Recommendation: Use extra tires to build a 3-sided wall around the generator to dampen the noise. Nice range!
Great advice, thank you!
@@PolenarTactical Let me know the specs so I could replace it for you with a less noisy one ;)
"Advanced...water...cleaner...suction...vacum...... thingy...." love the video! Great range for great practice, keep it up!
Appreciate you guys taking my suggestion, awesome setup :)
In The Revolution; the defenders of Fort Moultrie (Charleston Harbour, SC.) Used beach sand and palmetto logs* to defeat The Royal Navy.
*Shifting sand bars in the waters around that island were helpful, too.😁
As always, what a great video. Really informative, funny, and well made. You guys are the best!!!! Im about to set up my own small range and thisbhas given me some great ideas. Once again, thanks.
Considering it having been constructed so cost-effectively, that’s quite an effective looking indoor range. I of course loved the alternative units of measurement used, too! 🤣
Super cost efficient because we do not own the property or the building and we can get evicted on a short notice

Range I've been to uses sand filled tires as a backstop too and it works for them too.
Impressive what some dinosaur juice and sand can stop
Ranges all over South Africa are built using old tyres filled with sand and they're extremely safe. Some of them are decades old and still trucking on.
Oh... 750 weasels... so this is about 1280 ducklings. Got it! 👍
that`s a pretty decent range. Over here in Brazil my local range uses empty tires and I had a couple o bullets bounce back and hit me but it was nothing serious, it felt like someone threw a pebble at me. Something some ranges do here is put wooden logs in front of the hard backstop to avoid that and they work wonders
Look forward to see that
Cool video. I'm glad to see you guys are being safe while having fun. With love from USA❤️🇺🇸
From experience of working in a shooting range with a tyre backstop, yes, the tires can rarely "spit" the bullets back towards us, it heavily depends on how used up the tires are, however the energy and speed they carry is insanely negligible. Its pretty much perfectly safe in our case, as the shooting line is usually farther than the distance the projectiles can come back. Speed of the bullets that come back is like if I would have softly tossed them. (Mind you this is with OUR type of backstop setup.)
Edit: Might have not finished the video when typing the comment out, Ziga did explain basicly what i did now too :,)
Yup, we have the same experience.
At the beginning when we first saw a fired bullet on the floor next to the shooters, we got worried. It took some time but we figured that the bullets coming back have no energy and after seeing one sliding back towards us, we picked it up and it was cold and had some oxidation on it.
So we figured that most of the bullets that are "coming back" are actually previously fired bullets that got caught in the tire and the next bullet dislodged it
Love you guys and your work.
No such thing as an overbuilt backstop. 😉 Especially when there's no telling what else you will drag in there...
Double up the earpro (plugs and muffs); the echos sound savage.
Given all the rounds fired, have you ever considered reclaiming the bullets in the backstop for recycling the metals?
Yes, but we're too lazy 😅
@@PolenarTactical 👍👍
I would love to build a nice indoor shooting range like this and start a shooting club. Would probably be the only way to afford the maintenance on the thing 😂
Looks awesome, here in Austria I train in a deep cellar which looks like a dungeon. So I appreciate the freshness of your range.
I don't know, training in a dungeon seems pretty dope to me 😂
Ohh where are you training?
I mostly train at Caliber S in Graz :)
@@lukaskloiber4248 A few different places, but springer in Vienna is the Dungeon (although it is a shooting cinema which is pretty cool).
Cant deny im bit jealous from that nice indoor range.
Only range we have for free use is public outdoor range with shitty claythrower.
There are smaller shooting pockets for tactical usage but in wintertime
we mostly just use that 100m long range and truck pallets to
hang targets. Cant leave nothing there because everything will be shot
or stolen if it is not bolted on ground.
Otherwise okay range but wintertimes are bit annoying because it is bit nature side
and if it have been snowing you should have 4x4 with good ground clearance if
want to be sure to get in destination and home whitout getting stuck.
