Hi Jessy, hi everyone ! Does anyone has settings suggestions for 0.1mm height on Mars 2 Pro, please ? Thanks !
Umm, pretty sure you didn’t just put a layered pastry dessert over your face. That sir, is a balaclava. :D Great work on the helmet! Can’t wait to print mine when my Mono X shows up.
I had a giggle when he pointed his light at the resin cup.
When in doubt... do dumb things and capture it on camera ;)
The upside is that we saw what happens if you point the light at the resin for just a second. Live and learn.
I also had a giggle when he called it "baklava"
Seems like most the stupid things in life I do somehow ended up on camera. ...
I was immediately like oh no....
One important point also is to use eye protection, even when staring at the UV light hitting the piece.
Thank you for mentioning that! (In contrast to "Uncle Jessy" in his video)..... Strong UV Light exposure is one of the most likely reason for the lens of the human eye to develop cataract! Those UV-Printers do not have a protective housing without reason... UV Protection gogles cost maybe around 10 bucks, but can save you from having to get eye surgery! And also wear a FFP2 or 3 mask... those resin fumes aren't healthy as well.
Not necessary because the UV wavelengths are around 405nm on SLA printers which is not harmful to humans, that being said it's best not to look at it directly anyway however I doubt eye protection is needed.
@@BazamO he’s talking about his uv
Flashlight dude
@@youretotallyrightbut463 that uv pen light is utilizing the same UV wave length so it would still apply.
I'm new to resin printing and 3D printing in general, and just wanted to pop in while I'm binging your videos and let you know how incredibly helpful this all is! Very well made tutorials, and I'm excited to have this skill set and resource for my cosplays. :)
This is the video I have been wanting :D I love my FDM printers but to have a resin printed helmet would be fantastic thanks Jessy!
I have just finished printing a helmet on my Saturn (sanding & welding to go) nice to see your example
Resin welding! That needs to be a career choice now
Your videos are always great and informative.
I really can’t wait to see your finished results after the sanding and the resizing the one cheek.
Printing that cheek right now and then on to sanding!! Cant wait to get this one painted
really cool video! I can't wait to see the follow up vieo's on this helmets!
cool stuff! been painting resin and using a small UV light to fix models and fill gaps, never did something this large!!!
Freaking awesome! I’m so thankful for your Saturn screen cleaning video and this!
I’m absolutely amazed how sturdy the resin welding appears to work. I was really concerned about it’s strength
Yep, I would say the resin cleaning worked 100% this was all printed after that. Yeah the helmet seems to be holding up really well so far
That’s a super cool process. Thanks so much for sharing, and for the model credit. Can’t wait to see how it looks completed. 👍
The man the myth the legend! Amazing model man! Thanks for sharing it with everyone
Something I've been investing some time in lately is learning to key my models as I transition from the relatively huge FDM printer to the half size resin plate. This is a snap in most modelers but I also watched a vid on youtube using meshmixer. It was a bit more work but if one wants to go the free route without having to deal with a dedicated modeling program, I can say that'd be my option too if I were in that boat. Thank you ancient zbrush version.
Great job! I like how you wielded the pieces together. Great job!
Great video. Loved the oops moment. Totally something I would have done. I wonder if it would have been any easier and had similar result if you had used glue to join, then brushed on resin to fill the gaps.
Haha yeah that was a real... the heck was i thinking moment.
I loved the "and Im using the same.......!!" as you pan your UV light over the pot of resin..!! lol!! shouldn't laugh to loud as I would do exactly the same!
i do resin welding a lot in my helmet builds, first use the super glue to do the initial hold, then u want to brush the resin on the inside of the helmet so u dont lose any details on the outside and less clean up.
Great video! I have been loving your resin techniques and thought about this the other day. I am all FDM printing right now but your videos and makes always motivate me to want to get a resin printer in the future. Keep it up! I have a few makes going up soon as well 😉
Love your videos Jessy! thanks for this one
Thanks for checking it out! More to come
Lesson to be learned is that when you weld 2 pieces of metal together, you grind a bevel into the 2 pieces and add material to the V notch for a complete connection. So when trying to weld Resin prints with Resin the same should apply. Sand a bevel into both faces to be connected and use thin layers at a time and cure each one. This will take a bit longer but will give a better overall weld especially once sanded.
