I thank Tunde and Charlie for conducting this interview. Lt. Gen. Malu's contributions in the NAF can not be over emphatized. I emphatize with the Gen. for his ordeal for being a loyalist. It is one of the bundle of every one, who has chosen the path of loyalty and integrity. An, angel once showed me a vision; Everyone's, robe was stained, apart from a certain man. Those whose robe were stained, started rushing to him with their hands streghted towards him with the intention of touching him. Then, the angel said, "if you choose to be modest, nobule and chase, expect those who are dirty, to throw tantrums at you. All these are with the intention of soiling you up.But, the good news is that, after they have all gone round, they will come back to you because even the worst villian wants an honest and loyal couterie by himself". Kudos to all Soldiers and stewards, who displayed loyalty to their bosses to the latter. The only way to encourage such people, is to encourage their loyalty. So, that others can imbibe such virtues, in a clime where, it is believes to be old version.
Hmmm, I was breathless all along... You have done a great job here. I have researched and published videos on almost all the coups but the Diya coup... I think with this compelling account I will look back at the Diya coup. Thank you so much for this video.
I lived at Bariga, Lagos, very close to General Diya’s family house. His mother was still alive at the time. I vividly remembered this case because the entire area was thrown into mourning.
This is a reasonable and sensible account of actually what happened with regards to the fail coup of December 1997. However, I heard the testimony of almost all the actors that were involved in the coup saga at the oputa panel. And I want to humbly call your attention for the omission of some central actors that play along with the coup plotters on the instruction of Gen. Abacha in order to find the neaty gritty of the coup saga. This includes Late Gen Patrick aziza who was first contacted by Gen diya about the 1997 coup. Who then reported to the then COAS Gen bamaiyi who eventually reported the coup issue to the then CinC Gen Abacha. Gen Patrick was the No 1 witness the trial. Please
It says a lot about Gen Malu, that despite refusing to aid in the Coup against Buhari, thus proving not cometely loyal to IBB & Abacha. But when Abacha needed someone to bring peace to Liberia, he picked him. And like in all his previous postings, he brought an end to the decades of bloodshed in Liberia.
Tay. Gen. Victor Malu is also a legend in Liberia having led peace keeping troops there during some very critical times during the Liberian civil war. Great to know the strong man is still alive and well.
Great reminiscence from the esteemed late General Malu. It's great to have history in this context although wasnt his property destroyed in a military attack post retirement? Second question history poses is about collateral damage to innocent people during coup planning. Saying hello to a colleague, playing squash or having a drink with someone who is then implicated in coup could mean death to that person. Also soldiers / civilians who were given false stories of exercises that turned out to be coup attempts should be cleared. The case of Col Wya in 1976 comes to mind. All tribunal records should be made public and innocent executed / imprisoned persons be exonorated where applicable. Why keep secrets after 5 decades or more? Final note, an ex coursemate was an F/O on 737s in 1984 where he was corralled unknowingly to fly officers from Kaduna and Jos back to Lagos. This was part of the coup that toppled Shagari. If that coup had failed, my old buddy would not be around today . We really need to collate our history so to Tay...outstanding work!
Great feed back Olu ! Indeed the general's village was destroyed by soldiers in 2001, sad as it is, that is a story for another day. I agree with all your propositions
Special recognition of Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, one of the three General's sent for also showing loyalty and for keeping to his words by handling over power back to Civilian.
Here we have a truly professional soldier that once involved himself in a single act that could stain his uniform. A great loss to the Armed Forces. A great loss to Nigeria. RiP
General Malu was responsible for my father spending his final years with the use of only one eye. They were buddies and regulars at the 1 Div Officers mess Lawn Tennis club. Some how twice General Malu hit my father with a tennis ball on his left eye, the same eye! My father managed at the time but the effects caught on latter in life!
Gen .Victor Malu was one of the cool generals when Nigerian army had balls unlike most of those empty weak but very wicked and entitled ones from a particular group bullying everyone through blood thirstiness and sheer ignorance ,they bulldozed their way to power and recklessly destroyed our good country because they are just plain empty in the head .they only know how to borrow money to squander not how to be intellectually vibrant and hard working like general Malu and some other ones .Even till this day those lazy ones found a way to crawl back to destroy our country to the last but God is on His throne
Great narration here..am just curious that there is no mention of any influence or attempted influence from the Abacha govt..interestingly enough the convicts were released soon after Abacha died.
They weren't released because it was a phantom coup, nay. They were released by the Abdulsalami's government to please the Yoruba elders because you will realize that MKO Abiola whose election was annulled was a Yoruba man. Do you understand the politics? If you do not know that Abacha and Abiola were killed by a cabal. The story will never be told. As for Diya, he is a coward who could not bear his sin.
Nigeria is big, bro!.....Victor Malu is Tiv from Benue state, they have a very strong Liberian accent not Ghana accent. Although, there are other parts of Nigeria that's got Ghana, and Kenya accents respectively, a very strong one too.
Dis ex general I don't trust him. He supported d military for wiping out Odi when soldiers were killed but now cried when d army did less in biam his home town when they also killed soldiers. He is biased hence can't be trusted.
Victor Malu was a coward. I know him full well. He knew the 1995 coup was a phantom coup yet he was quiet. I knew him as GOC of 82 division. Very cowardly.
The problem in Nigeria today started when shagari Government was overthrown. And the man who overthrew shagari is running a government today marred by confusion and incompetence.

Malu was a great general. The legend lives on.
Wow 😲! This is true emblem of professionalism with eloquence and integrity, Yet covered with solemn humanity.

Proud of the service of the Late General Victor Malu to his motherland. He exhibits the true spirit and boldness of a Tiv man.

This is really good. Excellent narration and storyline. I have been following your videos since 'My Fellow Nigerians' started. Thanks Tay!!!!!
A very veritable narrative. Kudos 👏🏾 to all involved in this.
One, among the greatest military men Nigeria ever had.
Wish we can have more like this

One of the best patriotic General that Nigeria had ever had

Thanks. I send my warm greetings to Gen. Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babaginda, Gen. Sani Abacha and whom Malu gave this unflinching loyalty.

Tay, please correct at 7:21 February 12. You meant February 13th I presume or are you quoting directly from the late General's book?
Quoted as written
Another great insight into Nigeria military history. Great job!! 30:11 Feb 18, 1988 ? .. isn't it supposed to be 1998?
thanks for the observation, it was a slip of tongue
Nice
This is quite revealing.
Best history chanel👍👍👍
Great work. Please the soundtrack is eclipsing your voice and other conversations, making it hard to follow your narrative.

Why does he sound Liberian, Ghanaian?
Was there really a coup in 1998 ....Say the truth Malu....
Why did diya wept kneeling down for abacha?
Did this ex army officer lived in Ghana? I could see some Ghana accent.
Was also about to ask that*accent you mean *
Is Benue accent actually. The Tiv tribe of Benue State Nigeria.