But it is free to use with only limitations of some clocktimes how early and how
late you can shoot because neighbors who live near.
Love your stuff Polenar Tactical
Take a few stacks of those empty tires and make a small "soundproof" room for your generator. Looks like you have enough room, just need a makeshift door.
I love y'all so much. Every video is so entertaining no matter the subject. Thank you for sharing with us.
That's nice to hear 😊
@3:17 Trickle down triggernometry works
Thank you for a new unit of measure. I run a 700 weasel zero on my carbine. 😂
Bowling pins and bird shot. Ouch. We made that mistake setting up a match once. Several people there got stung by ricochet at some point, mostly spectators behind and to the side of the shooter in the staging area. There was a fly crawling around on my gear with only one wing. He was the only casualty.
who needs plate carriers when i can become the michelin mascot
I can't express how much I love this channel.
I hope to meet y'all in person someday y'all crack me up and I'll never spell Lapua correct again I now own a 338lappuah LMAO mamma says it's close enough
Improve your english a bit. In the very end you said "good guys we like to hang out and shoot". It actually should be "good guys we like to hang outside and shoot" B-)
🤣
Jep the thing with the ricochet is most likely true, Matt form Demolitionranch has a video where he deviates the path of a 45 ACP with PVC Pipe, it's crazy.
Imagine bullets bouncing back at you from tyres
Is that a suicide cable back feed at 8:45? Looks like you made a male-male extension cord to back feed the building? I'm an electrician and can tell from the covers on the outlet
Yes, good spot
That inlet/outlat goes to fuze box and power everything
We did it this way because there is no electricity to or around the building
The "Ya Mama" comment was perfect and perfectly rimed!
I dont believe 7.62x54r dont penetrates one row of sandtires! Prove it !make a video! 😁
That's a good video idea!
I bet even .50 cal will not penetrate it
@@PolenarTactical iam dying to see this! 🤣
Built a similar wall for a backstop out side, but with semi truck tires. In testing a 308 wont even go though both treads without sand. Once sand was added, a 308 AP gets about 8-10 inches into the sand. Considering they are 19-22 inch rim size tires and almost 40 inches in diameter, i would stand behind it even from a 50 BMG AP
The worst case is a round slipping between the sidewalls, after the first test with dry sand we found a pair of 308 pinched between the rear 2 sidewalls. Figured the bottom tire didn't have sand in the sidewall area because the bead is lower than the sidewall. The sand has to go uphill to fill it completely. This allowed the rounds to flex the sidewall and slide though.
Solution was use water to pack the sand into the tires better, running a hose in the tires while filling basically cemented them together with zero air gaps. The were rock solid, and we were not able to replicate the issue.
Also had a ton of comments about the tires bouncing rounds back because its rubber. Tested it with 22lr and 22cb without anything bouncing back. Anything bigger will 100% go into the tire.
You should surround the generator with a u shaped wall of tires with opening facing away from the building and see if that helps with the noise inside the building
Very nice video. ... would love to come and say Hello to you Over there ..
We used to stack up tires in the old gravel pit by my house and burn that tire piles into a dirt pile with a flat face and they would last for decades.
Hundreds of thousands of rounds.
The entire county shoots there and they still make the backstop out of tires in a dirt pile
Those tires have more tread on them than the ones I'm currently using 😆
Why not just make a semi sound proof box for the agregat? Maybe it can reduce the noise to some extent
This is my ultimate dream, having my own private shooting range.
If you guys haven't already, would suggest first aid kit just in case any accident happens like for example a -kentucky- bad ammo incident since the range is secluded
We have a proper first aid kit for gunshot wounds at the range but also in this shooting club an IFAK is mandatory for every shooter
Appreciate that you did the measurement conversion from metric to American (elephants and weasels).
