White Sox fans were mad when rising star Fernando Tatis Jr was traded to the Padres for James Shields, who would fizzle: a shortstop for a pitcher trade. But decades ago, in December 1984, the Padres made a trade with them in which the White Sox got rising star Ozzie Guillen for Lamar Hoyt: a shortstop for pitcher trade. Hoyt, the 1983 AL Cy Young Award Winner who showed potential with the Padres but who was getting arrested for drug problems and his career fizzled.

Imagine him added to the young talent the Sox have already! But honestly, Timmy and Tatis both deserve full time SS gigs, it would be a crime to have it any different. And since Timmy just won the batting title, watcha gonna do? What the Sox needed to get for him was a top starting pitcher a la Degrom or Strasberg. Still, Sox GM so far ahead of the curve by signing all these young prospects to long term contracts so they can't make 24 million in arbitration like Betts did. He is really 5-10 years ahead of his time with that idea. Go Sox! Go Padres! Love to see that WS soon....

The A's are doing really good, but it will be tough to beat Boston in the wildcard race
