In her 8 heart cutscene, she admits that she has feelings for you. She is also capable of eating diamonds. If you end up getting married to another girl, no amount of security would be able to stop her as she eats her way to you, only to kill you in your sleep.
I've never been a huge fan of abigail myself and I'm not entirely sure why, maybe it's because she beat me in my first egg hunt and I'm holding a grudge lol
i've never gotten along with her just because i refuse to take our friendship anywhere after her telling me she wishes i didnt move in because she liked wandering the farm, plus her randomly getting mad at me and telling me to buzz off when i never did anything
@@elbereth2738 The way she gets in a mood and snaps at you is one of my bigger problems with her. Sure, you can have an off day and not want to talk, but yelling at a complete stranger is really immature.
I'll be honest, Abigail was my first marriage, but that definitely wasn't the plan. I just ended up seeing her at Pierre's a lot which led to the heart events and she kinda grew on me. Of all the friendships I made my first playthrough, Abigail's felt the most organic because you stop by her house and get close to her family in the course of just being a farmer. You don't need to chase her down in obscure locations like Leah or Haley, she's always around town and happy to talk. Penny is too shy at first to feel nearly as accessible, and she's generally busy teaching the children. So while Abigail wasn't the choice I expected to make, it did feel the most natural and I've found it to be very rewarding.
That's me with Shane on my first playthrough with SV, for some reasons I always got out to the town at the same time he walks there. He grew on me despite his bad habits, somehow I got a lot of his hearts without giving him gifts. Though I don't really see him as a marriage partner, he's like a friend I would often hang out with and try to help his bad habits. I did date him but I broke it off when I learned from other people that he won't really get rid of his habits even after marrying the farmer. So I decided to marry that kid who is living with his grandparents. I forgot his name lol. I just really love the old couple so I decided to marry their grandson 😂 I still love Shane and his events though.
I don't dislike Abigail but for me she is one of the lower tier marriage candidates. I prefer Penny, Emily and Harvey. I think it has more to do with how Abigail isn't really ready for marriage. I could see her making the same mistake as her mom and Jodi did.
@@noodlecat2368 she got married and had a family young before she was ready. Jodi wishes she had waited a few years to be able to have other life experiences first.
It would be so cool if she got her degree at 6 hearts or something and then you could see her struggle with what to do next in life, then find some other passion like game design or animation or something. That would be way more relatable.
I really liked her character design when I first started playing, but quickly lost interest after she disliked a lot of the fruits that I gifted her (I didn't know about the wiki back then...) Wdym "what am I supposed to do with this"??? You eat rocks but don't know how to eat a strawberry???
I feel like Concerned Ape wanted to do more with Abigail than what he allowed. I feel like he wanted Abigail to be the "adventrurer's option" in marriage but realized making her too competent or a possible adventure buddy would make her too powerful of a candidate. The mines offer some of the best stuff in the game in terms of material and monetization. If Abigail was the only marriage candidate that was capable of dungeon diving she would be objectively the best spouse. In my stardew video I commented saying Abigail was a giant poser and felt her 14 heart event was crazy weak and did a lot of disservice to her character, especially since we can find her on Floor 20 of the mines...It's quite difficult to get to floor 20 without killing monsters, yet she did exactly that...She seems too idealized and just kinda rubbed me wrong
From what I've been told, Abigail apparently has the most vanilla dialogue lines to any other marriage candidate (either Maru or Alex have the least amount). You can kind tell that ConcernedApe was playing favourites.
her 14 heart feels incredibly lame to me, for the exact reasons you mentioned. also, assuming it's a "typical" run of stardew (so, not speedrunning marriage or anything), the farmer has to be... immensely strong by that point, right? and they get brought down by a random monster found in, what, floor 30 of the mines? and abigail just happens to be walking by?? I understand why a lot of people find it sweet, but it just seems so out of place. maybe it would be better if she saved someone who doesn't have the experience that the farmer (likely) has, or if she and the farmer dove deep into the mines proper??? idk but it's probably my least favorite 14 heart event
I think the reason I've always disliked Abigail is because she just seems like she's there to be the manic pixie dream girl and doesn't have any substance outside of that and its such a common trope/characterization that I'm just kind of bored with it. And maybe I'm a hypocrite because I always marry my favorite little himbo Elliot and its not like there's a ton going on for him outside of writer, ditzy (and once you marry him) loves you very very much. Can't wait to see your video on him!
Yes, I feel the same about both. Abigail just seems like YOUR PERFECT EGIRL WAIFU, so very try hard and stereotypical but without some actual personality. Almost like a meme, a caricature of the girl everyone wants her to be. When it comes to Elliot, I think that the thing i like about him the most is that he seems like he's the spouse that loves you the most when you marry him
Elliot is the perfect farm hubby IMO. He can pursue his own dream of writing from home, but still often takes the day off to visit town or his old shack. And he helps out on the farm a lot too.
Ngl, I thought Elliot was going to be like Kai (from harvest moon mineral town) that he'd be gone every damn season except summer or spring, so I didn't bother getting his hearts first because I thought that'd be tiresome. I was immediately put off by his princely attitude too. He was the last candidate that I still hadn't gotten any heart events after dating almost everyone and boy did he change my mind when I got his hearts up. I ended up really liking his humility and passion for writing haha. My first candidate was always Sebastian, only because I wanted him to get out of that household and he reminded me of my bf when we were edgy teens. Haley was my second which I came to regret because I found out a lot of people didn't like her during marriage, she has now been replaced with Elliot haha. Sam ended up being my third after seeing his 10 heart event, boy was that something because I clicked the 'stay put' option thinking Jodi might see us but my man's was smooth with it. Abigail's just alright. She's not that bad, but not that good either. I'd pick Penny and Emily over her.
The only reason why people like her is because she's the most basic "goth gf" they can get. Also, Elliott is so sweet, he's not a himbo lmaoo I'm straight, and I'd choose Elliott over her
Most of the marriage candidates feel too young for me, and I'm only 25! I think it's hard to see someone who's constantly complaining about school and parents as old enough to marry. Leah is the one who feels the most like my age.
