And it was at this move that Rapport lifted his Queen from a1, moved his hand slowly in a circular pattern and removed Magnus' rook from the board. Magnus stood in awe for a minute. Then he replied: Agadmator has taught you well, young apprentice.

That Rapport quote is funny because what he’s saying makes sense in the context of chess where he “gambles” by not playing for a draw, but in general saying you “gambled a little bit” is the opposite of having destiny in your own hands.

I don't often comment on these videos, I rarely feel qualified. But watching the rise of Rapport in the FIDE tournament has really been something. He has had a decent year coming into this tournament, and now he's defeated Magnus who can't help but be identified as the "man to beat."
There's still a long way to go to getting the crown that Magnus owns, but 1) Magnus' dominance has been in question this year, AND 2) let's face it, it's great to see a real challenger come up. Maybe Rapport pushes Magnus to new heights, maybe Magnus pushes Rapport into his own. I suspect both will happen, and it's awesome for chess that it's happening.
Every great champion needs a foil. McEnroe had Borg, Ali had Frasier, Fisher had Spassky among others. Maybe now we see Carlson v Rapport making both players rise to hitherto unrealized heights of creativity and virtuosity.

Not to say that competitors being unfamiliar with his style is the only reason but that it adds to him being good.
