a screeam of terror was heard😂😂😂 was epic and scary . We dont know how this person opened that door. Also hired a nanny (when tis was not a thing yet in mexico)for him when on vacations, he knew the people was there to clean and feed so he let them alone, never tryed to bite or anything, he lived 15 years cancer took him😢😢. Y loved that dog❤❤❤❤ this are very loyal dogs.
I have had Chow Chows for 37 years and my daughter also had a pair . They are the most beautiful ,loyal dogs you could find . They do need to be trained well and they need to be treated as a family members with much respect. The one thing I would recommend against is getting a half breed. You are asking for trouble. Make sure the line is pure or they can turn vicious even with proper training. My Chows have lived with Himalayan cats and cockatoos over the years with no problems. They all live with us in the house together as one big happy family.. Get good grooming equipment and brushes and that makes it easy to take care of them and doesn't take very long. I use harnesses and a lead rather than a collar and a lead as it gives you better control and also doesn't mess up their fur as badly.
Owned Dobermans for 30 years. Adopted a 2mo Chow/Pit mix (DNA profiled 40/40) after fostering her. We couldn’t let her go b/c she is so sweet and affectionate. She’s about 5mo now and is a 180 from my Dobies but they play great together and also other dogs /people that have been playing with our Dobie. We train her everyday and she learns a lot from our 4yo female Dobie. Learning about her Chow traits as a WIP.
Absolutely right description! I grew up with Chows. My Chow I owe now is the first of them which I socialized properly and I train a lot with. One of our former chows (I hadn’t any knowledge about dogs) was a literal killing machine ! She killed all neighbor cats, ducks, one time a pregnant sheep, she even tried attacking horses. One underestimate this dog cause of its Teddy Look. With my current chow I train every day since years, but still the recall is not on point. She stubborn as hell and how u said , neither toy drive (at all, even as baby) nor strong food drive! The intensity of training with my chow - if I would train a Doberman Pinscher or German shepherd equally like my Chow- believe me, they would be incredible well behaved and on point. I believe that with a chow you can train as much as you want - it will never be same level as a Sheperd/Doberman/terrier etc … that’s just the nature of that breed !
I have a chow chow as a first time dog owner. He's great with other dogs - not fazed by aggression and doesn't impose his dominance. I put it all down to hiring an excellent dog behaviourist to educate us on how to treat him: socialising from day one and using extremely firm and consistent corrections. If you feel bad correcting a dog or don't have the energy for consistency it's probably not the right dog for you. If you want constant cuddles and attention it isn't either. They are loyal and like occasional cuddles but it's subtle.
My first best friend was a beautiful red coated, blue ribbon, show Chow. His name was Indiana Red Band. I called him Indi. ❤️ He was born on my bday and we were the same age. He was given to me by my aunt when I was 9 years old and he died from a brain tumor when we were 13. 😞 He loved me but he definitely hated my younger brother and did actually bite him several times. He didn’t like strangers or children though he tolerated them fairly well. My whole family always had chows and so they have a special place in my heart. So unique!
I had a chow that was 5 years old when my nephew was born. Not my kid, not living in my house. Rocky was the most defensive dog I've ever known... but he would let that kid ride him around like a horse. Best nanny dog ever... I know that might not be typical, I'm just saying that they CAN be great family dogs. I miss Rocky 😢
That hair cut will destroy his coat. It just will. Its a shame to cut his coat so short especially since he's so young. Obviously it wont harm the dog unless you're taking him to extreme wet and cold, but it will grow back increasingly patchy and less resistant to the elements. Short term gain for long term pain.
DUDE! they are red, blue, black, cream, cinnamon. WTF is wrong with the coat on that dog??? THEY DO NOT GET CUT OR WHATEVER YOU CALL THAT TRIM. OMG 😱. 36 years of Chow parenting. This is awful
Goes to show that despite this guy's channel having so many subs, he has absolutely missed the mark with the Chow Chow breed on this video.. I'm a current Chow Chow owner and doesn't take much research to know that you DO NOT shave the coat. Even cutting too short can mess it up for life. The coat is part of its pride. I feel for this Chow in this video.😢
Can't believe you cut his hair , it's an absolute no no , the double coat protects him ,the only reason i you ever cut the coats is for medical reasons in the advice of your vet,
@Kaa864 it protects their skin from the sun the cold and the weather they are also far more prone to skin cancers when Thier coat is cut ,it's rule one line one with a double coated dog , you do not cut the coat.