Same, some of the candidates feel too much like teenagers to me. Some of the heart events even make me feel like i'm hanging out with younger siblings lol
I'm 26 and I think the only bachelors/bachelorettes that feel like my age are Sebastian, Emily, maaaayybe Maru, Leah, and Shane and Elliott seem a tad older, like mid thirties maybe. I think Penny is also young but just had to mature really quickly to keep a roof over her and Pam's head 🥺
Yeah, definitely same. I'm just about to turn 26 and I'm good with Leah, Emily, Harvey and Elliot (and I guess Shane but meh) as they all feel like they could be late 20s/early 30s to me as they all either live alone or have a caretaker role. The others all just seem too young, especially after finding out that Abigail, Sam and Seb are all actually coded as teens in the game... That's part of the reason I love the Ridgeside mod so much - there's a whole bunch of new marriage candidates who feel like adults and are mostly all working and/or living alone. I pretty much only date people from that mod now..
I'm 18 so I don't mind too much, but the only romanceable characters that felt older than 20 to me were leah, elliot, shane, harvey, and emily. Honestly, i think any single character in the game shouldve been available to marry.
When I think of Abigail I just think of guinea pig neglect. Her cage is too small and guinea pigs NEED a friend. When I found out she only had one guinea pig I completely lost interest in her
Honestly I think the creators intent matters more. Like he had no idea and hasnt changed it because hes "not sure if it hurts guinea pigs irl" That should be damned. it reflects badly on a marriage canidate who is clearly interested in the animal she has. She spends like a lot of her time on the farm talking about him. It doesnt maje sense for her not to know this. If there isnt a mod for this there needs to be. I want me and abigail to have a heart event where we build David Jr and David a mega coop.
While I agree she is mistreating her guinea pig, it's not on purpose but rather because CA probably didn't know about guinea pigs (he definitely should have done more research so people don't copy what they see in the game). It made me like her more, especially since David Jr. moves in after marriage, so marrying Abigail is the only way to get a pet rodent. I just headcanon both Davids to be hamsters since they're solitary and I have hamsters myself, and I just pretend that the weird bar cages that are unsuitable for hamsters too are large tanks that are appropriate for them :D
@@rainbowhamham27 you guys are weird, no one is going to copy what happened in a pixelated game, shit kids don't even play Stardew Valley, it's a game for God's sake, they don't need to make everything accurate, you should be able to tell a big enclosure for the hamster would look weird, it's supposed to be a small prop, to signify there is a hamster there, shit most wouldn't even give an enclosure simply would put a wheel
its weird reading these comments analyzing abigails character and their reason for marrying here while im here just like “i married her bc shes pretty and i like her hair”
Kindred spirit for me. Nerdy, loves videogames, into the spooky stuff, has parents who do love her but have a not so great way of phrasing it, doesn't really know what she wants out of life... I'll admit, she's not the best marriage candidate, but she's my first and so far my fav.
This is the exact same reason I like Abigail too, but for me there's one more bonus: She has a pet guinea pig, and I LOVE guinea pigs! ...oh and a kinda lesser 2nd reason, she seemingly likes purple stuff (dyes her hair purple, and loves amethyst), and I'm obsessed with purple myself
Yeah the fact characters cannot grow at all is one of my biggest issues with stardew. Like Shane and pam still loving beer ( and Shane's even worse considering his room like wtf) and many villagers having stories that kinda just don't go anywhere like marnie and Lewis, Clint and Emily, demetrius etc. And also characters having crushes on other characters ( Alex.) And nothing happening from that because it kinda can't
I feel the same way, and I think it sort of stems from the fact that it's like an 80:20 farming (and mining, foraging, ect):datng/social split, in terms of focus, where Ideally I feel like I'd want it at least 50: 50. And I know dating sims exist, so maybe it's on me for looking for the game to be something it's not, while other games exist, but on the flip side, dating sims (at least that I've played) are too much in the other direction, where they don't scratch that itch that the farming, ect side gets me, and also don't tend to have nearly as fleshed out non-romantic social storylines, if they exist at all.
I couldn't say better. Over time, narrative part of Stardew Valley starts to dissappoint. It's definitely not bad, but... There's so much things lacking and it's just sad. I mean, I don't like any of marriage candidates even tho Abigail an Leah are "my type", their personality is bland and one-sided. So many characters doesn't develop or their development doesn't have consequences. I'm probably gonna try mods if they are any better
But they did go through some changes. They just can't grow and change infinitely. Because you can play the game infinitely and that doesn't work well with storylines.
Abigail was always in that "cute and wholesome, but a bit too weird to be a love interest" sector for me, and even then she was second to Emily in that sector. Simply put, Abi is a friend, not a wife.
Wait? Her 10 heart cutscene is her trying to go IN the mines? She hasn't before? Everyone loves her and puts her up as this adventurer and monster slayer, when she hasn't even gone in once. I've been saved by Maru a few times dying at floor 80+ just because she was looking for gemstones Abigail is a casual.
Nice work! Although Abigail is not my own favorite among the marriage candidates, I like her as a character. The cutscene with the duet by the lake is one of my very favorites.
Maybe people like that her 8 heart event is very clear she has romantic feelings for you? Opposed to all the others where it’s likely to be interpreted as platonic? But as someone who wasn’t interested in her, and was already married when I first got that scene, it was just really awkward.
Could be! The 8 heart event foe Emily is awkward too. When Clint busts into the room and is like... Oh. Congrats farmer. Like dude. I've been married for 2 years...
@@Leapalot yea I never liked Emily that much and only recently got that scene and I was so uncomfortable. Like Clint my dude it took me 4 years to make friends with her and I am happily married, with her sister might I add, for 3. And I've been best buds with you since year 1 I even tried to wingman you with giving Emily amethyst. The fact you assume I would leave my wife for her or have any romantic feelings is frankly offensive.
Haha, this is why I went for the date everyone in town option first. The rabbit's foot sure comes in handy. Although it's weird some of them might still be flirty with you when you give them gifts while already being married.
@@Alfrixpl Yeah but none of that is Emily's fault, it's Clints fault because he's a creepy ass stalker. He needs to appear on an episode of Obsession on Discovery.
@@vengeance1450 yea im not saying I dislike Emily because of that i just was slow to make friends with her and because of that it took me a long time (4th ingame year) to see that event
Exactly, there aren't many marriage candidates that feel older than "Just became an adult". Harvey, Elliot and Shane seem older, but I can't think of any bachelorettes. Emily maybe.
