Although I was born in the north east I became a Chelsea fan after we lost to Spurs in the 1967 F.A.Cup final. Saw the great man score 2 goals for the England U21 side against Scotland at the old Roker Park stadium before the match was abandoned in the second half due to fog. He scored his second with a close range header right in front of me, not 10 yards away. Family moved to London when i was 14, that’s when i started going to Stamford Bridge...and travelling the country to watch every game. Ossie had it all. R.I.P.
That diving header against the hated Leeds in the 1970 FA cup final remains one of my most enduring childhood memories. Forget now how many times we tried to emulate that skill and failed. Great player. Always my favourite.
Lovely tribute John. Best player of his generation and still a legend today. I'm glad to be the proud owner of a car registration with his name on it - P.O59OOD
He was my hero in football. Chelsea was the greatest especially with Peter Osgood & the rest of the team in those gorgeous days. God bless you Peter Osgood, rest in peace
For me the best centre forward I ever saw! He had everything. How he only got 4 caps I've no idea. Dead for 14 years but remembered for ever! The one and only King of Stamford Bridge.
Not only a great player but a great man too. I was lucky enough to meet him several times, both at The Bridge and at a certain pub in Bray and he not only took time to talk to me, but always gave me his full attention.........a part of football died for me the day Ossie sadly past away...God bless him.
My grandad said he played against him when osgood was only 16/17 and my grandad was like 23 at the time. He said he scored 3 goals in the space of 5 minute haha
Not only was Ossie a great player , he was a really nice person . I had the pleasure of having a drink and a chat with him in my local club. I was deeply shocked to hear of his passing.I will always remember him with affection and respect. Thanks for the good times you gave us Peter. Rest in Peace.
The first time I saw him play was in 1966 v AC Milan in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup tie at the Bridge, as a rookie 19-year-old he scored a great goal that night, an absolute legend. I also remember seeing him score 4 goals v C.Palace at Selhurst Park
i still cant believe he took his last breaths opposite where i was living and never knew until the news reports, God bless you Peter, the true King of Stamford Bridge.
Loved the man - favourite player of all time - my dad took me to see Chelsea in the late 60's, early 70's when Peter was at his very best. Always remember his volley against Arsenal,- sad loss to football - RIP Ozzy - you were truly the King!! - thank you so much for the memories....

It was against Man Utd on April 28 1973 at Stamford bridge in the then, English 1st division. It was also Bobby Charlton's last game for Man Utd and I was privileged to be there. infact I was standing in the shed end and had exactly the same view as the cameraman when Ossie scored.