My boy was around 70% Staffie, 20% Chow, 10% other and 100% my ride or die. He was friendly to friendly people, ready to throw down if required, never wanted to be away from me, but could only cuddle for a couple minutes. Kids loved to see the blue/black spots on his tongue while saying, "he looks just like Scooby". We had nearly a 10 year run together. RIP, Brother.
The love Chow Chow. I’ve had 4 Shar Pei and the temperament and the aloofness and stubbornness can be challenging but it if you work with the dog you will have a great dog. xoxo
Start them off with luring. Teach them to follow your hand and reward them for it. Luring can turn into a heel position, sit, down, stand, between the legs, spin, left, right. Probably the most important first thing to teach a dog. And make him work for his kibble. Train him with his kibble from the day you get it. And feed him at the same time everyday. Also don't start adding a verbal command to a behavior until the behavior you want them to do on command is perfect. For example don't add the word sit, until your dog can listen to the hand signs perfectly without confusion. Then when you're teaching them the verbal you want to say the verbal, let it wait a second, then guide then down with your hands, and you want lots and lots of Repetitions with anything you train them in. It takes 600-1000 Repetitions for a dog to master a trick. Also touch your dog allot, everywhere, its important they get desensitized to touch at a early age. And let lots of people touch him. Socializing and desensitization is a big part of getting a obident dog. My husky is 9 months old and he can off leash heel, and listens to my commands while we're walking.
My Chow Chow Sammy was the best Guard Dog ever, Dont get her Beautiful look fool you, she will bite any stranger that will get near her. She has to be walk with a leash all the time. I love walking her at night because she always watch my back, always alert , looking behind our back if someone stalking us, always aware, growling if any strangers passing by. RIP, Sammy our Guardian Angel. People always call her a "Lion"...
@@peterkincaid6406Yes I agree a chow chow needs a lot of discipline and socialization. Yet they have the instinct to guard and to protect because they are one of a kind dog..They are Beautiful though..💖💖...
My childhood neighbor had a Chow. What a jerk that dog was. Always running along the fence barking, trying to dig under it, overall being a nuisance. The owner never did anything.
I think my chow chow is a golden retriever is disguise. If there's one dog that loves attention from people and is super friendly it's my chow. I thought he'd be a bit standoffish but he's perfect. Still independent but very attached to me.

I have a Chow Mal. He is a wonderful dog who seems to think he is a police dog and my body guard. Yes! He is a lot of dog! He is 1 now and after lots of hard work he is perfect in a Chow way. He is always defending the castle from strangers which is great but sometimes it can be tough to calm him down. I have also had trainers ask me if I knew what I was doing when I got this dog. He used to be aggressive with dogs and strangers. I had to take him to a huge dog park/beach every week for a year so he could get used to meeting other dogs with time he has slowly gotten better with strangers or dog owners too. Now I can take him to smaller dog parks but if a dog don't respect his space they will know. As they say it's all about socializing. We also have two tiny dogs lesss than 10 pounds and I think that makes him enjoy being with the pack. I love my Chow Mal! Chows will always protect you and are most loyal dogs I have ever had. If anything or anyone seems to threaten me my Chow Mal will do anything to stop them by cornering them or getting between us without actually biting but growling and barking loudly.
Great video and explication of a unique breed. I loved learn more about the Chow Chow. I’ve only met one personally in my past. How/what did you find to be his motivation? If Food/Praise/Love/Toys don’t tweak his drive to learn, what did?
My dog is part chow, part pitty part GSD. She LOVES to please though, pitty and her mutly mix. But her hard headedness does come out. (She's a perfect pitty who sheds twice a year)
Just a question. What do you think about a Chow Chow mixed with German Shepard? I have one. The chow chow was a crash course for me. But we have a Bond that can't be broken. She has the eyes of the chow but the color of the German Shepard. Weight wise she is right at 40lds for the female chow. And yes she's aloff of strangers. She is just right for me. And I am wanting to get another one after she's gone. I love the chow and German Shepard mix temperament.