@@trashcubed4788 Leah seems 'older' as well. At least mid twenties if not older. (Which is not old at all, but also is not straight out of High School, like most other Bachelors feel) She is the only female bachelor living by herself. We know she lived a bit by herself in the city before moving to Pelican Town. We know she had a previous serious relationship etc.
Gosh, that Abigail. During my very first playthrough, I was more interested in the farming and fishing aspect. So I didn't talk to many villagers daily. Usually Shane, Evelyn, George and Alex then I went to fish. One day I saw Abigail, and I was running by and said hi. She gave me the angry dialogue, the one about not getting enough sleep. I didn't talk to villagers often so that exchange really soured her for me. Now she's not a marriage candidate for me at all, but the organic friendship that develops is nice. She's more like a best friend, like Sam. I just avoid her when she doesn't get enough sleep. ^^''
Thank you for this. It’s helped me somewhat articulate my feelings about Abigail. Honestly, for me, with Abigail, I feel… pretty much totally neutral. I certainly don’t DISlike her, but… dating/marrying? For some reason it sounds practically unfathomable to me. And it’s weird, because in theory, I should be a fan of her for playing video games and wanting to explore/fight, plus her character portrait looking nicer/prettier than many others’, but… there’s like, nothing compelling romantically for me for some reason. Hell-despite everyone calling her “goth gf”, she doesn’t even read as goth to me! 😅😭 Sebastian is, sure, but she’s just a gamer with purple hair, and not really dark/“goth”-seeming at all, as far as I can tell… Like, am I missing something? Yeah, I don’t know. The best guess I can figure for why she doesn’t read as “dateable/waifu/best girl” to me at all is what you pointed out-just, she acts to childish/immature to read as “attractive”, I guess. Just… “high schooler who doesn’t want to do her homework wants to do some Teenage Rebellion(TM) but not, like, because her parents are actually terribly controlling/doing anything particularly wrong or anything/actually needing a serious stand against like growing up and realizing they are wrong about something.” 🤷♀️ I don’t know. I want to be interested in her, but beyond thinking she’s a decent friend character, I’m just… not.
Listen, most of us are gamers and it's important in a relationship that your partners take an interest in what you enjoy. Even if they are filthy casuals who can't beat the first screen of Journey of the Prairie King /s Abigail is more appealing to me because of her adventurous nature. I enjoy getting out as long as I have a friend to hang out with, so Abby just clicks for me. The fact that magic exists in Stardew means I'd absolutely be pouring over old tomes and such to learn it, so having a friend/colleague for that kind of thing would be great too. Just a shame that the player can't learn any magic. Definitely one of my favourite characters. The game obviously has its limitations, but becoming world-class adventurers with her would be really dope.
I'm pretty sure Caroline is the Wizards Daughter. Abigail couldve inherited her Gene's from her mother. Biggest tip off is her tea scene. Biggest similarity to a certain wizards brewing scene
@@vanyadolly Yeah, I won’t try to judge people but Caroline compared to the wizard looks like a bit of a age gap, the wizard does look more of a grandparent to Abigail than a dad.
@@panangramgepearanan3974 The fathers age doesn't really matter since males can have kids at whatever age, it's females who have the deadline on having children. So the Wizards age doesn't matter, but I do like the theory that Abigail is his grandaughter and not daughter.
Felt that with her feeling too young to be a marriage able option to me lol she gives me like fresh into college vibes where she hasn't decided on a major in her first year and wants to stick with hobbies. Which is fine!! I'm not against that bc I was the same way kinda but I couldn't get into it. Meanwhile some friends were all gunning to romance her and I couldn't fathom why without them defaulting to her being the goth gf
I find Abigail a sham. She knows more than she's telling and it isn't really the mines she's interested in. She's looking for the truth about what happened to Mona and George. What she'll never know is that there is a secret 3rd mine where the other shadow people live that holds the answers to all of the missing pieces of Stardew lore.
@@Champion_of_Vlaakith I've actually thought of writing it out as fan fic but there is so much of that out there already that I just sit back and enjoy the game instead.
I don’t mind her “stuck in life” phase. I mean, most of the candidates are 18-22, right? Harvey is a bit older. But, being that young and not knowing what you want is fairly normal. And what’s the point of restarting your classes if they don’t interest you, and you fall into a position where you don’t need them anymore? I connect with a gamer who likes weird hobbies, and I like that she wants to fight monsters in the mines. No, she isn’t striving for some bigger dream in life, but not everyone does, and she’s comfortable with being different.
I always just liked Abigail because she seemed normal and her heart events just felt sweet tbh. Winning her over is as simple as going to her house and talking to her and her heart events were just stuff like playing video games and hanging out late at night. She feels like a very cozy character imo
@@Sinappisoppa482 I’m gonna fact check you right there my g “Don’t tell anybody but I snuck into the mines last night and got a nasty cut from a rock crab” “Here, I took a walk in the mines and got you this” I knew I wasn’t tripping
Yep! Sebastian does a little bit of rebellion himself! But she's the only one who says she wants to go on adventures and train and whatnot. Also many spouses will drag you out of the mines. Plenty of people go in there, but she's the only one who seems excited about the prospect!
@@Sinappisoppa482 bro I don’t even have any mods in my game and I got those lines. It’s even on the wiki and if it’s still fake then literally everything else on the wiki is fake
I've never been able to place why I don't like Abigail, but this hit the nail on the head! like you said, she doesn't really mature. theres nothing wrong with that, but it makes her seem so young that marrying her feels... wrong. Like she needs more time to figure herself out before making a commitment. Still a fun goth girl, I love befriending her every playthrough
Counter-argument: Having shared interests is important in a relationship, and for people who are into gaming, Abigail obviously has that. She is a bit aimless, but frankly, business is booming on the farm and I don't need any help running it, so there's no pressure on her. Her parents are trying to craft her into someone she doesn't want to be, and it's a major stressor in her life. On the farm, she's free to discover who she wants to be. And maybe she doesn't find it in a career, but that's all right. A life enjoyed is not a life wasted.
