    So glad I found your video. I've had a Meister Stuck Mont Blanc pen since 1986; it is a fabulous pen. I haven't used it for a while and couldn't remember how to fill it. Your instructions were perfect. I had forgotten about the "window" which I found very useful. Best instructions ever! Thank you!

    I bought the MB 149 last year. And I absolutely love it. Perfect size for my large hands. And the understated, classic look. The cigar shape. That stunning looking smooth nib. Just the perfect pen for me.

    I bought mine over 20 years ago. Its my go-to fountain pen. I always prefer a broader nib. This is perfect for me. Beautifully smooth writing, consistently even distribution of ink, and makes writing a pleasure. If I don't have this, I prefer using a good quality 6B pencil. All other writing implements are secondary in my world. Got mine from the Mont Blanc store in Canary Wharf, London. I bought a leather case for it - basically a cigar tube. Love it.

    I've just started on fine pens. I've just bought the Skywalker Midnight pen at Costco. I purchased it with my Costco's members' card. It was $189.00 with tax included.
    Great review. Thanks for keeping us entertained with these cultural items.

    Dear Stef,
    Congratulations for starting the New Year 2017 series of videos with such an exquisite Fountain Pen!
    Looking from my modest view, I would say that some manufacturers of great prestige keep trying to preserve the old line of their well known pens, using modern materials and simplified ornaments.
    This stunning example you proposed in this video is a happy one, as the manufacturer kept the piston filling system, instead of changing to cartridge (or converter) with just an ornamental ring at the barrel, intended to remind the older real piston filler versions.
    In addition to my comments, I would say that there would be a tight relationship between the size of the pen and its surname of "Diplomat". In time, watching some movies about giving signatures to internationally important documents, I noticed that the diplomats of all countries use to write with impressing writing instruments, tending to prefer the big sized ones.
    However, looking at the crucial moments related to the Second World War, I also noticed, by movies and photos, that such important persons were a little more modest.
    Thinking that way, I am sure that the Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 you presented could easily be found in the hand of a State President of our days!
    Thank you for the video and for the wonderful inspiration of opening the New Year with it! I wish you a great success in your further activity related to Fountain Pens!
    Best Regards
    Anton-Mihai

      Yes im sure these large pens were often found in hands signing important documents around the world. It is a quality made pen however they can be overpriced for most pen enthusiasts. Thanks.

    Although the name doesn't do anything for me either, you have to admit that Montblanc makes among the finest writing instruments. And in my opinion, this nib is perhaps the most beautiful design I have ever seen on a pen; the size, the shape, the engraving.. everything is exquisite. Sometimes I find myself uncapping the pen just to behold this beauty of a nib.

    • @grandmiapens
      @grandmiapens  4 года назад

      The Montblanc pens are nice but they also make some hideous pens that are totally over priced. They do nothing for me as i feel there are nicer pens for less money. But each to their own. Thanks and stay safe.

    Steph, I could listen to you talk about pens all day. I was taking notes with my 149 watching this video. The only thing I am not happy with on my pen is the nib size. It is a medium that writes too broad for me. It is a lovely writer though. Keep up the great work.

    • @grandmiapens

      Thank you for watching (or listening). I personally prefer a broad nib, maybe you could send it to MB for a nib exchange ?

    Hello there Step!!
    Last week I bought three MB pens. One is 146 and 149 . My pen is more than 30 years and a lovely one. I t has no serial no means more older than yours and what we think it older. I now have two 146 and need to know if you know anyone who do the nib grinding . I might want to get one of my 146 in to a cursive grind.

    • @grandmiapens
      @grandmiapens  6 лет назад

      It depends were you live, i would advice you to ask the same question on one ot two of the fountain pen forums. Good luck with your pen.

    The feed on this one is plastic - you can see the injection mould marks. Other points of differentiation on the 149s are if they have a 14 or 18 kt nib. Earlier ones had the more springy 14 kt. There was also a period where the threads that take the piston-knob were plastic. Modern ones have brass threads like the one you have there.

      kuglepen64 Your description on the raised bottom ring and stamped 149 were on the early 50' models, and the earliest were celluloid. In the 60's they look very similar, with changes in the feed, 14 k nibs and plastic threads. Another hint at the age is the earlier pens had a barrel with 2 parts, the section would screw into the barrel. The post 65 pens had a single barrel/section

    The 149 is a nice sized pen. As is, it's a great pen to write with. For some reason though, I've preferred the Pelikan M1000 a little bit more. But yes, the Diplomat is an iconic pen that one has to have in their collection.

    • @grandmiapens

      Gordon the easiest answer is send it to a professional. Any MB pen is not the best pen to practice on. Good luck.

    Hello Steff, great review. The Diplomat 149 is a different pen than this in terms of nib. The body is quite the same. And the packaging isn't the actual one. It comes with a bottle of ink. Wish I can get this at some point.

    • @grandmiapens

    149 -- ehh. Understand you are paying more for the name then the pen. A better pen for slightly less is the Pelikan M1000. Duofolds might be good if Parker still makes them. Or Yard O'Lead ( if you can afford it! ) Me I'll stick to my war torn beat up 1989 Waterman Opera.

    • @grandmiapens
      @grandmiapens  6 лет назад