Or you could easily model the bevel into the piece before print....just sayin!
Very cool. Just may have to print that one
this is a cool thing man! A hint from me, if the parts are too narrow for a printed joint, you can also put holes for 1 mm steel pins in your part and stick that together. It is a bit more to do in preprocessing, but it will saves a bunch of time and nerves while assembling.
Great video! Happy to see this welding process doesn't involve a soldering iron XD Going to pick up a UV pen to weld parts from my new Phrozen Sonic Mighty 4K. Thanks for the walkthrough on the process. I was wondering if there's a tried and true, definitive way to get clear visors printed in resin (even with some tint), but that one can see through fine.
This is exactly why I wanna learn how to add mortise to the separate pieces, it would make assembly soooo much easier
This video was great when you used the light on the resin on accident. It showed how fast it cured which I was surprised. Mistakes sometimes are the best awesome video 👍👍
It was damn near immediate. Pretty wild to see in action
After watching your channel, I finally bit the bullet and picked up my own Saturn. It'll be here next week!!
Very, very cool!
Nice video and glad to see you have a mando bucket.
DOPE video as always brotha!!!
thanks brotha! Doing a little fun modeling this afternoon :)
Been printing alot of Mando helmets myself for buddies on my sunlu S8 and used the cut files to print some on my ender 3. Really great files.
Thanks Kelly. Glad you like them. 👍
@@RobPauza ok I will just throw it out there.... darthvader concept art helmet 😘
I know this is an older video, but I would love to see something on mixing different resins for their unique properties.
Very cool and a great demo on how quickly the resin cures. Wasn't there someone advertising on youtube about this fantastic glue which cures with a UV pen? Now we know how it's done!
Great video I wanna get a saturn but its been out of stock for ages . Is good to see ill be able to get some good prints off
Awesome video! Very helpful!
Thanks for checking it out!
awesome vid. just sliced an object this morning that I was wondering how I was going to join back together. I will definately give this a shot. seems like a small amount of superglue to hold it in place then weld might be an easier way to go.
Thanks so much I’ve been trying to deside weather I want to get a resin or filament printer because I want to make a variety of things but only have the budget for one type this means i will be able to print larger things on a resin printer aswell as the small things I will be making a lot more of
Great project. Nice to see the resin welding process. Going to be picking up a Phrozen Mighty soon and hope to do bigger builds too, not being limited by the build volume. Is there a strong (not so brittle) resin out there in the market yet?
Thanks for the tip with the PTFE spray on the FEP film, works like a charm on my anycubic MonoX
Oh man that is my absolute go to for every machine I work with now
@@UncleJessy as soon as i saw the video i had it on order, it makes sense but was skeptical of hazy FEP , no sense in 4K if the film is kaputt :)
This is super cool!!! It's a good fit.
YEah! was really excited to see it fit properly!
That is awesome man!
Seen this a while ago from 3d printing pro... I like to combo, "spot weld" with super glue to hold in place, then resin "weld" for strong smooth bond
when you put the uv pen light on the cup of resin i screamed!! LOL
I was able to get some dice I printed fully transparent by sanding them down to 2k grit, and then buffing them with some wax..it was elegoo clear blue though and not thay dark...but it was thicker than the visor
I think I also saw some guides for making clear lenses, by adding clear UV after cure and then curing it...haven't tested this though..
Sick helmet man, keep up the awesome work
I plastic sheild like for grinding and plasma cutting will fit the bill for the visor, and not mucking about. you can either get a clear on and put car tint on it once cut to fit, or but one thats already tinted to use.
i would love so much to see you update or finish this helmet.. pleaseeeee !
SUPER STRONG mix - Equal parts of each. Siraya Tech - Tenacious - Sculpt - Blu
I've made parts out of this mix for racing motorcycles that I've tested and have lasted 6-7 months, so far.
Printing them on the Phrozen Transform, btw.
Great idea. Same as welding with a 3D pen. Might not be cheapest but definitely handy if u make any oops moments and get cracks or splits
I've definitely done this with dnd terrain where the resin cracks when pulling off supports.
So I have an idea, now FDM print and brush on resin to smooth out layer lines since it cures so fast and easy to sand.