Abigail reminds me of my old gf, she sadly passed away, but she looked sorta like Abigail, and the same personality. So I like to kinda "let her live on" in a way.
i never got the abigail hype tbh. i like to make friends with her like i do the rest of the villigars but as a spouce she seems kinda boring tbh, like theres just not much there. i think she's lovely and has a super cool character design tho. as someone else in the comments said she's a friend, not a wife
On my first playthrough, I initially planned to marry Abigail, though ended up liking Leah more. I think a younger me would have been super into her; she's alt, relatable, and "quirky". I think you nailed it when you said she's kind of stuck as a kid, and as an adult i just dont jive with that anymore
I think the fact that I was most likely to run into Abigail while visiting Pierre’s shop played a factor in me picking her, but I also just found myself really enjoying her heart scenes. I feel like, out of all the other marriage candidates, Abigail’s the only one where it’s very strongly implied she has a crush on the player. Maybe it’s just me, but I felt like all the other 8 heart scenes with other candidates could be read as more platonic depending on how you interpret their lines. The spirit board tattling on Abigail is just amusing and cute, and I love to imagine my farmer being completely clueless as to what was going on. She also has a similar arc to Alex if you romance him as a male farmer, where if you’re a female farmer she’ll tell you she never knew she was romantically attracted to girls until she met you, which just gives her a little extra layer of depth and realism in my opinion, because not everyone knows their exact sexuality early on, and being a female farmer helps Abigail discover a side of herself that she might not discover if you’re a male farmer.
She reminds me of myself, a lot. I really don’t know what I’m doing with myself, and being just about to enter college, I’m more hoping that life will make sense eventually. I wish they let her become a real adventurer but you know, game design, but I get where she’s coming from. Also my favorite color is purple so I clocked her immediately.
I'm with you on the character development thing. It's the part where the "one guy made this" thing becomes a "well that explains it" instead of "oh how impressive". All the characters could benefit from some time progression beyond year two.
I'm gonna be real, I really dislike Abigail. As someone who primarily marries Sam and Sebastian, her relationship to them is a bit strange at times. Sebastian makes it clear he isn't interested in spending time with her, but she forces it through anyway (2 heart Sebastian scene I believe). She's super competitive with the kids at the egg hunt. She very much give off "not like other girls" vibes and I'm just not here for it
Yeah her "I'm coming over anyway!" attitude with Sebastian was kind of horrifying. That kind of behaviour is normal for a teenager/young adult but she definitively feels too immature for a relationship.
I couldn't point out exactly why I dislike her so much, but after reading this, it suddenly makes sense. She really does give off massive "not like other girls" vibes
i don't like that she dismisses you when you suggest she dyes her hair blonde, pink or purple again AFTER SHE ASKS YOU WHAT COLOR SHOULD SHE DYE IT other than that, most of my negative views towards abigail actually do stem more from the fact that she's one of the most widely liked characters while other characters i like a lot are often disliked for reasons i seriously cannot fathom, so maybe i shouldn't speak too negatively on her i did marry her once but divorced her before she could give me the stardrop (krobus felt like the right choice for that playthrough in particular). however, after watching this video, maybe i could go for her again in some other save file. thay bit about how she can actually be found in floor 20 of the mines redeemed her a lot in my eyes lol
I posted a tier list online once of the candidates putting Abigail in the “don’t get the hype” tier with some interesting responses one being “Abigail is made for women and women only” which also got a lot of responses, “I’m a lesbian and I hate how young she acts” and “I’ve seen more men want her then women” love wars go strong, anyways Harvey is perfect and if you think he’s boring you’re objectively wrong
she's... unique. and actually would be the kinda girl i'd fall for myself, being young in spirit. but the first marriage candidate I had for Stardew that I stuck with on first playthrough was Emily, then as a female character I'm trying to get with Sebastian; I guess the whole edgy boy/girl next door whose a massive gamer nerd in the closet and is basically a person who is alternative to the world around them makes them more appealing to me personally as they're kinda closer to what I too have become.
Was gonna marry her first probably bc coloured hair is usually a green flag in my experience (they're likely to be having some kind of existential crisis so I can relate) 😂 but as I got to know her she ended up seeming a lil young/immature for me and reminded myself of a younger me. Not judging, but just like in a "I've been there, girl I get it" way. I ended up marrying Emily ☺️ seems to know herself and have it together a lil more, and just super kind person
Her interests are just most similar to mine. Video games, eating, a bit of adventure, food, fighting monsters, snacks, and she seems to be the only one who recognizes that in stardew valley, magic is demonstrably and obviously a real thing. The recognition of the occult being real, plus her reasonable rejection of the "woman in kitchen" mindset pierre probably raised her with, shows a degree of independent thought and arguable intelligence that I like, and didn't really see in any of the other options apart from penny, though that can arguably just be dismissed as a rebellious phase or whatever. Really she's just kinda decent in every area, which puts her above everyone else who has at least one major flaw in my eyes. Leah is a close second in terms of similar interests, but she's just kind of a bad friend/partner in a couple ways. She's quick to get angry about things, inconsistent, and in one of her heart events (depending on how you respond to her ex) shows that she's prone to unprovoked violence (so is abby technically, but only against dungeon monsters that would 100% attack first given the chance). Haley is fine once you befriend her, but starts off awful and vapid so she was pretty much ignored for the whole first year of my first time in the valley. Maru is fine, but kinda too similar to her dad in a lot of ways I don't like too much. Penny is a good person and cares for the kids in town which is super cool, but doesn't have any real visible personality that I noticed my first time through outside of "teacher" which made me pass on her, but not by much, in favor of abigail the first time around
Unprovoked violence? Bruh Leah only slugs her ex because he starts walking all over the farmer who's trying and failing to de-escalate the situation. Moving in to protect your significant other whose clearly struggling is not unprovoked violence
I love how she loves the rain, like i do, plays videogames (Which we all do, obviously), loved her purple hair, liked how she was kinda rebellious... i just liked everything about her. Also, i got to know her through the 'friend group' i made with Sebastian, Sam, and Abigail. We would always go to the saloon on fridays, i would buy pizza's for Sam and Seb, and a salad for Abi (Should have done quatrz tbh), and well... i ended up marrying Abigail as soon as it rained and i was at enough hearts. Also, her events were really cool. There really isn't anything i dislike about her. Even how she eats rocks. (Also that heart cutscene where she nearly confessed love for you.... i knew what i had to do afterwards.) And also... i tend to make fanfics of games i love. (Fire Emblem Three Houses, Smash Bros, Stardew Valley). And i think that with a book format, where the story is everything, and you don't need to worry about gameplay and stuff related to that like in Stardew Valley itself, i think i could do everyone a bit of justice. (Such as Abi ACTUALLY mining with you) So... Abi isn't perfect. No one is, and the fact Stardew Valley is a game hampers that a bit more. But i still love Abi. And i cannot change my mind.
