Cillian Murphy originally tried out for Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins. Obviously, Christian Bale got the role instead, but that's seemingly where he met Christopher Nolan, and he would still end up cast as Scarecrow for the trilogy. Now, nearly 20 years later, Cillian Murphy is the leading character in a 3-hour biographical film about a man who probably went to his grave believing himself to be responsible for an inevitable nuclear firestorm that would consume the human race. And he absolutely KILLED it.
Back during the times of the Cold War, an incident ocurred. One of the devices the URSS had to spot an enemy nuclear attack fucked up, and set the alarm. The guy in charge of that region of the URSS was supossed to launch the counter attack, but had 2nd thoughts or just didnt wanted to believe what was happening. Shortly after, the malfunction was discovered. I always remember this unknown piece of history. It gives me chills. That russian literally saved the world we now know.
The end scene is amazing. Especially the fear of nukes being used is higher than ever since the cold war again because of the ukraine war now. Because all it takes is one person to break the morality barrier we have had of using nukes. If that breaks, everyone else will start shooting at eachother. I remember when I say in cinema watching this, full seated. When the movie ended with just blackscreen and showing Oppenhiemr fear of starting a chain reaction. In this case chain reaction of shooting nukes at each other. Everyone and I mean everyone in the theater sat still and all quite for like 30 secs. Everyone sat in like deep thought and fear of the world we live in today.
The cheering scene is so haunting. All those people, everyone in America and the whole world, oblivious to the destructive power mankind just created. Oppenheimer in that moment, realizing what he has given to humans, death personified.

Yes, replying to what you said at the end about size of nukes today - basically those original ones were 15-20kt if I recall correctly, most modern Russian missilies carry like 8-12 individual 800kt warheads if I remember correctly, so one missile can contain hundreds and hundreds of times more, and even in the case of the submarines each submarine can carry like 10-24 of these missiles each, once I did the calculation on the most common US submarine, and I think it came out to something like 100000kt per submarine, or maybe more.

Kinda of beautiful that people born in peace can recognize it. Its all we know, the little wars we have seem to be many but its just because its the amount we grew accustomed with. Sorry for my bad english.
His invention is the main reason we don't have any major conflict between the super powers in the world. Otherwise we probably would already had a WW in 80's.
Regarding "why did they drop the bomb" at the end, a big reason why the Americans used the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was to show military dominance towards the Russians. The USA pivoted directly from waging war against the fascists (which the USSR won btw) to a Cold War against the communists.
The Hiroshima bomb was 15 kilotons. The largest bomb ever tested by the U.S. was about 15 megatons... 15 thousand vs 15 million tons. And the U.S. has bigger bombs than that. The USSR tested one that was about 60 megatons.
Both the US and the Soviet Union tested extremely high yield hydrogen bombs in the 1950's, the Americans with Castle Bravo (15 megaton yield, or 1000x more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima) and the Soviets with Tsar Bomba (57 megatons, the most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated). Nowadays pretty much all nuclear weapons are thermonuclear (hydrogen bombs), but with delivery systems being far more accurate than they were in the 50's there is no need for such high yield weapons, most warheads are somewhere between 300 kilotons and 2 megatons. Modern missiles however are capable of reaching any target on the planet in less than an hour and typically carry multiple warheads which are programmed to hit different targets simultaneously, so the destructive potential of these weapons remains just as terrible today as back then, especially since the US has 5500 nuclear weapons in its arsenal and Russia about 6000, more than enough to destroy the entire planet. We have to hope that the people who have the ability to order the use of these weapons will continue to refrain from doing so
We used the atomic bomb in Japan because, if we had invaded Japan conventionally like we did in Europe, more of our soldiers would have died than Japanese died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and we didn't start the war. Not only would more Americans have died if we hadn't used the bomb, more Japanese would have died. Instead of dying in a matter of weeks from the nuclear bombs, they would have died over the next 3 years by bullets, explosions, and starvation due to getting cut off from supplies. And I'll repeat: Japan started the fn war. They attacked us. Japan also attacked China, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Burma, and countless South Pacific Islands.

Honestly, even this movie shows indicators that Oppenheimer could be connect with soviets. His acquaintances are either communists or ex communists. Everybody was afraid of communism so very detail would matter. It does not mean he was agent of Soviet Union. But such background and connections were dangerous during Cold War so it would be logical to deny his appeal. I think Nolan did not try to defend all these scientists but show how it affected the politics in the future. Great movie which does not manipulate our opinion. Just tells story from different perspectives
Oppenheimer did not give the Soviets anything. He was a patriot. He simply wasn't careful about who he associated with. And the USA has had such a huge phobia about Communism that that was enough.
During the time that the bomb was just theory, communism wasn't seen as bad; people in the US were more open to the idea of it. All that changed during the cold war, and communism became Soviet sympathy
We should separate humanity into those who have power and the people . The people do not start wars but the small group of corrupt elitists who rule us DO !
Humans need to continue spreading out into the solar system. It is the only thing they can mitigate and possibly stop the issues that come with one society being more technologically advanced than another. We can't stop scientific progress and we can't change human nature.
I don't understand your reaction. The bomb saved MILLIONS of lives, including millions of Japanese lives. In addition, it prevented major powers from fighting each other directly which saved millions more. Your reaction is naive.

I had the opportunity to see Oppenheimer and I enjoyed it very much, but yes, for example, there were scenes that I did not like at all and the same thing happens all over the world. The explicit sexual scenes, sex and nudity of the actresses Pubg and Blunt were unnecessary and even They are uncomfortable. The truth is that Nolan didn't even treat female actresses well and respect for women is very important. I even felt very sorry for Pugh and Blunt actresses because of those unnecessary explicit sexual scenes. What do you think? I hope to know your opinion and response because in my opinion the explicit sexual scenes, for example in the interrogation, did bother me and were unnecessary Also be careful with explicit sexual scenes, nudity and sex because RUclips can close your channel for inspired content. Those explicit naked sexual scenes disgust me because they are unnecessary and it is the same as a porn scene 😢

This movie was very strong, thank you for your genuine reaction 🎦
Such an important and impactful movie....Nolan at his finest!
We should separate humanity into those who have power and the people . The people do not start wars but the small group of corrupt elitists who rule us DO !
Cillian should recieve an Oscar
Can you watch *the Maze Runner* movies next? I highly recommend this trilogy! ☺️
NOW, you must react to "Wag The Dog" from 1997 to get more clarity on the GOVERNMENT.
don't worry only 7 countries have nuclear weapons

I had the opportunity to see Oppenheimer and I enjoyed it very much, but yes, for example, there were scenes that I did not like at all and the same thing happens all over the world. The explicit sexual scenes, sex and nudity of the actresses Pubg and Blunt were unnecessary and even They are uncomfortable. The truth is that Nolan didn't even treat female actresses well and respect for women is very important. I even felt very sorry for Pugh and Blunt actresses because of those unnecessary explicit sexual scenes. What do you think? I hope to know your opinion and response because in my opinion the explicit sexual scenes, for example in the interrogation, did bother me and were unnecessary
Also be careful with explicit sexual scenes, nudity and sex because RUclips can close your channel for inspired content. Those explicit naked sexual scenes disgust me because they are unnecessary and it is the same as a porn scene 😢
This movie sucks bore fest
