User error, not a product defect. Any piece of metal no matter it's size or construction can warp and change shape when subjected to that much thermal shock.
If you have a Model 1885 28" griddle, it will warp because the griddle top has a manufacturing/engineering defect that will not allow it to lock in place. The holes are actually about 1/2" too close together. If you drill out the back of the back holes so the front pins will lock into place, it will be a lot less likely to warp. You can easily see this by locking the front pins in place while keeping the back pins out of the holes.
I have a brand new camp chef ftg600. I have not cooked on it yet. I have just seasoned it and noticed that mine warped. I contacted camp chef and they suggested filling two large pots of water and placing them on the warped corners of the grill and turning the grill on medium. They said leave the temp on medium until just before the water begins to boil then turn the burners off but leave the pots on while the grill cools down. If after doing this the griddle top is still warped then I’m supposed to take a photo and send it to them and they will send me out a replacement flat top. I am waiting on the grill to cool down as I type this. So far though, the grill is back to flat…at least with the pots of water on the corners so that gives me hope. Update: the top goes back to being warped. GOOD NEWS THOUGH, Campchef sent me out a brand new top at zero charge to me!!!! I am very impressed with the response from them. I have not used the new top yet but will be even more careful in using it.
@@ez-airbrush I’ve used the new one without issues. Just remember to turn it on the lowest heat possible and allow it to come up to temperature slowly. I always turn mine on and leave all the burners on low for about 8-10 minutes before adjusting the flames. Truth be told, i usually cook on the low to medium/low setting.
One thing I learned as a kid, never run the hot pan under cold water because it will warp…lol but I learned my lessen on my flat top today (I just happened to turn the heat up and bent it straight with my hands before it got worse
You use too much water! Only squirt it on and use a rag or paper towels to clean the griddle plate. Then apply a light core of oil for storage. I always shut my heat off when I add water the griddle is plenty hot enough for cleaning. This is the second case of this I have heard of weird for sure but I think it is caused because the griddle plate is too hot and you are trying to cool it way to fast resulting in the warping.it shouldn’t take much water with a rag to clean the griddle top. Just a suggestion please don’t take offense. We are always learning from one another.:)
It’s definitely the water, you removed all the heat from the griddle really fast and the edges cool off the fastest. The four corners contracted, while the center remained thermally expanded; this caused each of the opposing corners to bend towards each other across all four corners. You only don’t notice that all 4 corners warped because the other corners attempted to bend against the griddle’s own ridges. That’s why it regained its shape after cooling back to a uniform temperature with the rest of the pan, the only way to permanently deform your griddle would be to strike it with something or if it somehow cracked
Mine did the same thing but I found out the little locks that hold it down in the slots for the top plate legs broke off so it no longer locks in place .. I’ll have to see if they will send me a new one
Good ol Philly Pro Steak . I think you should try a blacked whole steak next time on your warped flat iron . Louisiana style yo! You could create a time warp on your warping flat top. Ripping a hole in the space time continuum which would combine the two into a Blackened P hi 'll y Pro NY steak
I have a 22 inch Blackstone griddle and it has a crown in it Blackstone support says that it’s normal and it will go away after I’ve used it about 20 times we will see I’m hoping that’s true
It’s because you poured cold water on the extremely hot surface. You have to use water that is as hot as you can get it or only a little bit of room temp water. Used to much anyway
To be fair, It wasn’t ice water, it was just water. And Japanese teppanyaki grill chefs do that routinely to clean their grills, the steam works great to dislodge the gunk on the griddle.
Mine has a slight rock like yours did at the end, but it's been like that for as long as I can remember. I just added a few washers on one of the posts and it doesn't rock anymore. They do make third party replacements that are thicker and better if anyone ever needs to go that route: ruclips.net/video/1lONyc1FS58/видео.html
It was Luke warm. But yeah, I suspect it was definitely the rapid temperature change that caused the distortion. I've used it for several months now and it's not been an issue anymore.
Kris Kross I might write to blackstone and see what they say. But I haven’t had any big issues with it since. Dealing with rust and keeeping it properly seasoned has turned out to be the biggest challenge.
Kris Kross it is steel not cast iron. The user manual says to clean with water in 6 inch sections when the griddle is below 300 degrees to avoid warping.
2 things youre doing wrong here. Dont use a metal spatula to clean or cook on your griddle. Use a wooden one so you dont scratch it. When youre cleaning, dont pour a ton of water all over the griddle. Its cold rolled steel it will contract and warp. Instead use a damp cloth to clean the griddle. You can even clean it by using half an onion or half a lemon. Amateur mistake.
god hose look sooo good. Can you give my recent video a look, u just uploaded one about how i cook cheap new york strips, i want feedback for what i could do differently!
Thanks for the sub! Up to a whopping 4! ha, gotta start somewhere though. Your steak video looked good. Nice and simple. My focus (and hope) is to try to get one video out per week so it's consistent, and to focus on quality recipes that I honestly feel people will like if they try it. And then just hope that the old axiom "If you build it they will come" rings true :) I don't think it's as much about the video or the editing as much as it is about the content. Coming next I've got plans to do a chili dog recipe that's amazing, Some Argentinian Empanadas with home rendered Lard, and a Detroit style pizza.

wrong. it just needs to be designed correctly. leave it to the engineers.

Yup I can confirm this because mine doesn't fit in slots
Can you fixed a warp one or are they ruined ?

You never use water unless you cook with sugar based sauces etc. Other than that just scrap and wipe clean. Reoil and your good. STOP USING WATER.
Same thing happened to us and I'm scared to use the new one.

My Blackstone warped tonight while I was just cooking steak, not cleaning. This was maybe the fifth or six time that I cooked something on it.
Should have tried adding colder water. You would have made a nice Wok.

The cold water did that warping!
How so?
Shouldnt matter on cast iron
Not at all, water has nothing to do, my griddle did exactly the same and never used water.

Cooler water is the culprit. If you look under the griddle, the welds on the supports are cracked.

Omg these look amazing..I love philly steak and cheese...so yummy
How did you get the warp out of your griddle? Mine warped the first time I turned it on
Just bought a new griddle mine warped while I was cooking. They don’t make them like they used to.
Damn that sucks
Mine did too

I'm salivating at the thought ... Its ✔
Let it cool down before adding water. Only do it when it’s warm
Interesting vid. Yeah....less water would help that
Same thing happened to me but it went back to normal after it cooled down😰
It's because the thing was scorching hot and you pour cold water on top of it basics knowledge

How did you get the warp completely gone?
I bet you also pour hot water on frozen windshields. 😂
Does anyone know if Pit Boss has warping issues? I understand their flat tops are different.
Why do you think teppan yaki grills use 3/4 inch tops
Use hot water to clean.
DONT COUNT ON BLACKSTONE our 22" warped bad 1st week they said keep cooking on it 8 months later worse! Blackstone said oh well WONT REPLACE IT!!
Should have used a squirt bottle like one restaurants have for sauces it wouldn't have worped like that
These griddles are all junk
I’ve warped two griddles from camp chef. On medium heat
You sneeze on them and they warp.
It's my second top .. the first one was a gonner at first use. The bottom plates welds snapped.