I've never romanced her because of the age thing but she seems like a really awesome person to have as a friend other than the whole not respecting other people's time thing.
Me: "Fighting is dangerous" Abigail: "Oh is it because I'm a GIRL, you think I can't survive ?!" Me: *Missing a leg and half of my shoulder* Yes...It's because you're a weak, helpless girl and I'm a strong capable man But for real she's beautiful and her flute song is my absolute favorite, although I will always choose Elliott
For me it was originally simply cuz I love the color purple (yes I’m serious) but over time I related to her a lot, a shitty father figure and a mother who isn’t helping her grow as a person. Trying to escape reality and finding the comfort of family through her friends. Eager to face the world but not being able to without a guiding role. Also interested in the arcane to a minor extent… Drifting without purpose after high school until an opportunity fell out the sky for me (for her it’s marriage) Also appreciating rain is big win in my books too.
Abigail is the most unique bachelorette in the game by far. Leah is a close second, but Abby is by far my favorite. As to why? Adventurous, the only person to ever partake in music, easy to please, and there's the whole will eat the oddest things bit, lol
@@beththedarkmage3359 Bachelorette means the lady candidates, so you're both right, just a misunderstanding. The boys are called bachelor's. The "ette" part at the end makes it feminine.
Abigail is the best wife! She plays video games with you, her purple hair is cute, and she's the only girl who goes into the mines! Then she marries the millionaire farmer. She's the character we relate to the most! Also it's nice that Amethyst and Pumpkin are easy gifts!
7:41 what makes this even more tragic is that last time I looked into it there are no mods to expand the story of your family. For example, you don't see your kid(s) at any of the festivals. Are we to assume that you just leave them alone at home?
I've never personally seen the hype around Abigail, despite her goth gf aesthetic being as cool as it is. She probably is too young though, I tend to go for Emily or Leah who are way more adult
I've always liked Abby but I've never been super interested in marrying her, idk why. Saying that she feels a bit young does resonate with me, though, so maybe that's why. Of the bachelorettes, I've always liked Maru and Penny more (although I like those two becoming an item even more than I'd like to marry them so there's that too)
@@mudawott Oh my God yes! That would be wonderful! They DO sit on that bench together, so maybe they hold hands and it just doesn't show up very well with the sprites...
We were talking about how pairing off marriage candidates would be super neat in another video! I'd love to see some couples form after you get married.
Maru and Penny would be really cute... And it's funny that Maru's probably supposed to be one of the youngest candidates, but she still comes across as one of the most mature ones.
She doesn't feel young to me, but maybe it is because i am childish myself, i still play with toys at my 25. She feels like the best option, she likes the farm and she likes the mines, the farmer likes the farm and the mines. They just complement each other too well, and if you marry other characters it seems like they give up on their dreams to some level, but with Aby it feels like the opposite, it is a realization of her dreams.
First: Honestly she is the easiest to casually marry. You visit Pierre's often, you usually have a like or love on hand if you spend any amount of time in the mines (Quartz and Amethyst) Amethyst is basically only a sellable so keeping a couple on hand for gifting is easy and Quartz is something you can end up with a lot of and if you are not playing seriously will not be pressing towards quality sprinklers quickly. By the time you are you will be stocking Amethyst. Second: She is relatable in many ways to the average player. Third: Momentium, most players will decide if they are going to marry they will take the easy choice, and as they likely have Abby at 6 hearts for the above reasons by the time most of the others are at two, at best, they will just keep up with Abby.
Abigail is my favorite because she is someone id take on my mining trips. explore the deep woods with her and honestly the people who don't believe in magic (damitreus) are kinda stupid when you have ghost and smiles in the world. also having your spouse be able to defend themselves and not helplessly expect you to save them every time is a big positive to.
It feels like penny is the right spouse. You don't impede her dreams, she gets an upgrade living with you, she gets everything she wants, and you help her mother get her home back. It's all win win with penny. Every other character you stomp on their dreams, except Shane but he's a terrible father.
I am a lesbian, I absolutely wanted my goth gf to live in a cottagecore farm with like cows and cute chickens and stuff, thats, 100% the reason. Also, swords and lesbians go together like chocolate and peanut butter, my headcanon for my playthrough is that I gave her my galaxy sword as an engagement sword. Other reasons are that I myself am very witchy, so felt that bit of similarity and connection there, and I love her drive for adventure and her willingness to put effort into difficult things to achieve her goals no matter what challenges there are. I like how shes artistic and musical and will wander around in the rain to play her flute. I just ended up carrying some of her favourite things on me at all times. It cost a couple slots but then I wouldnt forget. Her heart events were really touching and kinda relatable, -we start out by working as a team to accomplish something very difficult, and she makes a lewd and flirty comment -then we see her completely lost in something she loves, and youre included in it, and make music in the rain -then we are hanging out late at night where she asks about your skills and we get caught by her parents, she stands up to them, and then we run off together to hide and talk more, -she invites you to do some witchy occult stuff with her and either the spirits or her subconcious start to reveal her feelings for you, -you see her fail, and get to comfort her, and she admits she wasnt ready, and admits that she likes you, and this is the first time shes ever liked another woman, -then she faces her fears for you and, saves your life, and, shes really shaken up, and shows a lot of sympathy and understanding for the creature, and creates a grave for it. the last scene made me tear up a bit honestly. But a lot of your points are valid, like, it would be super cool if she progressed more. Took her studies more seriously, progress is always nice to see in a character, and shes no exception. The age thing I dont see personally, but, I'm only 22, many of my friends that are my age are in school, I considered going to art school, so for me its not a big thing, but, older players might feel that way.