I myself have a Chow German Shepard mix. I love the personality of both breeds in one dog. I had experience with German Shepard but the chow part of mine was a crash course. But we now have a great bond with each other. Mine is getting up in age and I want to find another one that is mixed with German Shepard and Chow Chow. But I want another female. But that's a great question to ask what he thinks about one that is mixed with German Shepard and Chow Chow. I love mine. She is the best dog that I have had.

I would say it is a crap shoot. My experience with Chows is they can be very different temperment wise dog to dog, probably with a mix that is amplified.
Do not hurt him in any way. Unintentional or not. Chows will remember it. A doctor took my dogs temperature in his bottom. My chow never let me touch his bottom again. Same with his nails. My wife cut too deep. Now he won't give us his paws. Socialize him at a very young age and often. Don't worry about keeping them away from germs. It's rare. Let every person in the family handle them at a young age. Try to not let him get attached to one person.
I grew up with a Chow Chow back in late 70's - 80's. We inherited a young adult male that had no formal training or socialization. Despite his lack of training in obedience he was naturally well behaved. He never countered surfed / raided the trash, barked for no reason, never jumped up or chewed on anything. He was a great easy going dog to live with in that respect I tried to train him obedience as best as I could for inexperienced 6-7yr old. He learned fairly quick simple commands; sit, down, recall & a few tricks such as; roll over & paw. But every was really on his terms when it came to recall, stay & loose leash walking. If you had something he really wanted at the time he would do it but if something else was more exciting he became deaf. LOL Chows are extremely loyal dogs often bonding to one person deeply for life. Ours was no exception & he never forgot his first owner. If he had the chance he would escape & run to find his old owner. This happened 3 times over the 14 years we owned him. It didn't matter if the owner moved to 3 towns away he found him. It was really amazing his devotion I am a complete animal lover. When I first met our Chow I thought he was a walking teddy bear. I must of been a complete shock to him as this little toddler clinging on to him & hugging him. He never showed any aggression towards me. He was instead always looking out for me & following me around. He slept by me & I normally was leaned up against him. He wasn't affectionate like a Golden Retriever but in his own reserved way showed his loved. He never rolled his tolerance to me over to other children. Not even within our family. Visitors especially he had no tolerance for a child touching him while eating or napping. He bite most of my family members for this reason. If you left him alone while eating or didn't bother him while sleeping he was fine with visitors. He basically would just ignore them. While being very territorial & protective he didn't bark needlessly. He didn't bother barking at normal every day non threats such as; mail man or neighbors walking by Chows can become very possessive of food & toys. This should be worked with while still young. Also they are very territorial & anywhere they are currently stand is considered their territory. I learned so much about dog's from him. He really was a great dog & I still admire his devotion
Had a black chow when married, 1997-2006. ( Actually he died in 2003, wife opened the street side door & Noka was blind. ) He was a handful but he was loyal and sweet but just to my ex-wife & I. When we had company, he had to be locked in a bedroom. Not good with kids. Looked like a circus bear though. Had rabbit in his blood. He took off every chance he got. I'd never have one again. Have a bulldog mix now & Chloe is the best dog ever.
I got mine when he was 6 weeks old. The best dog ever very strong will, but as you are Willing to be the boss. They'll be okay .No they will better then ok😊😊😊
I had a chow and they’re just too protective or at least mine was. He wouldn’t let anyone get near me, raise their voice near me, etc,. Great one owner dog but I wouldn’t recommend one for a family. May it was just mine but I had a friend who had one while not as bad as mine was still over protective.
