Thanks so much for posting!!! I just used this video to help me get my Yanmar excavator up and running again. Not so sure I would have tried to disassemble and clean the pieces w/o this tutorial. I had a stuck plunger but everything else seemed ok. Once I freed the plunger it was back in operation.

As a life long diesel mechanic this was painful to watch. Nobody in our field works in filth like this guy, we don't even touch the surfaces of the delivery valve and pump element with CLEAN fingers.....only forceps or tweezers and assembly is done submerged in a diesel filled bowl.

If you can use an IR temperature gun to measure each exhaust outlet manifold at a high idle (1,000 rpm or so) you can roughly gauge how that cylinder is working. on my 3 cylinder Lister Petter I had 193° 104° 207° respectively the exhaust pipes coming out of each cylinder. You can guess what cylinder had a fueling issue.

That’s great! I’m glad that it worked for you. I know that this is a crude video but if it helps people then it was worth it.

Injection pumps require delicate handling if you are at the point where you have to "clean" the internal parts the damage is done and you need to install new parts. I think you will find a lot of your white smoke (white smoke is a sign of unburnt fuel of bad pump timing) will go away. Your injection fires at a pressure set in the injector its self (when it pops) a worn rusty dirty pump will not build the proper pressure or deliver the proper amount of fuel when it is required for good combustion.

    Thanx! Great video!
I managed to get two stuck plungers loose again… somehow an other one doesnt give fuel anymore now…
I cleaned those parts you showed pretty well, and reassembled a couple of times, still no significant pressure…. Do you have an idea
I’m stuck with a very smockey (black smoke) engine in Colombia with my 4jh2-te.. (and the engine doesn’t go down in revs anymore..)

I noticed by wiggling the plunger barrels, I turned some of the plungers ( looks like it can disconnect from the rack)
The are all in different positions (might explain the black smoke)
Now I dont know what the original position is when in lowest revs… do you know?

Maybe you could try spraying it with fuel injector cleaner and letting it soak. Then try blowing it out with compressed air. If you try turning the drive gear by hand it might come out as well.

Did you ever get it unstuck?