I feel like Abigail and I are so similar, she’s just way more outgoing than me, so for a while I had a crush on Harvey while sorta platonically crushing on Abigail, and in my most played save of Stardew I realized one day how close I was growing with Abigail and how stagnant my relationship to Harvey was, so I decided to date and marry Abigail, and it’s so nice having her around the farm giving her the amethyst I bring home from the mines
I wish they did more with the marriage candidates after you marry them they kinda just do nothing but chill in the farm and go to town a couple of times
i actually am perfectly fine with abigail as an NPC, but i don’t like her as a marriage candidate. in honesty, i don’t like any of the younger adults as marriage candidates because they all seem like teenagers or 18 at best, while my farmer is probably much older than them given that they got an office job and shit. if abigail were older tho i still wouldn’t go for her, mostly because she kinda drags me out of the escapist aspect of SDV with her modern tastes. same with seb and sam really
Omg so true, it felt like if they really wanted to go to the city the it’s not in their best interest to never go and settle down. It would be good if Sebastian could go to the city for a year and come back or something.
@@TheOtherChosenOnes yeah for almost all the candidates i feel like we hold them back from their ambition by marrying them. that’s one of the reasons why i always go for Elliott; he’s the only one i’m %100 sure isn’t pulled away from his dreams when u marry him
@@lord_ozymandias I married Elliot too, lol. He still writes/spends time away from the house, but does state that he wasn’t made to be a bachelor. It’s nice.
Abigail is the perfect one for me. It is amazing to me she has a birthday in the fall on the 13th sorta like mine. She could have a mystical background, yet her courage is what amazes me. There bigger connections between her and I, but unless my real life fiancé plays the game, Abigail will always be the one.
well, I married Abigail on account of her parents owning the only store in the village, and being the prominent businessman and rampant colonizer I am, it seemed only logical
Okay, to go with the Abigail is the Wizard's daughter theory; What if what Pierre is stashed away is actually a blood test revealing Abigail is not really his daughter? Maybe that's why he doesn't want Caroline to know what he has stashed away because he doesn't want her to know that he knows. Or maybe the Wizard used the Shrine to erase Caroline's memories so she wouldn't remember their affair and truly believes that Abigail is Pierre's daughter and that she's dying her hair when in actuality it was the brown hair that was the dyed as Abigail says that she can't really remember the last time she dyed her hair. Caroline's mind may have supplanted false information to fill in the gaps in her memory left behind by the magic. The dialogue of Pierre not knowing for sure if Abigail is his daughter and the Wizard saying he may have a child in town are them dancing around it, wanting to speak the truth but unable or unwilling to shake the peace the two share. Cause even if Caroline's memory is erased, Pierre's is not. The truth is known to him. This is why Caroline says she used to stroll around the Wizard's tower (not saying anything about meeting the Wizard) but not to tell Pierre because he gets jealous. It's not jealousy. It's him remembering what she has no recollection of.
Although I think Abigail is pretty similar to me I always found her a bit too young feeling to be a viable marriage candidate. I love nerdy hobbies but I can find that in Harvey
Here’s why I know Abigail isn’t the Wizard’s daughter: he would know which woman he slept with. It’s way more likely that Abigail’s mother is the wizard’s daughter from an affair decades earlier and he doesn’t recognize her because he never met her. Heck, it’s just as likely that Linus is his child.
I really like your take on her Leapalot! This was a fascinating musing on her character and that almost melancholy ending to her chance to finish her studies and be more adult. Ps, I reckon she's more pop punk than goth. That's the only thing I disagree on!
@@laineygreen Dont worry he is not abandoned. Im like pretty sure the implication is caroline takes care of him because shes attached and it reminds her of abigail.
Idk, I'm not big on her as a marriageable character (maybe because I always lean towards male characters in literally anything I play/watch - an early sign of the gay I missed by a long shot all these years lol) but I definitely don't hate her. I get the appeal she has on players. I share her interests in adventure and magic and gaming but that's probably about it for me, personally.
caroline looks SO YOUNG- younger than her own daughter- and tbch i thought she was a marriage candidate when i first saw her and got rlly sad bc she’s vry cute
I love Abigail she's my fav candidate. I can explain why but this might get a bit long so bear with me lol To me from a storytelling perspective she feels like a more organic and natural romance then some of the other candidates and theres just a lot of similarities between her and the player I've noticed. She wants more out of life than what she knows which is similar to how the player escapes thier old life to seek a better one. She lives at the general store, which means the farmer will naturally see her more often. She's the only candidate to use a sword and even wonder what's in the mines which also matches up with how the farmer goes into the mines so I could see her as a potential mining partner in the future. She's potentially got a magic background and ties to the Wizard which the farmer also has later on. She likes video games which appeals to the player themselves rather then the farmer. I don't know if it's canon in the main game but in the expanded mod she can see the junimos which no one else but the player can see. She's the only character to actually confess (sort of) that she has feelings for the farmer before a bouquet is given and is one character I felt wanted to also be a friend to the farmer instead of just flirting. Honestly the age thing doesn't bother me because the developer said all the candidates are at least early 20's and I don't see my farmer as a self insert but more like the main character in his own story so his age would be more in line with the candidates. It's also not real life lol. Also goth gamer gf, if that doesn't appeal to you I'm not sure what else to say lol.
I don't usually marry Abigail but she's an appealing and interesting person in a lot of ways - adventurous, moody, musical, has some very poetic lines, and she likes games. She varies her schedule more than most of the characters, shows up in a lot of different places. Also I usually give tree fruit as a liked gift, so her "This looks delicious" dialogue always seemed completely normal :D
I don't understand how anyone can think Maru is boring. No spoilers but have you seen what's in her basement? That girl is going to take over the world some day so you might as well be on her good side.
This video was a year ago, but i don't care. I don't dislike Abigail, but I HATE the heart events where she defends me from that grass golem. I joined the adventurer guild, I'VE SLAYED THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of monster to complete the list and eventually did (first playthrough, year 3). Then I got married to her, saw her 14 heart event, AND FELT ABSOLUTLY RIDICULOUS. NAH unh, I ain't doing this anymore. NOT ONLY SHE BEAT ME IN MY FIRST EVER EVENT (egg hunt), but THE GAME also think THAT I CAN'T HANDLE A STUPID GOLEM EVEN WHEN IF IT WAS A SNEAKY ATTAK? Man, she wasn't even my first marriage candidate anyway 😤😤
I’m older and agree Abigail is just really young and never seems to mature. Everyone seems to kind of grow around her and she expects that of them as well. Nothing is ever her responsibility.
idk if im really a fan of any of the marriage candidates i usually just go for sam but abigail is very convenient with where you can find her / her loved gifts so idk
I married her because I saw screenshot of her gifting a fire quartz to the player and I thought that was the only way to get fire quartz

the brown hair was a glamor to trick Pierre. once she dyed it her actual natural color it broke the spell.

