Wow! I just stumbled across your video. An absolute informational classic. I saw my childhood home on Colbert Circle. Lots of memories on that street. The areas you depicted were a major reason I joined the Army at 17 years old, a few months after graduation. It was the quickest way to remove me from this environment so that I could see life had so much more to offer than what my childhood environment exposed me to.
wow so much has changed there since i was there in from 80's to the early 1990's as a kid watching this brings back memories of my mother moving use back there in 1992 then my grandparents adopted me in wv and i spent the rest of my teen life there then i moved back there in the early 2000 and left back for here for work in the coal mines to make a better living great video i played on some of those streets as a kid in those trailer parks by the Indian river with my friends
Well done,Mr J! Moved here from Los Angeles recently.I'm total Casper but had close friends in Watts,Compton, and South Central. So these are the local hoods? that's cute.😁
@@TIMJMEANSBUSINESS A pleasure,I like your work. Most of those streets look familiar, that helps you feel kinda settled in.I know a guy who's buried in that little cemetary near Race/Grant,off University
@@TIMJMEANSBUSINESS I knew a guy people called "Big Nate" who's buried there.Last time I placed flowers there,I was accosted by a hooker immediately afterward😆.I just handed her a 20 and said "good luck and don't take any shit from anyone." You might as well laugh.Big Nate would have.
Most definitely! It's a lot of safe area's in Melbourne. Melbourne crime rate isn't bad. It scores a B slightly lower than the us average. The rate of crime in the Melbourne area is 20.70 per 1,000 residents during a standard year.
I was surprised at how well kept some of these "hoods" were. I moved out to nearby Palm Bay in 2015 and this wasn't always the case but it seems like some of these areas apear to be improving somewhat
This doesn't look like a "hood" to me. I'm from South Jersey... Have you ever seen pics of a REAL HOOD? Like from Camden, NJ or Kensington in Philly? Like those just look like you're driving around the suburbs.... Maybe a low income type of suburbs, but still. Seriously I want to know-what makes this the hood? Cuz the people that live there are black? Or....I don't know? I still subscribed because this is fascinating.
I mean, I didn't see anyone selling dope on the corners, no homeless or hookers walking the street, no junkies nodding out or shooting up behind cars or in their mirrors in their necks, ..... It seemed like a quiet neighborhood with a family playing basketball together, yard work waste at the curb.... I'm not trying to be funny. I'm just really confused how you're calling this a HOOD
@@MegadoseTheOutsiderArtist I live one city away from Melbourne and it all comes out as the sun sets. That said this area has some of the most drug use just everyone goes to work still anyway or you see them begging at every intersection. I have been pulled over at night in couple areas the reason I was given is that I was white and didn't belong where I was driving. Most areas are kept up nicely because you get fined if your property goes to hell. It is not much of a hood growing up in the north east I find Florida is rather safe for the most part.
Black communities do not appear as "hood" to me. When I think of the term "hood," I envision areas with high crime rates, violence, and other negative elements. However, I acknowledge that there are neighborhoods that may seem suburban at first glance but still experience these issues. I agree with your perspective, and I can relate to your experience in Camden. In fact, there are cities in Florida that can be equally as challenging as Camden in terms of their socio-economic conditions. Thanks for subscribing and watching. Much appreciated.
@@TIMJMEANSBUSINESS yes, I agree, I do not think that hoods are just places where black people live that is why I asked because it just seemed like the only reason this was being called a hood is because there were some black people playing basketball. But I don't see it as a hood comparatively, it really seems like a very nice neighborhood. This did not look anywhere as scary as any place I've ever seen that they call a hood. I really do like your channel!
My trailer from 1971 in the park off John rodes Boulevard, made me smile wish I could get that mobile home back up here on Merritt Island sell my house and move back into it
The trailer parks have more disposable income because they are mostly age restricted retirement communities. Your assumption of blacks in the area not having as much opportunity is bizarre to me. If you have a college degree and you are a minority then you will be swatting away HR recruiters with a baseball bat how desperate they want to hire....
Melbourne fl sucks. The schools are horrible! Lord if you only knew what goes on that they keep hushed. So much freaking drugs too. Neighbors shooting eachother. Domestic violence is off the charts. I come from NY and Florida said hold my beer. If you're rich you can stay in a bubble. Otherwise it sucks.
I grew up in Crown Heights( middle income families) just behind Palm Bay High. The hood back in the late 70s to early 80s was a very different place then it is today. Most of the really bad areas like Spains bar on Brothers av. is all gone now but back in the day, well you didn't want to be down there to long and I was a white surfer kid but I had so many friends from that area that I was a regular. Believe it or not it's much safer to be there than back in the day but I wouldn't have traded my life growing up there for anything.
Same! I'm from Fort Lauderdale. When I arrived in this area at 18, I was a popular DJ, receiving immense love from everyone. I DJed at Spain's Bar, the owner at that time Miami D booked me for the gig. The guys in that community always showed me love. They still respect me to this day. I've never had any issues with anyone. Thank you for your feedback and for watching.