Some people do it here on youtube and yes, it works
Great video Jessy. Any plans to see a Elgoo Saturn vs EPAX E10 video soon?
I didn't know too much about resin and hardening it with UV light. However, I laughed so hard when he put the light on his cup of resin, even before he said anything. He mentioned how fast it hardened so many times before. I'm glad he laughed too
🤦♂️🤦♂️ will never be able to live that one down 😂🤣
This is the type of thing that FDM printers are made for. I printed two Mandolorian helmets, one of them slightly oversized to accommodate my oversized head. Both printed in a single piece. Using PLA, the helmets came out extremely solid. The normal-sized one took almost a 1KG spool. The larger one took a little over a spool. Spools are about $20-$25. The printer I used is a X1 Sidewinder with a 300mm x 300mm x 400mm build area that retails for as low as $362. I have four resin printers, two from Elegoo, so I'm not an FDM-or-die kind of person. Resin is just too brittle and expensive for wearable prints, and the perfect application for an inexpensive FDM printer. I think every maker's second printer should be the kind they don't have.
Makes me want one
Awesome video! Didn't realize you could do resin welding. Going to pick up a pen now. And for some reason, I'm now craving a baklava. :) (You meant to say "balacava" which is the type of mask you were wearing.) Never change, Jessy!!
having made this helmet in parts too in its could really do with some registration keys to line up the edges
This is so awesome
Thanks mate!
Can’t wait to get started on my mandalorian armor when my Saturn gets here Tuesday. Where did you get your design files from
Ive got a head like a house cat, so Id have to print that thing at like 150%, with that said, awesome video as usual, lots of great info even if its a couple years old.
One thing that might speed up the process would be modeling some keys along the joins, like a plastic model kit, on the inside where they won't be seen. That way it holds itself together while welding.
You might 3d print a stand for the penlight so you have both hands free for hold/moving the parts under it, if it becomes something you do often it might actually be a good idea to rig up a dedicated resin "welder" with a light on a stand and a foot switch :)
now that’s a good tip on the welding
Awesome
@unclejessy you made a new subscriber out of me and my wife. We love your videos and your 3D printing skills. She loves the Mandalorian helmet you made. She wanted to know if you could make The Child figure and do a time lapse video on how you create your helmets and figures.
Your page is LIFE!! Thank you 🙏🏽 for all that you do. 😃🙌🏽💯
Great job! Looks like you really could have used a helper or a jig to hold the pieces in place.
I am a fanboy of Star Wars so this is amazing, is it better to print this on FDM ? I have a small resin printer and it runs non stop
Amazing content thank you for helping everyone with this
new hobby.
It will be nice interesting to see how easy it will be for you to remove the oversized part and replace it now thats it been joined with resin
Man, that baklava looks really sweet!
I was debating between the Saturn and the Mars 3, and I think this video ended the debate. Going with the Mars 3.
I recommend getting the head measuring calipers. I bought mine for like $4 on AliExpress.
Funny this came out I am in the post process for one of these as we speak lol. Had to 3d model a helmet stand for it baseplate is the beskar steel logo and led lights run up to the top to light up the helmet from inside out and throw a downward light shadow.
Hi Uncle Jessy, !!! I really love your videos, they are very educational and they have helped me a lot. thanks for all that... I have a question, I make (fabricate) helmets and masks of all kinds, I make them in a traditional way, wedclay or clay, molds, casting ... i'm wondering if you could help me, I want to buy a resin printer, which one do you recommend? (I say this is for the size of the prints)... Thanks again and congratulations on your videos !!!
That's a pretty cool system for attaching large sections together. I think you went in the wrong order though. Doing the top of the helmet first would give you those large flat curves that would help with alignment. I'd have probably done top front 2, then top back 2, then top front and rear joined, then lower rear sides and finally front lower sides. (or possibly the lower side trim pieces) This avoids trying to align small joints without something nearby to brace them on while you're using the UV light.
Since the model is intended to be assembled from multiple parts, I'm surprised the author didn't put in little alignment pins and holes like they've been using in scale model kits for decades.