That's awesome! Those stories of just making friends and getting closer are really really neat. Thanks for sharing that. 😁
@@Leapalot Appreciate the reply, keep up the good work!
I had the same experience, but I only really like her as a friend. It was a bit soul-crushing to turn her down.
I just really love the old couple so I decided to marry their grandson 😂
I still love Shane and his events though.

Big agree. I feel like she appeals to people who want a low stakes teen romance kinda thing.

@@ThyFloorestFloor same. I go mining a lot.
In my stardew video I commented saying Abigail was a giant poser and felt her 14 heart event was crazy weak and did a lot of disservice to her character, especially since we can find her on Floor 20 of the mines...It's quite difficult to get to floor 20 without killing monsters, yet she did exactly that...She seems too idealized and just kinda rubbed me wrong
when you talk to her at level 20 im pretty sure she says she didn't fight anyone on the way down.
It very much gives off manic pixie dream girl vibes in that regard
It's likely she just used the elevator. At that time, the Farmer could've reached floor 120 already.
And he helps out on the farm a lot too.
is this what a femcel looks like oh my god /j
Also, Elliott is so sweet, he's not a himbo lmaoo
I'm straight, and I'd choose Elliott over her
Most of the marriage candidates feel too young for me, and I'm only 25! I think it's hard to see someone who's constantly complaining about school and parents as old enough to marry. Leah is the one who feels the most like my age.
Same here
Same, some of the candidates feel too much like teenagers to me.
When I found out she only had one guinea pig I completely lost interest in her
Poor David....
Honestly I think the creators intent matters more. Like he had no idea and hasnt changed it because hes "not sure if it hurts guinea pigs irl"
That should be damned. it reflects badly on a marriage canidate who is clearly interested in the animal she has.

Funny how those are the reasons I thought she was kinda boring, it's like 'damn she's just like me fr' but not in a good way
i agree wholeheartedly
I agree bruh I can see myself in her like fr we have so much in common and abi is someone I'd feel comfortable with irl

Abigail was my fave when I was 17 now I'm 23 and she feels like a kid to me
Exactly, there aren't many marriage candidates that feel older than "Just became an adult". Harvey, Elliot and Shane seem older, but I can't think of any bachelorettes. Emily maybe.
@@trashcubed4788 Leah feels older to me, that's one of the reasons I like her
@@trashcubed4788 Leah seems 'older' as well.
I like Abigail! She's my second favorite bachelorette. I'd love to be her adventuring/gaming buddy
Just… “high schooler who doesn’t want to do her homework wants to do some Teenage Rebellion(TM) but not, like, because her parents are actually terribly controlling/doing anything particularly wrong or anything/actually needing a serious stand against like growing up and realizing they are wrong about something.”
🤷♀️ I don’t know. I want to be interested in her, but beyond thinking she’s a decent friend character, I’m just… not.
Listen, most of us are gamers and it's important in a relationship that your partners take an interest in what you enjoy.
Even if they are filthy casuals who can't beat the first screen of Journey of the Prairie King /s
Abigail is more appealing to me because of her adventurous nature.
I would love a magic tome and to grow my powers! All I can do is teleports with this stupid rod.
You marry Abigail because hot goth gf.
I marry Abigail because I don't want to visit Pierre's to talk to her.
We are not the same
Same. I marry Abigail because honestly get that man away from Caroline and Abigail. Fuck that guy.
galaxy brain
I'm pretty sure Caroline is the Wizards Daughter. Abigail couldve inherited her Gene's from her mother. Biggest tip off is her tea scene. Biggest similarity to a certain wizards brewing scene
That's actually a pretty solid theory. Caroline having an affair with the wizard seems less and less likely the more lore we've heard
Interesting theory, and it could check out. I personally like the Jas theory, but I guess we'll never know. 🤷🏻♀️
some grandkids really take after their grandparents too, her not looking like pierre isnt that unusual too me
@@vanyadolly Yeah, I won’t try to judge people but Caroline compared to the wizard looks like a bit of a age gap, the wizard does look more of a grandparent to Abigail than a dad.
@@panangramgepearanan3974 The fathers age doesn't really matter since males can have kids at whatever age, it's females who have the deadline on having children. So the Wizards age doesn't matter, but I do like the theory that Abigail is his grandaughter and not daughter.
For the longest time I held a huge grudge against Abigail because she beat me in the first egg hunt.
This will become a mod.

No, she isn’t striving for some bigger dream in life, but not everyone does, and she’s comfortable with being different.
same. the only thing i dislike is how bad the treated her parents.. makes me feel bad
when i started, i decided to marry her just because she has a vibrant purple hair 💀
Honestly, is that so bad?
I always just liked Abigail because she seemed normal and her heart events just felt sweet tbh. Winning her over is as simple as going to her house and talking to her and her heart events were just stuff like playing video games and hanging out late at night. She feels like a very cozy character imo

Oh, im so sorry that it happened to you. 🫂🫂
i never got the abigail hype tbh. i like to make friends with her like i do the rest of the villigars but as a spouce she seems kinda boring tbh, like theres just not much there. i think she's lovely and has a super cool character design tho. as someone else in the comments said she's a friend, not a wife
We (the player) are playing a game, therefore we like videogames... sooooooooo the videogame loving GF just kind of makes sense.
She really does give off massive "not like other girls" vibes
i don't like that she dismisses you when you suggest she dyes her hair blonde, pink or purple again AFTER SHE ASKS YOU WHAT COLOR SHOULD SHE DYE IT
other than that, most of my negative views towards abigail actually do stem more from the fact that she's one of the most widely liked characters while other characters i like a lot are often disliked for reasons i seriously cannot fathom, so maybe i shouldn't speak too negatively on her
i did marry her once but divorced her before she could give me the stardrop (krobus felt like the right choice for that playthrough in particular). however, after watching this video, maybe i could go for her again in some other save file. thay bit about how she can actually be found in floor 20 of the mines redeemed her a lot in my eyes lol
I totally thought Abigail was a teenager for the longest time
I posted a tier list online once of the candidates putting Abigail in the “don’t get the hype” tier with some interesting responses one being “Abigail is made for women and women only” which also got a lot of responses, “I’m a lesbian and I hate how young she acts” and “I’ve seen more men want her then women” love wars go strong, anyways Harvey is perfect and if you think he’s boring you’re objectively wrong
Alex is my favorite. He is the nicest in our marriage. He gives me lots of compliments and helps out on the farm.