And now you're making me miss Lasko beer all over again 🍺
Velocity of a bullet is very different. But as a kid I once shot a air rifle on a inflated tire and that pellet nearly hit me. I heard the crack besides my ear, scared the shit outa me then 😂
🌟 My mother, loves your shooting range🍻
Here's an idea how to get rid of your generator noise: Last couple months the solar industry is imploding thanks to rising interest rates, so prices have come down significantly. You can put up a couple PV panels, an 48V battery system and hook it up to a Victron ESS to run your own micro-grid for not much more than a decend generator cost. Silent, hassle-free, expandable to whatever size you need and no pain in the ass fuel storage, generator maintenance, startup problems...
And if you want to get real fancy, you could go for the Victron Quatro instead of Multiplus and have your regular generators automatically tied in to charge the batteries when your stored energy is running low and there isn't enough sun to keep up with your energy needs (rainy days, winter, you get the idea).
SAVE EUROPEAN HUMAN RIGHTS!!!!
A guy i knew had to have a 38 special slug removed from his leg...it was a ricochet off of a tire...sorry, i can't tell the particular details, this was 30 years ago...it might have been how you described it...what i remember though, is that he said it bounced off of the tire...it may have been like a farm tractor tire though...i don't know...
Anyway, as always, this was a super cool video, and i really appreciate you going through this...very useful/helpful info. Thank you.
I heard a similar story of shooting into a metal drum and a piece of the bullet caught the rim and came back
Thank you for including proper measurements for us Americans
Honestly, that's a really sweet setup for an indoor range.
Watch your lead levels. Good ventilation systems are a must for indoor shooting ranges.
I am sure the council would have visited and checked regulations as the range probably has to be licenced. Our rangers in Austria and Czechia are often in deep cellars and it's really important there.
He talks about that at 9:08.
@@davedavids57no council, no regulations, no permit required
@@PolenarTactical Isn't it dangerous to stand next to the tires for extended periods without wearing a respirator? US indoor ranges require employees to wear respirators when cleaning downrange.
Just a recycled comment for the algorithm.
Are you going to do anything for reducing the sound levels and echoes? Like maybe hanging cloths from the wall or attaching those foam egg carton looking things to the walls? Concrete walls will make the sound of a gun shot quite uncomfortable in a short time even with hearing protection being worn
No
It would be too expensive to install a functioning sound insulation. For anything over .22lr, 9mm or suppressed rifle you need to double up on ear pro
Thanks. I was wondering if I should fill the tires or tie the tires and fill behind them. If you stack up some of your tires around your generator and fill them with sand so that all the sound it going up, it will be a lot more pleasant for you.
I can't get over how you managed to make a full length rifle print less than your phone!
I'm done with the whole metric vs imperial debate. I'm using polenars from now on.
I love this channel so much. "Booou--let"
I would say that I would not shoot there without respirator. Also, it seems possible to vent out air without cleaning it first by filters
1:30 Ah i really not expect that:)
It looks like good shooting range.

I havent seen the orange one for some time now...
how much for the original Polenar Tactical Aldi Bag?
I’ve been working on one of these for years Lol you should REALLY set a camera up close to the range/target so people can see how minimal the damage is. Hopefully that made sense? Haha 😂
Nice. I am sometimes going to very similar 50m range. It have pillars as support so you can move there and play with cover.
hey Ziga, maybe i missed it. You telling me in ur country u can just build it without any restrictions? Europe isnt that bad then
You can make a range in the US too, so long as you are outside of city limits and it's not commercial. And it has to be safe, obviously
You'd be shocked where you can put a safe firing range.

If it doesn’t have enough power to exit the back side u would think it wouldn’t have enough power to come back through the entry side and come back at you!! Idk how true that is about a bullet and tire but anything is possible but idk if that’s one.
I heard this from multiple different sources - even people on the internet warned me about it. Sounds strange but we took it seriously, just in case
Top Class tactical shooting team Polar Tactical! Great tips, we have to think about all this in our own shooting range.
