sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the account password. I love any tips you can give me
@Brooks Aries I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
One issue with green roofs is the origin of the soil. Going big on green roofs will take from soil elsewhere in ecosystems. For example, potting soil is made by extracting peat from the peatbogs. How can we design greenroofs so that they have less intensive growth media?
tauofwar A lot of soil is generated through composting methods. Not all soils sold commercially contain peat. A green roof also requires significantly less growing media than typical planting beds. The net impact is totally positive.
Most green roofs I've seen actually don't have soil, but have sleet or some kind of gravel. Which is either crushed up mountains or riverbed...so in this case we're destroying nature to recreate it on top of a roof.
depending on where new residential areas are created and the soil they are constructed on, removed soil (dirt) has to be transported away from the site if basements are created. this is a potential source of growing media from discarded soil
lab made composite soil is commonly used. Generally made out of recycled material and organic materials. However, whether it's taken from the earth or not you're still creating more surface area of natural earth technically. so you're argument is kind of a moot point. 🤷
I came across your Ted Talk. Congratulations! I am creating a non profit with the mission of having the 50 largest cities in the US adopt green infrastructure. It's called Community Green. We are in the process of creating a strategic plan. I would love to speak with you some time.
Wow a really inspired talk and I share your vision. I had the thought yesterday about converting our rooftop into a grass covered roof because my husband brought a tortoise from the countryside as a pet for my son. We have also had chickens upstairs on our tiled roof so if we could convert it into a green roof it would be animal and pet friendly. I would LOVE to be able to go to the hardware store and install a green roof myself. I will share this far and wide and hopefully others will get enthused to do the same. This talk was in 2014 so by now there must have been advancements with regards to MGR for residential homes. How expensive is it to purchase a 2 square foot MGR? I am living in Morocco so we probably do not have anything like this available but I will try to contact the media so they can cotton on to this idea as we did host the Climate Change Summit in Marrakech last year so we are becoming more progressive with regards to the environment and implementing changes to help improve the environment and fight global warming.
great presentation

any way i can read that paper?
this guy rocks!
Green roofing will be the future. Did you see the new research about green roofs from the Science Times?
Does someone have the papers/facts he is referring to? It would be super helpfull!
nO
Add some permeable pavement?
👍🏻
Green roof
why is this theory peddled out every 3-4 years as if it is something brand new and amazing. Good talk but why not try something new?