Alex will be a fun video too!
abigail eats rocks and i enjoy that feral energy
I love Abigail’s competitive side she’s my favorite stare down at the egg festival. Also she gives you crab cakes and idk she’s just awesome to me 😄
she's... unique. and actually would be the kinda girl i'd fall for myself, being young in spirit. but the first marriage candidate I had for Stardew that I stuck with on first playthrough was Emily, then as a female character I'm trying to get with Sebastian; I guess the whole edgy boy/girl next door whose a massive gamer nerd in the closet and is basically a person who is alternative to the world around them makes them more appealing to me personally as they're kinda closer to what I too have become.
I see you went from purple to blue. 😅
Marrying her gets her away from Pierre which definitely swayed me into marrying her instead of having krobus move in
@@mudawott marrying penny gets her away from pam too though
(Also that heart cutscene where she nearly confessed love for you.... i knew what i had to do afterwards.)
And also... i tend to make fanfics of games i love. (Fire Emblem Three Houses, Smash Bros, Stardew Valley). And i think that with a book format, where the story is everything, and you don't need to worry about gameplay and stuff related to that like in Stardew Valley itself, i think i could do everyone a bit of justice. (Such as Abi ACTUALLY mining with you)
So...
I think people are drawn to her design and her geeky interests
Me: "Fighting is dangerous"
Abigail: "Oh is it because I'm a GIRL, you think I can't survive ?!"
Me: *Missing a leg and half of my shoulder* Yes...It's because you're a weak, helpless girl and I'm a strong capable man
But for real she's beautiful and her flute song is my absolute favorite, although I will always choose Elliott
Also interested in the arcane to a minor extent…
Drifting without purpose after high school until an opportunity fell out the sky for me (for her it’s marriage)
Also appreciating rain is big win in my books too.
Abigail is the most unique bachelorette in the game by far. Leah is a close second, but Abby is by far my favorite. As to why? Adventurous, the only person to ever partake in music, easy to please, and there's the whole will eat the oddest things bit, lol

7:41 what makes this even more tragic is that last time I looked into it there are no mods to expand the story of your family. For example, you don't see your kid(s) at any of the festivals. Are we to assume that you just leave them alone at home?
Actually your kids do come to festivals now. They hang around your spouse.
I wish kids could grow up and interact with others like jas and vincent
I've never personally seen the hype around Abigail, despite her goth gf aesthetic being as cool as it is. She probably is too young though, I tend to go for Emily or Leah who are way more adult

I've always liked Abby but I've never been super interested in marrying her, idk why. Saying that she feels a bit young does resonate with me, though, so maybe that's why. I also she loves an adventure and a very relatible character and yes i love her style.
She doesn't feel young to me, but maybe it is because i am childish myself, i still play with toys at my 25. She feels like the best option, she likes the farm and she likes the mines, the farmer likes the farm and the mines. They just complement each other too well, and if you marry other characters it seems like they give up on their dreams to some level, but with Aby it feels like the opposite, it is a realization of her dreams.
abigail said she had feelings for me and I never turn anyone down so I love her
I was smitten by some of her dialog, which can be incredibly beautiful, but was really disappointed when I married her.
Try marrying Elliot, he gives you sappy love poetry on the regular. He's the best marriage candidate tbh.
@@Quazex 100% agree. He a really loving dad, too. I've tried marrying others, but I always come back to Elliott.
Her heart events were really touching and kinda relatable,
-we start out by working as a team to accomplish something very difficult, and she makes a lewd and flirty comment
-then we see her completely lost in something she loves, and youre included in it, and make music in the rain
-then we are hanging out late at night where she asks about your skills and we get caught by her parents, she stands up to them, and then we run off together to hide and talk more,
-she invites you to do some witchy occult stuff with her and either the spirits or her subconcious start to reveal her feelings for you,
-you see her fail, and get to comfort her, and she admits she wasnt ready, and admits that she likes you, and this is the first time shes ever liked another woman,
-then she faces her fears for you and, saves your life, and, shes really shaken up, and shows a lot of sympathy and understanding for the creature, and creates a grave for it.
the last scene made me tear up a bit honestly.
But a lot of your points are valid, like, it would be super cool if she progressed more. Took her studies more seriously, progress is always nice to see in a character, and shes no exception. The age thing I dont see personally, but, I'm only 22, many of my friends that are my age are in school, I considered going to art school, so for me its not a big thing, but, older players might feel that way.
i'm about to marry Abigail starting year 2 (this is my first playthrough) and you just described my thought process as a lesbian myself lmao

I feel like Abigail and I are so similar, she’s just way more outgoing than me, so for a while I had a crush on Harvey while sorta platonically crushing on Abigail, and in my most played save of Stardew I realized one day how close I was growing with Abigail and how stagnant my relationship to Harvey was, so I decided to date and marry Abigail, and it’s so nice having her around the farm giving her the amethyst I bring home from the mines

i actually am perfectly fine with abigail as an NPC, but i don’t like her as a marriage candidate. in honesty, i don’t like any of the younger adults as marriage candidates because they all seem like teenagers or 18 at best, while my farmer is probably much older than them given that they got an office job and shit.
if abigail were older tho i still wouldn’t go for her, mostly because she kinda drags me out of the escapist aspect of SDV with her modern tastes. same with seb and sam really

Okay, to go with the Abigail is the Wizard's daughter theory;
What if what Pierre is stashed away is actually a blood test revealing Abigail is not really his daughter?
Heck, it’s just as likely that Linus is his child.

caroline looks SO YOUNG- younger than her own daughter- and tbch i thought she was a marriage candidate when i first saw her and got rlly sad bc she’s vry cute
I love Abigail she's my fav candidate. I can explain why but this might get a bit long so bear with me lol
To me from a storytelling perspective she feels like a more organic and natural romance then some of the other candidates and theres just a lot of similarities between her and the player I've noticed.
Honestly, I find Abigail boring. Her and Maru are my least favorite bachelorettes.
Nothing is ever her responsibility.
idk if im really a fan of any of the marriage candidates
i usually just go for sam but abigail is very convenient with where you can find her / her loved gifts so idk