I grew up with chow chows and border collies. From childhood to adult I have had 5 chows. Early chows did not have “training” they were house pets and one dog at a time. They were terrific - never bit anyone, loyal to family and loved car rides. As an adult my chows were farm dogs with in a group of other dogs - small fluffiest to an English mastiff. Again all great dogs - never vicious - great with my babies and toddlers. Interestingly, we are in Australia, and one of my chows had entropians - our vet had done his eye surgery training in the US. When we brought our chow into his surgery he said he wouldn’t see our dog without a muzzle due to his experience in the US. He soon came around to the different temperament of the Aussie bred chows. However with the international breeding now it would be difficult to say one country has a different line of breeding to another. They are the best dogs ❤️ Haha so are border collies ❤️
Lol right haha. "Yeah I've never owned ---- breed if dog but somehow I have loads of experience with that particular breed hahaha that doesn't make any sense ❤️
CoowChoW s are unique. They are protective and stuborn. M chow chow wasnt affraid of nothig when it came to family. But it growled against my cousins when it had swine bone in mouth. And it bit my cousins and after that me. But theni nearly choked it and she stoped, After that she loved my cousins. and me
Í once had a SHiba Inu and now own a Japanese Akita (together with a white German Shepherd). Both Japanese breeds are similar personality wise to the Chow Chow. No will to please, low food and toy drive (though the Shiba has the highest out of the 3 and actually loves to learn and do tricks etc if the owner knows how to handle them). My Akita however just doesn't play. Never. Only sometimes with my other dog or a few dog friends. And her food drive is, well, not there either lol. If she's not in the mood you could hold a steak in front of her nose and she would be too proud to eat it. Though those dogs are still very dedicated to their owners and can, if one knows how, be trained. It's actual work but worth it. My Akita can be off leash and her prey drive is under full control (if a hare jumps out the grass in front of her nose she does not react at all though she had an intense prey drive before my training). I don't even use e- or prong collars as they are forbidden in Germany but I use balanced methods. They will never be like your Border Collie and SHepherd doing commands and jumping over agility hurdles but they can be very obedient and actually really easy dogs. By easy I mean they don't need much. Once trained, they are a dream and just there for you. No need to work, just enjoying life and be your best friend. They are not for everyone but if you are the type of person for these dogs, they are the absolute best and extremely loyal.

We only have Chows Chows the last 35 years amazing breed but not for scrubs / new dog owners only because they don't know the breed and do the correct homework on them aka training and grooming etc. A chow will lose respect and trust in owners if they don't treat them with respect yelling etc and you must be the leader of the pack and a strong stable leader or you will get fights etc. With chows it all depends on personality and how they are raised so I disagree on chows not doing well with kids because some of our chows are amazing with kids others not so much over the years. In truth kids need training to if they are going to be around chows or any dogs as they do things to dogs to provoke a nip or bite.We always have two chows a male and a female but at a time but this time we have three as we were on a list for the youngest and she was born before my senior crossed over and that's ok.
I would agree. His tail is not a proper Chow tail. A chow tail remains curled at all times. He is more Chow than anything else, but not a pure breed. Unfortunately, this awful cut also makes him look very non Chow. Taking a closer look at him I would venture to guess that there is husky in him. Explains the eye colour (breed standard is always brown/black) and the floofy tail
Yes. My first chow was very athletic and could maintain a 6:15 minute mile pace for over six miles(at around 50 to 52 pounds); most people who say chows are lazy treat them that way, but with regular exercise they can be very athletic. Even my stockiest Chow could jog at an 8 minute pace for many miles (she was 75 pounds, not fat, a giant for a female). My current two are both good joggers (56 and 62 lbs, girl and boy).

Can not beat a CHOW Chow 7 Chows since 1976. .One 4 y.o. & one new baby ::: ALL CHOWS HAVE BEAR IN THERE!!!
That is the truth
I feel the same about my Samon and we live in the forest and he's only 6 months old.❤
My chow retriever Little Bear was strictly a one person no animal dog. She adored me and was quick to listen to me, like how she house trained in one evening, although if I went outside she would grab my ankle and try to drag me back into the house. Bear was my soul sister and lived 16 years. I miss her.
I am surprised he didn't mention this on the video, had the same experience with our chow (Samson).
Eeeeeek on that haircut. Lol
POOOOOODLE CUT !!!!! ..????
I knew a chowchow in Istanbul. He spend his whole day with his owner at an outdoor sports equipment shop in front of a narrow busy (people&cars) street. He was a calm great dog.
kardeş was he staying without leash in the street
AMEN !!!! Got it !!! 😊😊😊
Yes, totally agree on the grooming & parentage as husky x Chow
He doesn't appear to be purebred. His tongue isn't that typical dark purple color either. I've never heard of a Chow with blue eyes.