One thing you didn't mention about this project is that if you're going to paint the finished object, you probably want to print in a light color so the UV light will penetrate better and cure all the way through your resin welds. (black probably wouldn't be ideal since it would pretty much only cure the surface of your joints)
U the man!
lets great thanks for sharing.
could you please also make a video of the process of sanding and primering for the resin
?
p.s. have you ever try the Esun hard resin?
Uncle Jessy Great video like always what settings you use for the Elegoo Saturn can you pls tell me
I wonder how well this method would work for layer filling. I know resin probably isnt the cheapest method, but it could be worth some testing.
Where's the helmet update video? Looking forward to see how you finished it. I'm going to make the same 8 piece helmet when my saturn arrives. Already printing the vent and ear pieces on my mono right now
I tend to fill in holes using resin welding, but for filling in seams, I tend to glue them together first and then just fill the seams in.
Great video and perfect for answering my question of can it be done, now I know it can! I recently purchased the Saturn 8K and Wash & Cure Station and I'm itching to print my own Gar Saxon or Paz Vizla helmet but I'm gonna have to practice first!
Oh, on a side note and something that I had to rewind and watch again because it made me chuckle, you said you put on a baklava so you wouldn't have skin contact with the recently cured resin. Well baklava is actually a Mediterranean confectionary! "Baklava (/bɑːkləˈvɑː, ˈbɑːkləvɑː/,[1] or /bəˈklɑːvə/;[2] Ottoman Turkish: باقلوا ) is a layered pastry dessert made of filo pastry, filled with chopped nuts, and sweetened with syrup or honey. It was one of the most popular sweet pastries of Ottoman cuisine" The word you meant to say was Balaklava, just an "L&A" missing lol.
Thanks for this awesome video! I attempted something similar, but my pieces didn't fit. I can't find any videos that cover possible issues when printing multiple parts. Could it have been the angle? Or maybe the shape got deformed while printing? My cut lines didn't come out very straight. Any suggestions or links would be of great help!
So does the pen light penetrate the resin deep enough to cure it all the way inside the joint, or does it just cure the surface?
I am in the process now of printing this on my CR-10S and it is almost done. 94 hours in so far
Very cool, I’m definitely going to print this off and make one. I think I’ll use superglue also, so the insides are stuck together.
Thinking of the inside of the helm , could you use gauze and paint the resin over it ? would that help to make it stronger or not be needed ??
You should do a Video on the Ethernet port use on the Saturn I just unpacked my New Saturn and have no idea what it's for? The manual doesn't say much about it.
Can you print the full armour via this method or is pla printing more suitable?
Question - What uv safety glasses / goggles do you recommend?
Elegoo's wash and cure looks very familiar. I swear I have seen that same product before somewhere else.
A lightsaber wielding Jedi you are not. Great video!
Reckon you could use the resin to slush cast the inside of a FDM helmet to strengthen the inside?
I hope You do a video showing how to paint up the helmet.
Can you paint the outside of the helmet with some thing like spray on rubber then sand it and then chrome paint it?
could you spray prime it with platidip spraypaint to give it extra protection?
I will try this with my FDM printer. I hope it fits. I only have 15x15x15cm
Quality of life tip - buy some needle-nose dropper bottles from Amazon, tape the outside with electrical or duct tape to prevent UV exposure, then fill with the resin.
Super easy to apply to fine cracks and seams, with minimal mess. Also, look at using some masking tape on the underside to hold the pieces together and prevent resin leaking out of the crack. Also, consider picking up a fine UV laser instead of a flashlight. Techno-glow website sells good ones for cheap. Much more concentrated and precise, and the resin cures in seconds - you can actually see a small curl of smoke coming off the resin as it instantly flash-cures.
You should add registration marks to the STL to make the assembly process easier.
This seems more like gap filling than gluing or "welding" since the joint inside part doesn't get any light and wont cure. So you only have adhesion on the outsides. Still a great video I enjoy the channel.
I use a 60w LED UV light and clear resin, it cures all the way through a 15mm thick part.
What grit sandpaper do u use for resin prints?
A little trick: when you print in multiple parts it is useful to add joints to reattach the various pieces easily
Is it possible to reinforce the back of the seams with something like fibreglass or carbon fiber strips that has been soaked in resin?
hay Uncle jessy im new to 3d resin printing and i had a question ? when printing in peace's how do you no how to scale everything so that it will all fit together when putting it together ?