Wow, you guys have Steven Segal at home?
Build me a range! I’m too tired.
Rock on, guys

In my opinion COBI is a far more better partner for a coop... 🤗
Do you guys have any range outisde or why would you choose indoor ? Just curious...
The main reason is noise - if people living nearby start to complain about the noise and get official involved, we could have a lot of issues or they could even close the shooting range down. By having it indoors the sound dampened and everyone is happy.
We would definitely prefer an outdoor shooting range but the biggest issue is finding a proper place that would be safe and far enough from people
bout to start collecting tires for the basement.
The range is very nice. I only wish I had anything close to it.
I will never shoot a tire again after hearing about the steel cable thing
It has never happened to us but so many different people warned me about it, that i take them seriously.
One thing that has happened in Slovenia is that someone shot a pistol at a steel barrel and a part of the bullet rode the rim and came back to hit him
These things are probably quite rare but can happen.
It's sometimes hard to believe but after seeing the Demolition Ranch video about curving bullets, even a PVC pipe can do it!
Tarkov hideout
I'd be more afraid of a sand particle flying and somehow landing inside my eye protection, and no, don't ask me how I know it; if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
wow it is amazing place on earth after hickok 45's place and a nice way to carry an edc rifle
First time I shot at tires I got hit with a 40 cal that came back at me. Hit me in the hip right on my belt and felt like someone hit me with a bat.
Were you shooting at empty or full tires?
I have heard this from multiple sources but never had info from first hand. We took the warnings seriously, that's why we only shoot at filled tires.
We shot milions of rounds without any problems
@@PolenarTactical They were filled but maybe not super tight... and I think it had more to do with the bullet going in the crevice of two tires and slowing enough to bounce off the tire that was backing them. It only happened once to me and the guy that set them up says it can happen but usually doesn't
With no sound insulation on the walls, the reverb must be incredible. The ventilation system leaves a tremendous amount to be desired. One fan alone would not generate the necessary CFM for proper air flow.
To be precise, 30 meters is only 120 fully mature male weasels.
True

i bet def people are so confused right now 😂
Yooooo. I’ve never heard it’s a possibility a round can travel around an empty tire. 😬 yikes! I’m gonna have to remedy that one on my range.
I never seen it happen but got a lot of warnings from local shooters and also people from all around the world commenting on our videos. We still use empty tires in some areas to eliminated ricochets if accidentally hit but we try to avoid shooting at empty tires just in case.
Better to be safe than sorry 😅
@@PolenarTactical Yes absolutely! I haven’t had a round come back on me….that I know of any way. 😳 Lol
I’m going to just go ahead and fill them in though just to make damn sure.

Boa noite Belo vídeo
What about ventilation? Lead is toxic.
You can definitely skip pistol rounds off of tires, but they get gripped by the rubber and pick up an additional spin that curves the ricochet back towards the original direction the bullet was fired toward, +/-. It's not the safest thing in the world, but it's doubtful they'd head back towards the firing line.
I shot the side of a tire laying flat on the ground from a 45° angle, and it kicked up sand as if the bullet went through the tire in a strait line. Upon close examination though, there were no bullet holes left in the sidewall or tread. I was then able to dig up intact bullets in the sand where they impacted the ground, 6-12 inches down. Pretty interesting, and good to know if you ever had to try and stop a car; use a rifle unless you're running a FN Five-seveN.
If you dedicated an area to using lead-free frangibles, you can even use metal targets!
True
But actually the biggest lead contamination comes from primers - so lead-free primers would make a big difference but are expensive
Some of our member already reload with lead-free primers already and their lead levels in blood went way down
But leadfree ammo is usually so much more expensive to not make it exacly
valid option for common shooter who is already struggling with ammo prices.
So i would prefer normal ammo and improvised targets instead of
expensive special ammo and steel targets.