He has a tail set more like a husky / Collie
Also he moves more like a husky. A typical Chow has a very distinctive gate unlike most dogs.
ahh....dat make sense i was feeling something nt reli chow abt mr chow !
People could emptyes owr home if home alone, but if only one on house to defend, he was literally a killing machine, once i was home only with him i was 11yrs, some one get in the patio and i was sleeping , well the "visitor" was startled and ran fornhis life and close the door as fast as he could and my dog crashed on the door trying to take it down and a screeam of terror was heard😂😂😂 was epic and scary
I truelly enjoy this Mr Chow's video. Thanks
He was born on my bday and we were the same age. So unique!
Probably the best video I've seen on Chow Chows. Thanks!
I owned a blue chow for about 7 years. She was just a delight to have! Would love to own another one.
One of my 7 was blue !! Awesome !!
I had chow passed he was 13 yrs he was great everything you said true he loved kids I can't find one no more
You need a miracle. !!! GOD BLESS !!! Simple !!!
I just got breed results back on my mut, who turned out to be 1/3 chow chow. Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing some insight.
I couldn’t agree more! This will ruin their coats forever
Can't believe you cut his hair , it's an absolute no no , the double coat protects him ,the only reason i you ever cut the coats is for medical reasons in the advice of your vet,
Protects him from what ?
They’re certainly *my favorite over-all breed. And they’re literally BORN housebroken. I’ve had 4 Chows, never had to housebreak a single one of them.
Labs are the same.
Excellent information for any future owners . Knowledge is everything before anyone takes Mr & Mrs home. 💙🇺🇲💙
The love Chow Chow. I’ve had 4 Shar Pei and the temperament and the aloofness and stubbornness can be challenging but it if you work with the dog you will have a great dog. xoxo
I’m getting a husky later this week, would love any information or tips on handling. I plan to get your puppy essential training guide also.
I wish you luck with the shedding
Needed /// needs more discipline.
Defending the castle but I agree. I have a neighbor with a GSD and it is the same situation.
No bad dogs, only bad owners
I think my chow chow is a golden retriever is disguise. If there's one dog that loves attention from people and is super friendly it's my chow. I thought he'd be a bit standoffish but he's perfect. Still independent but very attached to me.
WELL SAID !!! SOME ???? """SOME WOULD SAY DIRTY RAT """ BUT I CALL A *DEMONIC RAT IN OUR WORLD WIDE POLITICAL SITUATION !!! Don't mislead people.
Nothing like a retriever!!
Brother. Please stop embarrassing that chow chow puppy with that haircut!😭
Its not his dog wow let it go!

My chow is called mr chow 😂he’s my first dog and I am young he’s perfect
I love that name! I miss my chow. He passed 8 years ago.
For me my mutt, chow, and half chow half shiba ,,are the best dogs i ever had
Mr. chow! I LOVE IT!!!!!😍
Can you pleaseeee do the same video on Huskys?
I grew up with a Chow Chow back in late 70's - 80's. We inherited a young adult male that had no formal training or socialization.
Despite his lack of training in obedience he was naturally well behaved. He never countered surfed / raided the trash, barked for no reason, never jumped up or chewed on anything. He was a great easy going dog to live with in that respect
I tried to train him obedience as best as I could for inexperienced 6-7yr old.
He learned fairly quick simple commands; sit, down, recall & a few tricks such as; roll over & paw. But every was really on his terms when it came to recall, stay & loose leash walking. If you had something he really wanted at the time he would do it but if something else was more exciting he became deaf. LOL
Chows are extremely loyal dogs often bonding to one person deeply for life. Ours was no exception & he never forgot his first owner. If he had the chance he would escape & run to find his old owner. This happened 3 times over the 14 years we owned him. It didn't matter if the owner moved to 3 towns away he found him. It was really amazing his devotion
I am a complete animal lover.
He didn't bother barking at normal every day non threats such as; mail man or neighbors walking by
Chows can become very possessive of food & toys. This should be worked with while still young. Also they are very territorial & anywhere they are currently stand is considered their territory.
I learned so much about dog's from him. He really was a great dog & I still admire his devotion
I love your content and i will forever be a sub your methods are fool proof and I'm tune in every time you're live
Thank you so much, we're glad you enjoy our content!
