  • Daredevil and flat earther Mad Mike Hughes launched himself in a self-made, steam-powered rocket for the third and final time on Saturday, February 22, 2020, in Barstow, California. He did not survive.
The journalist who filmed this video, Justin Chapman, presented his reporting on Mad Mike in a 4-part series of his show "Well Read," including a deep dive into Mike's various conspiracy theory beliefs and an extensive exclusive interview with Waldo Stakes, Mike's landlord and collaborator who helped him build the steam-powered rockets, the rockoon they planned to use to launch Mike up to the edge of space so he could see for himself “what shape this planet is,” and other death-defying vehicles in Apple Valley, California. The show is available at / justinchapman15 .

if he'd gone up in an airplane he just would have said the earth's curvature was faked. Holographs projected on the plane's windows, or something like that. Conspiracy theorists will believe that any proof that their theory is wrong is just another conspiracy.

Really sad for the onlookers. Thats the worst / hardest part about these instant death scenarios, brief distress for the victim, and a really hard life long affliction for all who witness it 💔

People are forgetting this was a human being. Dumb choice. But a person. And those watching must still see it at night. Praying for them.

The comment section is really sad. Mike was doing something he was obviously passionate about and lost his life. The disrespect displayed shows the lack of character most of you have. RIP Mike 😇

I wonder if he had it 'malfunction' on purpose to go out in style. On his successful flight, he had a much different parachute that he acquired from NASA, and a 2nd close landing chute. This parachute looked home made and the drogue chute deployed on launch.

I’m no engineer, brain scientist, or rocket surgeon, but was this guy really expecting steam power to get him to the edge of space (per the description)? I’m not wrong in thinking that would be impossible?

It's not the fall that gets you. It's the sudden stop at end!!