Mÿ chow- German Shepard is great. Knows German commands.isten very well. Goodnwith other dogs and kids
If you can do a Spitz breed dog i would enjoy that. The meanest and most dominate dog i have ever EVER seen was my spitz Milly i grew up around.
So cute
Lol all the Chinese reference jokes. 😂🤣
I'm a chow chow, and I approve of this video.
Please make another video like this about the Akita. This was so informative!
Thank you considered the chow am able perfect all of above but as a OTR trucker the coat is a major huddle
I got mine when he was 6 weeks old. The best dog ever very strong will, but as you are Willing to be the boss. They'll be okay .No they will better then ok😊😊😊
My chow is the sweetest at the dog park.Loves everyone 😅🎉😂❤❤❤ There are no bad dogs just bad onwers 😊😮
They are the best dogs ❤️
Haha so are border collies ❤️
NAAAAAAHH NO BEARS IN COLLIES. &&& THEIR TEMPERAMENT IS ON A ** DIFFERENT CHANEL OR DIFFERENT WORLD !!! ::::::: MILES APART !!! CHEERS !!!
With all the + or - he still is a good dog breed just work hard to get results not for beginners if you consider your self a pro go for it love them ❤
Great video!
@AmericanStandardK9 this is the Chow Chow from the Circle of Life short you did i am sure
😀
Chow Chow is the only breed for me❣️
Any advice about literally having a golden retriever chow?
Check out our online courses at DIYK9.com!

My red heeler, trained my little chow puppy
Please get then to stop shaving their Chow.
please do shar pei to : ). I have a blue toned bone faced shar pei.
Lol right haha. "Yeah I've never owned ---- breed if dog but somehow I have loads of experience with that particular breed hahaha that doesn't make any sense ❤️
He has the experience because he trains them, you don’t have to have something to understand what it is
My chow really just sits takes a nap and eats and the occasional bark he’s really lazy
CoowChoW s are unique. They are protective and stuborn. M chow chow wasnt affraid of nothig when it came to family. But it growled against my cousins when it had swine bone in mouth. And it bit my cousins and after that me. But theni nearly choked it and she stoped, After that she loved my cousins. and me
😂 wow
Why is his face shaved?
a shaved chowchow does look like a non wrinkly sharpei
I want an Akita, not yet, I’m not ready for another dog
I thought you shouldn’t shave double coat
Streetfighter music?
Will a well trained and socialized chow still remain protective of his owner and his yard/house?
I have a chow chow very very cute
Six months old but always like to bite

I want one I live in California but don’t know where
My chow is lazy
King of Sichuan 😂😂😂
We only have Chows Chows the last 35 years amazing breed but not for scrubs / new dog owners only because they don't know the breed and do the correct homework on them aka training and grooming etc. A chow will lose respect and trust in owners if they don't treat them with respect yelling etc and you must be the leader of the pack and a strong stable leader or you will get fights etc. With chows it all depends on personality and how they are raised so I disagree on chows not doing well with kids because some of our chows are amazing with kids others not so much over the years. In truth kids need training to if they are going to be around chows or any dogs as they do things to dogs to provoke a nip or bite.We always have two chows a male and a female but at a time but this time we have three as we were on a list for the youngest and she was born before my senior crossed over and that's ok.
why does this chow chow looks weird af
His face is shaved
His hair looks ridiculous
Panda dog?
Not a Chow Chow. Some mixed breed maybe?
When a chow chow is shaved it looks like a pit bull, he's no longer a teddy bear. But the one in the video is quite small for a chow
@@zaziou711 The one in the video got blue eyes and a red tongue. Long legs for a Chow.
Not a purebred but definitely a chow
@@zaziou711 He’s only 10 months old so still growing
I would agree. His tail is not a proper Chow tail. A chow tail remains curled at all times. He is more Chow than anything else, but not a pure breed. Unfortunately, this awful cut also makes him look very non Chow. Taking a closer look at him I would venture to guess that there is husky in him. Explains the eye colour (breed standard is always brown/black) and the floofy tail
Day one. I’m talkin 8 weeks old. 🤔
Im getting pit bull vibes from the dog with his face shaven…

Just not a fan of the breed.
Can you jog with a chow chow
Your chow chow is not a pure breed
